maybe because in 18.1 there's the AI which has a lot of writing tools that are somehow correlated with the keyboard?
Possible, or all the AI stuff is indexing and heating the phone up? How long ago did you download and install the beta?
I don't think that's it. The impact on performance and battery would be too great. Not to mention that the writing tools all seem to run on-demand.
No offense but is the "What's New in the Beta" thread really the appropriate place for the posts saying "Switching all my stuff to the US shows Apple Intelligence!"?

So still may be downloading everything AI relating. I don’t know, keyboard lag has been a real issue with iOS 18 betas.
Is it just me or is the recent call tab now changed to where single tap starts a call vs the previous two taps introduced in 18.0 b1
yes, they changed it... we discussed few posts above.
anyway, i loved the change they added in previous betas, hope they'll come back to the previous implementation.
You didn't need 2 taps. You just needed to tap the phone logo in the list. It was much better that way, avoided accidental calls.

This beta release topic feels very wrong with all the tidbits being reported. Most of these changes should be posted in the B6 topic, as that’s also where Apple reports any changes for (since 18.1B2 is just 18.0B6 with AI enabled).

I agree with you, I actually hate the change because I accidentally tapped contacts all the time.
When I installed 18.1 beta 1, iPhone mirroring was working in Sweden. I wanted to try AI so, I changed the region and put me on waiting list. I got AI but iPhone mirroring stopped working. I did try to reset my iPhone back to 17.5 and installed beta again but mirroring is not working. In fact, mirroring was more useful for me than AI.
So I don't really see anything new besides the recent emoji's and that GenMoji pop up accidentally popping up for me. Maybe the writing tools have been tweaked?
Searching for places, items or people in the photos app doesn’t work nor do any suggestions pop up for me like they did instantly in B1 of iOS 18.1. Anyone else?
Tried force rebooting, no luck. Not using iCloud Photos.
EDIT// It’s working now and also shows “Indexing Your Library” when searching. Thanks for the replies to the original post 😊
