This has happened exactly zero times to me, or anyone I've known since cell phones came about. I'm not worried about it. If you are worried about it, by all means use these features though. That is more valid than just straight up being shady and hiding things from your family/friends.

I never understand the 'its never happened to me so not worth worrying about' type of perspective. I've needed my seatbelt exactly zero times since I started driving. But I think I'll continue using seatbelts.

Not perfectly. The "guided access" only deactivates some areas of the screen, so all you need to do is to swipe the app up, rotate the screen or pretty much anything that even a 5-ears old manages to do in two seconds 😀
Oh, yeah, so it does. I haven't used it since before we had all the swipe gestures and we had to use the home button to exit an app. Back then it worked fine. How silly that they didn't update it.

Your anecdotal opinion does not help those who it has happened to. If you believe it’s to hide stuff on your phone from others who may have your phone in their hands that’s certainly a valid opinion but clearly will help those who may have their unlocked phone taken by others.
It wasn't my opinion, what I stated was fact.

You are oddly obsessed with this subject. If you don't want to hide apps on your phone then good news, that's already the default option. If you do want to hide something or make it inaccessible because you want to hand your phone to others then good news, this will soon be an option. Your ability to understand why others might want this feature is completely irrelevant to those who do want it and believe they have a good use case. Honestly, Your many many comments attacking this feature make it look like you're angry because you're worried about who might use this to hide things from you. If you're some overbearing control freak then I can see how this might be of concern for you. Otherwise its surprising how many comments you've made on this almost throw away feature that you are under no obligation to use.
Yet, you've written a far longer post regarding this topic than I have. Well played. Also, I have a wonderful relationship with my wife. We don't need to hide things from one another. It is the folks who are getting defensive over my posts who clearly have some soul searching to do. The anger isn't on my side at all. I have a smile on my face when responding to all of you on the defense. It is quite entertaining and I thank you all for that.

I've never understood people who live in fear or hide things from their family/friends either.

…The anger isn't on my side at all…

One of your first comments here:

“I find it completely ridiculous that people have to lock and/or hide apps from other people…”

“…I think that is pathetic…”

“…maybe your kid/s shouldn't be in your phone in the first place…”

“…Get them their own digital babysitter to play with…”

You’re either trolling or doing some revisionist commenting here… 😉 You start throwing out loaded comments like that, I’m not sure what you expect in return.

I mentioned this in a previous comment, but how about just the basic idea of slowing someone down from seeing an app you want to be a little more secure? Like my work email? My client access app, etc? It’s not a perfect vault, but there are plenty of scenarios outside of hiding from family that make this a beneficial feature. 🤷‍♂️

That isn't me being angry. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Yeah. I’m sure you leave your doors unlocked 24x7, drive without seatbelts and jump from a plane without a parachute. Because you’re fearless. /s
Are you alright this morning? I'm not sure why you feel the need to respond to my posts with sarcasm, especially so early in the day.

It’s an anecdotal opinion regarding the use case of why someone would want to use this feature. Period.
Again, it wasn't my opinion, it was a fact. I'm not sure why this is so difficult for you to understand. What you mentioned has never happened to me. Plain and simple. Trying to spin it any other way is nonsensical.

Anyway, I'm done with this thread. If you are on the defense or are up in arms about my posts, I would suggest you look deep within and figure out why you are so bothered by what I've said. I'm just one person. What I post shouldn't hold this much sway in your life, seriously. I appreciate the lively back and forth, but at this point it is getting exhausting.

Geez... I do not understand the discussion here.
One group of people sees that this is a feature for them their use cases and then there is a another group who go "BuT iTS NOT uSEFull To mEEE!!!"

Newsflash folks: The world does not revolve around you.
You are free to NOT use a feature if you do not see it working for you. I do not use the health app, but there are people who do. I don't use any social media app but people do. etc. etc. Just leave it alone. It does not cost you money.

I can see this feature taking the same fate of the CSAM feature and being pulled…

Why you being so weird about this?
This person is likely a 14 year old who is just experiencing the world as a 'grown up' and has the same hot takes we all did when finding out about real world issues.

"I don't do this, can't imagine any scenario where I would do this, therefore no one else should do this"

I'm hoping to be able to use this to hide my bank apps in case my phone gets stolen. I know security by obscurity isn't the best, but I'll take everything available.

I would agree with this except for the Mack the Knife references. No 14 year old would even know to Google that! ;)

Unfortunately trolls can exist at any age.

That section is there even if no apps are hidden which makes it stick out less. But as of right now the Settings app can’t be locked and after doing a Reset Home Screen Layout all the hidden apps reappear on the Home Screen despite still being in the Hidden section. I sent Apple a bug report for that. As for looking at the app download history hidden apps still have an Open next to them in the App Store but the App Store can be locked.

im surprised at that, surely thats a bug too, or its ill thought out. there's always been the ability to hide the fact that an app has been purchased/downloaded so that when you dont have it downloaded it shows GET, so hiding it should do the same (id have thought).

"Just don't search for information" wasn't necessarily the point I was trying to make, but rather that creating a record on your phone and then protecting this information on your device is likely the wrong way to go about this.

Rather, you would want your queries just not to be logged server-side and no search history saved on your device.

It's a sad reality that people seeking medical treatment have to consider their opsec like drug smugglers, but it's the world we live in apparently.
Ah, I see. A private browsing mode of sorts for Maps. That could work
