Did you turn off Background App Refresh in the General pane?

Why the  would you turn off Find My? 😅

I'm very happy with my battery life (16 PM). Phone is in sleep focus when sleeping and not even losing 1%. You're using the Standby feature which keeps the screen on so what's the problem?

Mine uses the same and I think it's ok. On earlier betas of 18.1, i had 10-11% drain over night.

Definitely not a core service. 99.99% of the apps out there don’t need it to be enabled to function.
Other actual core services though you shouldn’t have to disable.
Exactly. There is no need to let third party (or even some apple's services) work background or use location.
Anyway. About battery. Let me tell you something. Charge your phones to 100%. And it is not about "use your phone because you've paid for it" "you bought premium phone and try to save on battery" etc. No. I see that when I charge iPhone to 100% it can last longer. And again. Not because of these 20% more. I think it is all about software-battery. Yesterday I had SOT 3h 30 minutes (iP 16 Pro) and I didn't even go down to 50%. I used 40% of battery. Mostly wifi yes but still. Same 3,5h with 80% limit would probably end with 30% (50% lost) or even below.
If you ask me about the proof...well that's my experience of 16 pro previous 15 pro and many many years with iPhone. Yes old models couldn't be limited to 80% but battery optimization could end in just 80% charge and I had same weird experiences with it.

No standby feature on. And as you, sleep focus on.

The thing is, my15PM had flat line’s with the same setting,Location, etc over Night.

Need to turn off things to look who drains the battery :/

Idle battery drain is bad and getting worse. Sleep focus was on battery saver mode is on using a Lock Screen with zero widgets. Full WiFi signal. The only thing that has a bad connection is 2 bars of cellular but that was never a problem in the past and I’ve tried it with cellular off overnight with zero positive impact on this battery drain. At this point I’m at my wit’s end. iPhone 14 Pro running 18.01.

Does anyone think that not charging overnight affects battery drain? I rarely charge overnight unless there's an update to download. I have the limit set to 95% because I need every bit of that battery to last most of the day.

I am going to try one last experiment. I have my MacBook Air plugged in and in standby mode at my desk when I'm not using it (I only restart it once a week). With the introduction of iPhone Mirroring in ios18 and MacOS 15, I've noticed that even when I don't have screen mirroring open, my Mac still pulls in notifications from my iPhone which indicates some level of maintained connection. I wonder if it is maintaining this connection to my phone even when the computer is in standby, and my phone is in sleep focus / battery saver mode. I have disabled iPhone Mirroring on my iPhone and will test tonight to see if this helps. If it doesn't, I will try fully shutting down my MacBook. Will update with results.

You’re a genius! I bet this is what I going on! I am gonna do the same. So you turned it off on the phone side not on the Mac side?

Now that I think about it, that feature from Sequoia (and iOS 18) forces the iPhone to be constantly communicating with the Mac… hopefully they will make it more efficient, because it is a feature I really want to use once I have my M4 Mac mini.

Correct, it appears the only way to turn it off is to remove the mac from your phone by going to Settings > General > AirPlay & Continuity > iPhone Mirroring then swipe your mac to delete it.

I did this and while there was some battery drain overnight (Around 10%) it was significantly less than before (20%) and Home Screen / Lockscreen no longer showed as the main culprit! It's a shame because I quite like the feature but it's not worth the impact on battery life and the hassle at this point. Hopefully they are aware of this and optimize it in future releases.

Still have that "Update Finishing in Background" under battery. Been there since I installed 18.0.1 a few days ago. Tried restarting the phone, nothing appears to be running in the background. Does anyone know how to get rid of this?

If you haven't already, leave it on the charger overnight to give it an opportunity to run all the background tasks and indexing it needs to.

I always have it on charge overnight. Hope it goes away soon.

Thank you! Yes, I do enjoy the feature as well, but it's not worth the battery life.

I was able to access my MacBook Pro and stop mirroring my phone, so it no longer appears in the settings. However, I'm not sure if that worked because I've still noticed idle battery drain, which seems almost the same as before. Maybe I need to remove it from the actual phone the way you did.

When I updated to 18.0 on release day, I never got the "Update finishing in background" message even though the Photos app was running like crazy in the background (at its peak, it was like ~50 hours background activity under Last 10 Days). That eventually stopped and I assumed my phone finished indexing.

I updated to 18.0.1 on release day as well and only a few days ago did I get the Update/background message. That lasted for a day and then it went away. Now I checked again this morning and the Update message is back. My battery doesn't seem to have any anomalies, abnormal drain, or apps running in the background for too long. So is my phone truly still indexing?

Some specs, I have a 15 Pro and charging habit is wired overnight. Rarely charge it during the day.

Yeah definitely try that. It could also just have been a partial solution for my particular case. Feels like there are just so many issues introduced with this release it’s hard to pin it to any specific cause.

I wholeheartedly agree with you! It's surprising that some of these issues made it past beta. I participated in beta testing, and the battery performance was much better before the release candidate of iOS 18. It feels like we are backtracking in our efforts to restore battery life.

After trying your trick on the phone, I can definitely see an improvement. I don't use mirroring often, so I'm not too upset. However, I would prefer not to have to turn it off to improve battery life.
