IF RCS and actually making siri not suck are the features to make it the "biggest" update in history, that is pretty weak. Not to mention can't wait for all the bugs since IOS17 was supposed to be a bug fixer/squasher update and the bugs are still through the roof.

One rumor I heard was that it will have a form of fraud or malicious trolling finder, as I understood it. Tell you if this person you are texting with is doing some fishy activity.

I cannot wait for Siri to be named CEO of Apple.
Why stop at Apple. President of the US? An AI Executive for the AI Age!

Google Assistant as VP, Alexa as Secretary of State, Cortana at Defence. Bixby as...well, let's not be ridiculous...

Doesn’t sound like much of an upgrade to me if those are the headlining features. How about fixing the keyboard first… when I try to edit my comment here and I tap in between words, half the time it inserts the text cursor and the other half it selects an entire word. So frustrating.
This is the most annoying “update” in iOS 17 by far. I don’t see why they added this. Does anyone actually use this on purpose? Like why would you want to change an autocorrected word back to the gibberish you typed? How often would that be preferred, over moving your cursor to add a word or something? It’s so dumb and I can’t stand it.

Even the phone dial app is super lacking, the way to edit text is super no-friendly (compared to Android), so, “smart features” available for the messaging app used mostly in USA is to useless for me. Definelty my last iPhone, I will keep my iPad and IMac off course, but iPhones are super deficient in soooo many aspects now that is Joke (hardware and SW).
Heck, even the way to answer calls is rampantly unfriendly. You literally need to read instructions to figure out how to decline a call in the most common case when the phone is locked, and even after reading them it's hard to remember since there are no visual indicators and nothing intuitive about the action. And don't even get me started about alarm and timer option reversal. They could really use a UX engineer going through the system and giving them a list of basic suggestions.

Too bad. I was hoping iOS 18 would be a bug-fixing update. iOS 17 (and especially WatchOS whichever-version-we-are-on-now) has been buggy as hell for me.

Meh on both. Could care less about the texting experience of green bubbles and I very rarely use siri.

Edit: A bit more context... none of my green bubble friends have ever complained about their texting experience or requested I use another service. Also, I don't use siri much because I don't leave it open, as in listening all the time, so by the time I grab my phone or hit the watch I could just do, in apps, what I wanted siri to do which is mostly homekit stuff with lights anyway. Siri could be the greatest assistant ever but I don't see myself ever leaving it listening all the time for its wake-up command.
Maybe you could if it, well, worked.

What Rabbit OS is doing is clearly the future.

Apple need to integrate LAM's with LLM's to create a seamless experience across their different OS's. One should still have full manual control like we do now in iOS17, and the full hands free experience from LAM and LLM -

This would be the closest we get to an AI actually providing a level of usefulness, kind of like what Jarvis is to Tony Stark.

I really don't know how adding some stickers to an OS can be some kind of news in a .x software update as iOS 17.4, and even some YouTubers dedicate several minutes in each and every reviews on the betas. After 6 years on Apple ecosystem, this is becoming hopeless (including a dumber Siri), but I am still resisting to go back on Android.

RCS will be green bubbles apparently. I was hoping for a different colour like purple but I wonder if that would be very hard to do.

How will iOS 18 confirm if the recipient supports RCS or not?

I’ll believe when I see it
No big deal! Unless you're an "iPhone chaser" most of the improvements, etc. won't apply on your iPhone because you (and I) choose to keep your phone for several years and only replace it when it needs replacing. OR iOS 18 won't "fit" on your iPhone because of its age....

Sad but true.

please for the love of god take the camera shortcut off the lockscreen / or at very least let us disable it without having to root the phone.
how much time do you spend staring at your lockscreen, that a little button in the bottom right corner bothers you so much? This is such a silly take, i am just on the lockscreen to unlock my phone and don't even notice the camera button there, until I need to use it.

Biggest software update, yet it'll look the same as every iOS has since iOS 7. They have not changed the look of iOS since iOS7. Research it, you'll see. I bet the iPhone 16 looks like every iPhone since iPhone 10, also. Apple has been selling us the same product for 10 years.

I'm hoping for smart Siri with HomePods. Currently they can't even announce recurring reminders or announce windows still open at home (sensor still open after e.g. 30 minutes). I expected a better Alexa when switching to HomePods and got a lot less.
The Home app should implement all Shortcuts app features with automations. Currently there is so much missing for a "smart" home.
Next sharing Wifi over NFC-Tags still not implemented, a feature Android can do since years.

As long as they make the screen dimmer, the battery life shorter, and reduce the usability through continued UI "refinement" I'm all in! Most importantly they should continue to obfuscate what is and is not a tap-able UI element, leaving me to randomly touch slightly dark greyish elements on a slightly lighter greyish background! It's that kind of attention to detail that really makes my day! I love everything Apple does! Just give me more Apple!

until they allow us to arrange our icons without being stuck in a grid...
There are things I hate about arranging icons on iOS, but this is not one. I do not need the freedom to make my homescreen as fugly as some people's Android homescreens... I don't share the desire to customize everything freely. Frankly, I have yet to experience any "normal user" (as in: Not professional UX designer) who actually make something prettier when you give them free reign. Heck, even the ability to select a background image on their iPhone, which allows you to easily see the icons in aforementioned grid, is lost on some people. Add to that the odd-shaped icons on Android, and sometimes what you get is extremely messy. I have friends whose Android home screen is literally unreadable. I'm sure it works for them because they created it so they know where things are, kind of like how the owner of the pawn shop knows exactly in which pile of crap that silver soup spoon was. But I always cringe over their complete ignorance on basic aesthetics. Sorry for the strawman.

After a long time working with computers and smartphones, this title:

iOS 18 Potentially 'Biggest' Software Update in iPhone's History

to me translates as:

iOS 18 Potentially 'the most Bloatware ever' Software Update in iPhone's History

and of course:

iOS 18 Potentially 'consumes the most internal storage' Software Update in iPhone's History

but let’s not forget:

iOS 18 Potentially 'devours the most iPhone resources' Software Update in iPhone's History

I’m not bitter.

I WISH THEY WOULD COME OUT WITH A MAJOR UPDATE TO MACOS.

THE SAME INTERFACE SINCE YOSEMITE IS GETTING VERY OLD TIRED AND BORING

MAYBE TOUCH SCREEN MACS WILL BRING A FRESH NEW INTERFACE.

Sounds promising. And I mean, it’s not as if the iPhone has changed since 2017.
And it’s not going to change in the future.

They must do something to keep fanboys entertained and convinced to get again spend to much on a product that is the same as the one’s before.

We’ll see what they come up with this time.
