the most classic is people complaining about battery drain after every update
I am no way saying I am not without complaints, but I do understand new software means bugs. My complaints come from the bugs that carry over from the prior software.

Looking forward to trying out AI on my 16 pro, but not sure I want to hop on the beta train again. Wondering just how long it will be before there is some meaningful additions to AI. The 18.1 update doesn't offer too much, and that looks like it's an early October before it's fully released. Maybe 18.2 we get the image playground and grenmojie, although I don't think I will use those that much. Should be an interesting couple of months after the release of the 16s.

i think we will see a iOS 18.0.1 update sooner rather then later anyway based off what has always happened in the past either this week or the following week

17.0 > 17.0.1 was only a couple days
16.0 > 16.0.1 was day one update for the new phones, 16.0.2 was 2 weeks after 16

i cant see 18.1 being the next public release

I do agree with this given past years. Probably Monday

This is so interesting to a person who still has a foot in the PC world. Over there we dread updates. Here they are demanded, and looked forward too. Yes they might be fixing something, but it is so different on the PC side of things.

And on non-Pixel Android devices updates are announced and show up months later. Maybe.

I was waiting to see if anyone said public beta for 18.1. Being the answer seems to say no, I have this feeling we are in for 8-9 betas this round. Going weekly here on forward would make beta 9 / RC the week of Oct 21st. So since 17.1 came out on Oct 25th last year, I could see 18.1 aligning to Monday Oct 28th or Tuesday Oct 29th. Just my guess.........

I haven’t seen any reports of (consistent) memory leaks or show stopper issues. Otherwise it could be this Friday maybe even.

Nor I. But there’s always something they need to do to get the new phones in line with any fixes that were implemented after the build they were on got forked off once production started.

I think we’ll see a public beta tomorrow (Thursday) or at latest next Thursday. But I suspect they’ll try to get 18.1 out before the end of October notwithstanding past years.

You speculated beta 5 earlier on 9/10 according with weekly seeding, but at beta 4 now. So its no longer IMHO practical to think it will be mid-October but end of October, that kinda makes 18.2 starting before end of October not the best odds. ;)

PB seed tomorrow sounds appropriate, but seems like 18.1 has a mind of its own. 🤣

Here it is past mid Sept creeping into end of Sept with no PB yet and expecting 18.1 to be early Oct, not a chance. Since you went out and acquired a 16 pro first day, just back it up on a Mac, cloud, and start using the 18.1 beta 4. That way you can learn all the time if AI is meaningful while you are participating not waiting for the public release.

iOS 18.1 public release late October, so we may see public beta next week if we are on weekly betas.

I’m hoping we see iOS 18.2 beta 1 soon, but realistically end of October we will see it.

Well I didn't acquire the 16 pro for AI because well I know very well you don't buy a device for what is promised to come, but what is on the device at the time of purchase. That said, I think you are right, full release probably won't come until mid to late October. I would rather not put a beta on my brand new iPhone, so I will just wait enjoying the things about the phone that I actually bought it for. I may put 18.1 on my 14PM (knowing there wont be any AI), and just see how that goes.

As an Apple AND PC user (having a gaming PC and several Windows-powered Mini-PCs and Laptops), I am different as it seems: I‘m a proud member of the Windows Insider Program and getting every preview version on my machines as soon as they are released. 🤩

I am an update junkie, doesn’t matter if it’s Windows, Mac, iPhone, HomePod or even my internet router/wifi-mesh system! Gimme updates!!!!111 🤣🤪🤓

Another roadmap article just published

I like how its summarized some of the details of each point release, example SIRI now and later abilities.

Seems very realistic unfortunately. The big stuff will be knocking on WWDCs door. Thinking know the smarter move would been to upgrade last year to the 15 pros and skipped the 16 pros. Hindsight is 20/20.

Still, it’s not like you would have a hard time finding a 15 Pro on eBay

No, but I just meant timeline. I like to keep my devices for 2 years, so I think the smarter plan would have been been getting the 15 pro and holding on to it for 2 years. I have a sneaking suspicion that the 17 pro is gonna be the real upgrade, and that means I will probably be upgrading then. Now that make the 16 pro just a year use phone. That’s my thought process at least.

With the road maps we have seen here for AI, I don’t think I am far off. I think the 17s will be the true AI phone, and have the biggest changes. iOS 19 will be fully baked with AI.
