I’m not sure where the miscommunication is happening but putting your phone in recovery mode and hitting “update” won’t cause you to lose any data. All your data is completely intact. Doing a backup is just a precaution.

Lookup how to put your phone in recovery mode and hit “update” not restore and your Mac downloads the file and reinstalls the iOS.
Again, doing update you won’t be losing any data at all.

What is the difference between updating via Recovery Mode compared to downloading the IPSW and hitting Update

Do you have AoD enabled? Background refresh? 4G, 5G?
I have the same phone, same battery life, but I'm getting half the battery performance as you.
I'm interested in knowing more.
AoD disabled, as well as background app refresh and 5g. The only app running in the background is Spotify.

iPhone 16 Pro max user here : I finally FIXED my drain. That was crazy.

I did a full restore/reset of my phone, reinstalled apps one by one to see what caused the drain.

Surprise, it was my Apple Watch. (I didnt repair it atm)

Before I looked at my %, I lost 1 every 5-6 minutes, now I stay at the same percentage for 30-40 minutes, I spent 1 day and a half without charging my phone (incredible)

I‘m highly interested in your results! Please keep us updated.
Yes, please, that would be very interesting.

I’m still in the “settling” phase, but so far it’s a complete disaster:

Maybe the drain is the Bluetooth that always is on
What I could imagine is that there is a sync issue which drains the battery, but I would expect something like that would drain the watch too. So, seems unlikely.

I'm still indexing, but to compare, I no longer have any “idle drain” at all.

(I have an old screen from before, I'll put it up for comparison for the idle drain. And as soon as my indexing is finished, I test again, limiting the battery charge to 80%, but at least I know I no longer have idle drain. And then I'll test by repairing my Apple Watch)

By the way, before I deleted everything, I'd tried deactivating background refresh and AoD, and nothing changed. Now I've reactivated everything, and I don't really have a drain (especially since it's still being indexed).

The only thing is that i loose 5% every night, even if i'm at 100% or 80% : drain by findmy (even if i disable bluetooth)

Thanks.

I just did the same, wiped the phone and restored through my Mac. Set it up as a new phone, and the whole process took me about 2 hours (Apple Watch, Apps, bank cards, etc.).

However this time I'm trying a new approach. I'm going to leave the default config as is. Not going to start disabling or changing options. Fresh install and default settings for everything as opposed to what I usually do.

So right now I'm making sure everything settles and syncs, notes, fitness (there's lots here), health, iMessage, mail, calendar, so on and so forth. Except for photos, I don't use icloud for that.

Let's see where this takes me.

I'll post back with more info.

Edit: Here's the battery info according to Coconut Battery:

There were similar reports on iOS 17: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-17-battery-life-health.2391634/post-33177428

Hey iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max users! How’s the battery life on the 18.3 public release? I’ve had my 15 Pro for three weeks now, and it’s been fantastic! I’ve only had to charge it up twice a day, and it’s still at 100% capacity. My XR, on the other hand, ended up needing to be charged 3-5 times a day, and it only had 84% battery health.

Also, how many of you use a MagSafe power bank? I have one, but I only had to use it once in a while.

… is tapatalk iOS 18.3 public release still acting up? I thought iPhone users on the betas were getting this spam issue.

14PM with iOS 18.2 (restore as new device) since day it was unlocked. According to Coconut the battery health is 92.8%. I don't plan on upgrading to the next version unless it's the last iOS 18 available (maybe 18.5 or similar) before jumping to 19. I exclusively use it from 80-20% battery and usually get 4 or 5 hours of screen on time. I mostly use Safari, Brave (YT), and X. Mail app notifications still don't work and other little things that irritate me but overall I'm very happy with the performance considering how bad the batteries were on the 14 Pro/PM.
EDIT: 296 cycle count in 17 months.

Definitely worse than 18.2 for me on my 15 PM…
Hope for 18.4 in April

How frequently do you need to charge your iPhone 15 Pro Max, and do you use a MagSafe charger of any kind?
I charge it once a day and after that leave it on charger overnight - while pausing charging to 90%.

I don’t use MagSafe at all. Only wired charging.

Oh, I must admit that I sometimes charge my iPhone to 95% instead of the recommended 90%. However, I do charge it to full battery once or twice and overnight. Occasionally, I use a MagSafe power bank while I’m on the go, or I rely on the wireless charger in my car.

I usually use my USB C charger when I have a MagSafe wallet attached to my iPhone or when I’m home.

Well I had enough with the iPhone 14 Pro. Traded it in yesterday for the 16 PM and I'm through with the headaches.

I've had the 16PM for 24 hours, this is my first charge (while it's still settling), and using it the same as my iPhone 14Pro, it has gotten me through from 06.34 (when I took it off the charger this morning), up until I got back home from work, at 18.33 using only 20% of battery.

The commutes are bad since the signal is weak and poor, but despite everything this device handled it like a champ!

With the 14 Pro I would be at about 35% right now.

And since this is only the first day, it's only going to get better.

I need peace of mind, not a constant headache, and that is what the 14pro turned into.
