So to send texts in bold or italics or shake or what-not, this is only available from the stock iOS keyboard?

I use Microsoft SwiftKey and I do not intend on switching back and forth whenever I want to send a bold or italic word. Maybe once in a blue moon, but definitely not often.

That’s correct. That’s a feature of the iOS stock keyboard.

My 16 Pro Max from Sept has zero issues with the touch screen. Works perfectly. So, since we all have the same software, explain how it’s a software issue if there are phones that don’t have the issue…

It’s unlikely that any two iPhones, used by two different people, have been setup the same way, used the same way, and have the exact same settings.

Think about how many settings an individual app has, and multiply it by how many system wide settings there are. That’s a huge amount of variables. So many things can be causing some users to have issues, and it can take a long time to isolate and discover what the issue is.

People have been using screen protectors on iPhones for many many years. Don’t think that has anything to do with it

Oh absolutely, people have been using screen protectors for many years, I'm not denying that.

My point is that there could be a miscalibration issue with the screen that only appears if you use a screen protector. That's very well possible and also wouldn't be the first time. As Apple cannot test all possible screen protectors out there, it's likely they will take a while to notice and fix it.

That's why I was asking: to see what all people encountering this (or not encountering this) have in common.

Oh…the “regular” ChatGPT integration. I thought it was something on top of that.

It does nothing like you suggest in your original post (though it does augment the writing tools somewhat).

It is useful though: it provides answers where Siri used to say “there’s web content for that”. I turned off the “ask me if I want confirmation” toggle and theoretically any time Siri can’t provide an answer it will roll over to ChatGPT. That usually is the way it goes but not 100% of the time.

As I noted (probably in the beta 3 thread), you will get more info when querying on CarPlay. Before, you almost always got the “I can’t do that while you’re driving” response. Now you get actual answers to things like store hours and other questions.

I did not think of this at all. Wow, thank you. This is actually extremely helpful. Siri in the past was virtually useless in CarPlay unless you wanted her to play a song or get directions. Oh and read messages.

“Disappointing”. You know this is a beta right? And that in knowing so you freely installed it on your device?
Doesn't matter. Beta is not Alpha, and not even Developer Preview. Not the first or the 2nd time I'm using these releases. Heck was even running them on X towards the very end of support for that phone

So yeah, any kind of lag on any beta release of a flagship top of the line iPhone is disappointing.

No phone has ever run an LLM on device. I’d probably calibrate my expectations if I were you.

Except there are people who have this problem straight out of the box. I don't think it has anything to do with setup variables, at all.

This guy isnt using a screen protector, and the issue is clearly visible at 3:41.

There are essentially 0 scientific reasons why screen protectors from multiple manufacturers would suddenly cause this issue and only on the latest model of phone. Makes no sense.

Well, I definitely disagree with that, but yes, I do see the problem. That was the goal of my question: see if anyone is experiencing it also without screen protector. Let's hope for a fix then, that seems very annoying!

I’m pretty convinced it’s a hardware issue so I really doubt it’s ever going to be fixed in an update. My 16 Pro Max has 0 touch issues
Actually Apple as much as said it was software when they made (attempted) a fix in 18.0.1 to help it. Some explanation about touching near the camera button cuts it off momentarily.

"This update provides important bug fixes and security updates for your iPhone including: - Touch screen may be temporarily unresponsive in certain circumstances on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models"

I'm using an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and I only had this issue in exactly 1 app. Are people who are experiencing this using screen protectors?
No screen protector here. But still have it at times. Like you touch to acknowledge something (delete or whatever) and nothing happens. Keep touching and eventually it works. Its like it doesnt sense that you touched at all.

Two of my 15 Pro Max had faulty touch screens since launch that Apple refused to address, and no software update ever fixed them. I too thought my 15s were probably affected by a software bug for the longest time… after 12 months I realized it couldn’t be software
Wow what luck. So you somehow got two devices with same issue out millions of devices with no issues. Thats terrible. Sorry to hear that Apple refused to make it right for you.

That would be possible if Apple is using multiple manufacturers for one of the screen components, and one of the manufacturers has a misconfigured component that can be tweaked with a firmware update. But the first step would be Apple admitting there is actually an issue, and for things like this, that can be very difficult. 😅
They have actually and attempted a fix. Maybe another try is on the way soon.

Hmm thats a stretch. When they charge a lot of $$$$$$ for a phone with an understanding that THIS model phone is required to utilize this cool new feature set we now have. Then the "expectation" is that if you shell out those dollars for that model, then the phone will run that feature set without issues. Especially for the folks that dont even have those cool new features available yet.

So, have any if you turned on the ChatGPT extension, and if so, does it make word prediction and intuitiveness any better, when responding to iMessages and social media posts??
I would *love* to see that happen. I use ChatGPT quite often, and instead of typing I use the mic button in the app to have it listen to my query (the longer and more natural, the better) and it does an exemplary job figuring out what I've dictated and how to type it.

It would be nice if one could replace the Apple dictation system with ChatGPT's system. It's **so much** better than what Apple uses now.

Alas, it doesn't do this.. great idea tho =)

Anyone else seeing a million entries for iPhone and Apple Watch in the Health app with no data?
I haven’t used a watch for over 4 months now and even setup iPhone as new after that which seems to be tracking my steps since then. Today I see a whole lot of entries with no way to remove them.

Anyone know of a way to remove the null entries?

My health app shows the same and no way to delete them. I think it has to do with something iCloud released. Not a new issue with 18.2 l. Started on iOS 18.0 or 18.1. Was hoping 18.2 would fix it but nope.

I'd like to remove all those vacant Apple Watch entries also

Something that feels similar to me: all of the attachments associated with texts. I've used Apple mobile since the first one, and man.. it was be so nice to see ALL attachments to my texts (I have all of them, I do not erase any real threads over these years) and be able to batch save/remove them

At this point, I likely have thousands in iMessage.. and going through thread by thread would be a nightmare. So they just sit and take space!

PS - my iCloud backup of Messages is 30.2 GB, smaller than I expected actually
