Public beta is considered to be “safer” early in a beta cycle, as first Apple release the developer beta, wait for a few days, then release the public beta, if nothing is broken. Later in the beta cycle this gap between developer and public beta gets shorter, so for the latest iOS 18.0 DB7 = PB5 the gap was just 3 hours.

In your case, however, since you are running iOS 18.1 beta and there is no public beta for it as yet, it would make more sense to stay on the developer beta track, as otherwise you would just delay your next update.
Thanks again both of you @one mdone and @Stiille . I'll just embrace ios 18.1 and start here. The only thing I see as a problem, I'd when I'm upgrading to iPhone 16 Pro in September. That will be delivered with ios 18 I guess...

Cam’t set alarms on homepods anymore from home app on iOS18 beta. I need to update homepods to ios18 or set from other device with iOS 17.

It is not that difficult, actually.

Once you get your iPhone 16, you will first need to install the latest iOS 18.1 beta on it and then transfer the stuff from your old iPhone, running the same iOS 18.1 beta over.

Great. And I guess I then have to unsubscribe from the developer beta, and just wait until Apple release the official iOS 18.1.

The best would be to continue on the 18.1 beta until it is released to the public in October and then come off the beta, if you like.

If you unsubscribe from the beta before, you might miss several updates in between your latest beta installed and the public release.

At this point I would just stay the course with 18.1 betas all the way until it is generally available. If you are nervous, just wait a few days after a new developer beta comes out before you install it.

I have been running 18.1 from the day it came out, and I have to say that it is really quite stable. With the exception of games, I am a heavy iPhone user. While there are some minor UI bugs and such, and battery drain is a little higher than I would like, I have yet to run into any bugs so serious (Apple or 3rd party apps) that they prevented me from using iPhone to do whatever I was trying to do at that moment.

Thanks. I'll wait. I haven't had any problems either, but thought this was the reason for the battery drain. Although, it started before in installed the beta, and I suspect that the battery took a beating after two weeks in Greece and crazy heat this summer.

Screentime "Content & Privacy Restrictions" don't seem to be working. I have "Passcode & Face ID", "Accounts" and "Cellular Data" set to "Don't allow" under a password, but I am still able to change them.
Just asking - it’s not your first beta? Asking because I had strange bug after updating to Beta1 (as in screenshot) where it erased screen time password and I see 10+ had the same but somehow other settings were set up.
To have it working had to set up password again so provably in your case it might be requiring setting again. Anyways worth reporting for sure, weird issue…

Btw with this Beta they fixed missing Offloaded apps icons (apps removed temporary by OS as they were not used for some time). Yay

Yeah they are the same - which charge limit you set for your 15PM and how much you use it every day (SOT)?

I was using the 80% limit but my battery health dropped to 99% after 50 cycles lol. Now I’m using 80-90% limit most of the time. I don’t let it drain to low numbers and cycle the battery, so it’s hard to give SOT for a full day/charge as I give it little top ups through the day.

FWIW here’s how today looks.

Team 85% charging limit with iOS18 on the 15 Pro.
Team 80% charging limit with the 15 Pro Max since launch day 🤝

Beta 7 doesn't "feel" much different than beta 6. But that's to be expected as we get this late in the development cycle. Battery life seems a tiny bit better. iOS 18 is feeling a bit more polished now with most of the graphical glitches gone (that I've noticed). I'd be surprised if we didn't get beta 8 next week though. 3 weeks seems like a long time to wait until RC but it's possible.

I usually download the betas on my daily drivers. In the last years. This year I wasn’t sure and I still haven’t tried the betas. What would you say? Can I use it on the 13 Pro Max or should I still wait?
Same as you, I use to download all the betas but last couple years I haven’t until late in the game or RC, I jumped on Beta 7 as my first one this year on my 13 Pro Max as soon as it dropped yesterday, perfect so far, delightfully so. Even battery life which I expected to take a hit seemingly is just as good as before.

Go ahead and enjoy it!

I boarded on beta 6 and it's running well on my 15 Pro. The only bug I ran into was that Control Panel would reset to default after every reboot. This is fixed in beta 7.

Battery-wise, it does drain more quickly the first couple days after updating but once settled, battery is similar to 17.6.1. There's a notification in the battery page that says Update Finishing in the Background, which I believe is new to iOS 18. In beta 6, it took 2 full days to finish. Hopefully the same on beta 7 - we'll see tomorrow morning.

I'm happy to have waited until last week to try it out and have no regrets.

Help, please. I don't know which way to look. For several beta versions now, I've seen such a problem that when Siri announces notifications, the music stops. Something is already starting to annoy it a little, but I don't know where to dig

Y’know I’ve not used any limits and I purchased my 15 PM at launch.

Been using it every day and it’s still at 100% health.

I charge both on cable and MagSafe at times. When the charge gets to 100% I stop charging.

I think sometimes you get a good battery and sometimes you get a bad one - I’ve had that experience with different iPhones.

I don’t think you need to sweat too much about how you charge.

100% true
There are so many factors involved here. Some batteries are simply more robust and some coming with a slightly higher capacity than others.
Battery health are measured more often the more you update the phone (especially big updates and during beta periods).
I wrote it before - I had a pretty worse experience with my Xs years ago and after that I stopped checking this value. Haven’t checked it once on the 13 Pro. The first time I did was when inward ready to put the phone on eBay for selling it. Same goes for my 15 pro that’s currently in use, I would be curious but I simply don’t check this stats.

Yes, the battery “lottery” is a factor, but it also depends on what we do with our gear once we stop using it. If you are on Apple’s own or carrier renewal programme, changing your iPhone every 1-2 years, then yes, no need to worry, as any battery will be fine for two years no matter how you use it. However, if you plan to pass your gear on to your friend or family member, it still makes sense to prolong the battery life for as long as possible.

My iPhone 11 is two months away from its 5th birthday.

Most nights, I plug the phone into the 5W charger and turn it off until morning. So there's no optimise charging stuff working.

My battery health states "service" and 77% capacity. However, it still lasts the day.

So I've learnt just not to care about the battery and if in future (with a new phone) the battery stops lasting a day before I want to upgrade, then I'll just get the battery replaced. Sure, that costs money, but if it lasts 4-5 years then I'm OK with that.

And to keep on topic ... phone's running well on this latest beta. I think having a "simple" phone without AOD, without AI capabilities, without even 5G etc. is why I'm pretty much bug-free.

I think in such case the ~70 $/€ are totally worth it to get the battery replaced. Still a nice phone with the soft-rounded sides.
Edit: Ok seems to be 99-109€ currently in Germany for these models. Damn Apple.
