I'm still at a loss to explain my battery woes. Occasionally it'll seems ok and then revert to background drain. Take this morning for example. Fully charged when I left for work at 7am. Not connected to company wifi or a bluetooth device or VPN. Background app refresh is completely turned off for all apps

After an hour in my pocket doing nothing

At 10 am it's already down to 81%. Before iOS 17 it would still be over 95% at this time

Battery health is at 86% and 3utools shows 593 charge times. Also my brother in law also has an iPhone 11 and he has also struggled with battery drain since iOS 17

I did a factory reset and these issues were fixed on a 12 pro

I think I did set up as new and manually copied over the photo albums and iMessages from iCloud and that was it.

Standby drain hasn’t been good since iOS 12, add updates to it and it severely worsens, but that looks outright unusable. 100% to 81% in a little under 3.5 hours with no usage and decent signal?

Hopefully you can resolve that...

What deepens the mystery is that the next day the same amount of battery drop lasted me 12 hours. Part of me suspects that it's not actually reading the battery lever properly. See here i'veno idea what it's showing at 6am-9am but it certainly was not plugged in. You can also see the point in the evening when the drain started again

Still, 100-81% in 12 hours is abhorrent as well. Funnily enough, I’ve solved similar standby issues in the past, on earlier iOS versions, by just hard restarting the device and recharging to 100%. I recall having some issues like that one back on iOS 8, with a once-in-a-while massive standby drop. After rebooting and recharging, it would be fine. Who knows why this happens...

The overnight drain you show in this screenshot is very paltry, too.

Updated to 17.3 on Tuesday evening and while its to early to tell my first impression is that its as good as 17.2.1 on my 13 pro which has been great with iOS 17.
But the final test is still how it will keep up with my commuting days where I use bluetooth/wifi and cellular connection a lot more and are not stationary.

Had a quick look today at "battery" under settings and realised that BT usage isn't listed. I guess it never has but considering how much I use it and what a battery hog it can be depending on the device and standard being used it would be nice if that along with other connectivity types could be listed.
Maybe a suggestion for future iOS releases and could potentially give a more honest picture on battery drain and what is draining the batteries.

A lot of processes are not shown such as photos curation, cell and wifi searching, and search optimization that use up battery after an update, maybe they should be shown.
Personally 17.3 is the best ever for battery life

Yes, you are right, there is lots that aren't showing.
Maybe it would be a good idea to have an "advanced" option where more services and how they affect battery performance are listed. That way it would be easier for users to get a better understanding on what is draining the battery.

Very pleased with the battery life on iOS 17.3, been on all the betas and the last was the best by far. 14PM.

No change for me here. 100% at 7am. 80% at 10am. Sometimes a forced restart will make it all good and will only lose less than 20% throughout a whole day at work with light usage. Then the drain returns.

Does anyone else have "system services" with the location icon always at the top of control center?

If you have it you should check what is draining your battery constantly. I turned off some of location services. Maybe that’s the problem you have. Especially as you said. Sometimes it is better sometimes worse

Same for me, literally no difference between iOS 17.0 - 17.3, it's still bad.
At this point I know it won't be fixed and the only way to get back the battery life I used to get pre-iOS17 is to buy a new 15 Pro Max.

Did you try restore and set up as new?

It is the only way. Sadly, every time you hit the update button you take a risk that cannot be brought back.

Getting the latest iPhone on its original iOS version has always been the only way to fix this, though, at least until that one is severely impacted, too. Rinse and repeat...

I was still on 17.3, charged to 80% limit. Downloaded and installed 17.4 DB, at 19% of battery life I was at 10h20min mark. 17.4 has been phenomenal so far, really liking it alot.

I’ve turned some off so will see how it goes. It would be more helpful it told which specific service, or if it showed those services in the battery usage screen

Did you mean 14 pro max? Battery life hasn’t changed on my 14 PM from iOS 16 to iOS 17. On my 15PM 17.3 is stellar…to use the superlative flawless would be an understatement.

I had my battery suddenly draining with 17.2/.1, with screen off time increasing with the same numbers as screen on time (but no listed background app, background refresh disabled). A restart fixes it until it happens again after a few days randomly. Hope 17.3 or 17.4 fixes this hideous behaviour

My 13 pro max performs poorly in 17.3 .
Also, during bedtime , nothing shows in the stats
