Perhaps he possessed a UK variant phone which could enable the AI capabilities in beta 1, and he simply didn't attempt it. If no other EU users are able to replicate his actions, this scenario seems plausible.
Turkey account based, location Romania. Still on the waiting list. US version of 15 pro max

Might have to reboot but so far FaceTime is a little choppy and keyboard lag still present

that's all i did since beta 1. today after the update it said "Joined waitlist" without doing anything. And then i got a notification that i got access.
I didn't have it like that when I updated, I changed it now to try after seeing your message. Well, I'm going back to the way I had it, because it still refuses to give me access. But the fact that it has stopped in EU countries is good news.

I had it configured to US at the time of update, but still not available (in The Netherlands).

Really happy for those live in EU unlocking the Apple Intelligence feature.
Meanwhile in China, tried changing region to US, language to English(US) and Siri to English(US) would not help.
This just again confirms the rumor (or it was a fact but was vaguely disclosed): "ANY EXCEPT CHINA SKU".
Gotta travel somewhere to get the 16 Pro this year, it really sucks for having a phone so UNIQUE.

Your version is the US one, and since you're already on the waitlist, you're halfway there. Congratulations on that.

However, I would like to confirm with EU variant users whether they have succeeded in unlocking AI after beta 2, if it was not possible in beta 1.

I'm in your 2nd case.. phone bought last year from Romania, used in Romania, no AI in beta 1.

You would think they would mention it in the release notes if it were available in the EU now. I was always of the opinion, though, that they should at least provide it in developer betas, so that developers can test and integrate the stuff into their apps, even it was not available to the public.

Just a couple of heads-up from the 18.0 beta 6 release notes (only the Mail issue is also in the 18.1b2 release notes, for some reason):

Photos

Known Issues

  • Upgrading from iOS 18.0 beta 5 to iOS 18.1 beta results in a Photos Library rebuild. (131845921)

Mail

Known Issues

  • Upgrading from iOS 18.0 beta 5 to iOS 18.1 beta might cause all Mail to redownload. (132930689)

IPSW is available now
Kinda worried about the IPSWs (which I have been using religiously).

Last 2 times trying to install 18.1 db1 on my M4 iPad Pro & my 15 Pro Max resulted in the devices getting stuck in DFU and I had to restore to 18.0 and then upgrade OTA..

"Hide Distracting Items" now works on my iPad. It was frustrating that it worked on my iPhone, which is too old for the AI stuff, but not on my iPad. Works now!

You'll get access in a few minutes probably. If it shows that you're on the waitlist, you'll get it.
Logged out of icloud account and logged back in and it worked. It now waits for wifi to download support for processing

Quick question for anyone on 18.1db2 and has an Apple Watch on watchOS 11: what focus mode icon is shown on the watch when you are in the new "Reduce Interruptions" focus? The Apple Intelligence squiggly circle shows on the iPhone and Mac, but I don't have my watch on the beta since you can't downgrade.

Someone on Reddit reports that iPhone Mirroring is now working in the EU, too. Anyone who can verify?
