So Apple has made me wrong about two things today. First I said that I didn’t believe that they would release these today given that they did all the others. And then they made me wrong when I said that they had released everything. Zero Apple Watch updates ever since the others were released.😭
I had to toggle beta updates off then on to get beta 2 of watchOS 10 for my Apple Watch Ultra

Disagree, at least regarding Thursday. This was a short week at Apple due to the holiday on Monday. And the releases today were probably not remotely planned for but had to be pushed out. Apple is not going to want to lose a week in the cadence of beta releases due to this. I’m putting the odds on 1pm PT today / tomorrow at 80%+.
Except 16.5.1 has been spotted for a few weeks now. Even macrumors mentioned seeing it in their web stats. So don’t think this was an “oh s*** we gotta get this out now!” sorta release.

Welcome beta 2's. Yes there is enough BW. :p
😃 Of course there is. They release any update to the masses all the time. That’s how they do it. Those on betas make zero difference because they are either getting the public’s release OR beta (not both at same time) so not really adding anything to available bandwidth per sae. Also most users just allow the update to show up whenever it does (days later or overnight while sleeping) and lots are not even aware they are being updated until they see a message that it happened.

I think that was originally the case but that the security aspect took on the greater urgency. When outlets like MR and 9to5Mac urge installation of a particular update, you know Apple asked them to do so with a very good reason.

My working theory is that 17.0 b2 was due out yesterday, which was why there was at least one “oops” moment from the MR reporter who probably had his tweet timed for the end of the embargo and forgot to change it when Apple decided against releasing yesterday. Gurman was also very certain last night about a release today, leading me to think that they were all in the know.
