So in other words... stay far away from iOS 18 for a long time.

Sounds like they're doing another major re-design and it will have lots of issues.

Nooooo I use this shortcut all the time!
Me too

Personally, I think it's so much more efficient to be able to tap my screen, press and hold that camera button and then be able to take a picture/record video just like that instead of having to unlock my phone first

I say at least give the user a choice as to whether they want it or not, instead of getting rid of it entirely

Biggest update ever:
- a new animation in music app
- smarter Siri
- AI, AI, AI

… we’re very proud of iOS 18. It’s magical, it’s the best iOS we’ve ever made.
Thanks for your attention.
Haha, I can't wait to see the video that someone makes of WWDC but all the times AI is mentioned (just like years ago with the introduction of 5G)

the flashlight is more annoying than the camera shortcut, it's so easy to activate it just by holding the phone
Yup, now that I hear you on

So much so that some I know with iPhones accidentally activate their flashlight without knowing it and I have to point out to them that they accidentally turned it on when I see a light from their pocket

Both Apple and Google messed up by not pushing an open messaging standard like RCS much sooner. They’ve allowed WhatsApp (and WeChat, Line, etc) to dominate messaging in much of the world.

Even with RCS it may be a slow hard grind to claw back eyeballs from dominant messaging apps in many countries.
Bullseye

Even though RCS will fix the gripe that plagues iPhone-Android individual or group messages in lower quality images/video and reactions sending a whole message about said reaction, I think it's too late to turn back the clock in places where messaging apps (WhatsApp in Europe, WeChat in China, etc) where they've become all too commonplace for them

I think iOS 18.0 could be FAR bigger than anyone anticipates. I see the following:

1. Seamless integration of the ability to sideload apps.
2. GSMA standard RCS text message support.
3. Seamless integration of multiple app stores, all under the App Store app.
4. Open access to the NFC functionality.
5. Ability to choose which web layout engine to use (Apple Webkit, Google Blink or Mozilla Gecko) universally.
6. New Headphones app not only for Apple and Beats wireless headphones, but also the ability to load controls for third-party wireless headphones from Sony, Bose, Sennheiser, and so on.
7. Redone Notifications center with configurable controls.

All of these changes will apply worldwide, not just in the EU.

I really wish they would take a "snow leopard" cycle for both iOS and MacOS to streamline, fix bugs, reduce size, etc.

Why do we need a "breakthrough upgrade" every year?

Yes, but will it fix, after 16 years, the iPhone's most ignorant defect? AKA its lack of audible notifications of missed calls?

It’s all about software development marketing beginning at WWDC annually. With all the EU changes and possibly adding AI and RCS messaging Apple can’t just do it once every two years and foget about it. Windows 12 is also expected late 2024 so not the year you don’t have things comparable.

I’m sure they’ll make a big deal about new emojis. Ugh.

But the RCS support - which thankfully Apple was forced to adopt because of the EU (about time) - is huge and that’s why I’m switching to Android when my S24 Ultra gets delivered tomorrow. Until Apple knows how to utilize the bigger display on the Pro Max phones (Apple Pencil support, split screen multitasking, etc.), I’m finished with Apple.

bug fixes not included (jk)

really though: more useless features forced down our throats with no way to disable them

Fun fact, you can attach multiple quotes to one post :p

This happened to me so many times!

Because they need to sell and they need to attract new customers too, including those looking to switch from Android.

The issue is these apps don't really give much confidence. I would always choose iMessage and FaceTime for my communication than WhatsApp, for example. Especially considering the latter is owned by Meta.

This what I meant in my previous post. What a pity:

Apple today seeded the first beta of an upcoming watchOS 10.4 update to developers for testing purposes, with the beta coming a week after the release of watchOS 10.3.

Apple Watch Faces watchOS 10 Feature Blue

To install the ‌watchOS 10.4‌ update, developers need to open the Apple Watch app, go to the Software Update section under "General" in Settings, and toggle on the watchOS 10 Developer Beta. An Apple ID linked to a developer account is required.

Once beta updates have been activated, watchOS 10.4 can be downloaded under the same Software Update section. To install software, an Apple Watch needs to have 50 percent battery life and it must be placed on an Apple Watch charger.

watchOS 10.4 includes new emoji characters such as a lime, an edible brown mushroom, a phoenix, a broken chain, shaking head vertically (as in a "yes" nod), and shaking head horizontally (a "no" head shake).

I personally don't ever see any of that happening in my lifetime but I agree with all of those points.

I am sure some are likely to guess that all of this will make for the biggest iOS download yet at WWDC 2024. So the biggest software update affords all the rumor mill an out in case its lacking in features they desire. :D

Exactly

For messaging with family and most friends, I just use iMessage/Messages, but then for some things like bigger groups I'm a part of, those will use GroupMe or WhatsApp
