Could be that their internal builds are fundamentally broken in some way that they're not comfortable seeding to developers. We'll just have to wait and see.

I’m still sticking with the template from two years ago.
16.3
16.3.1 two weeks later on Monday.
16.4 Beta 1 on Thursday.
I don’t think the new SE is a factor, we have seen products release during a Beta cycle, they usually just drop in new device support with B2 or a rerelease of B1.

It wasn’t a joke, you say “again”… when did they the first time in your eyes?
Ok, since i really have to explain that to you: It would be the third time in a row to drop the ball!

1st: Remember the very bumpy start of iOS 17 with even bricking some devices on update?

2nd: Start of iOS 18 with mainly unloved new "features" - i think of photos and mail, for example - and a nothing burger of the whole promised for December "brave new AI-world".

3rd: Would be now, by releasing a further nothing burger...

I disagree with every single one of those.

1st: iOS 17 was pretty stable for the majority of beta testers at the start, at least nearly all of the beta testers I interacted with, and that was why iOS 17 was the first beta cycle I joined because after lots of research into stability of the betas I was convinced it was stable enough. Occasionally dev betas brick devices, that is to be expected, beta testers are literally cautioned about that possibility…

2nd: We had a bunch of AI features by December, and Apple said that not all Apple Intelligence features would be available right away. That isn’t dropping the ball, that’s some people apparently got their expectations out of whack when Apple clearly communicated that Apple Intelligence features would be rolled out over a period of time.

3rd: How are you thinking 18.4 is going to be a “nothing burger”? Everything indicates this is likely going to be a very big update.

BTW: For iOS 17 i wasn't talking about Beta, i was talking about the release version of iOS 17 bricking devices while transferring data from old to new iPhone. One (in that case me!) had to wait for iOS 17.0.2 to fix this issue!

In case no one can "remember":
specially:
I’m sorry you ran into that problem, but I don’t think it was very widespread. It’s one of those things that if you’re one of the few affected it must have sucked, but I don’t think the vast majority of people had that issue. 👍🏻

The Apple TV app for Android must be today's "small announcement" that Gurman mentioned.

IMHO it’s just selling M4 refurbs nothing more. Thats the only change effecting store. ;)

I disagree, the amount of new AI features in 18.4 they need to test it thoroughly. So 8 or more betas.
Releasing 18.4 beta 1 today would mean about 8 betas until April so I don't think that 18.4 needs that many beta releases. I bet it's only next week.
Considering they want to release 18.4 in early April to the public and first two beta releases are bi-weekly, I doubt that they would fit 8 betas until it comes out. I guess if they release .4b1 today they could fit 4-5 betas + RC.

There is absolutely no reason to think it will be 8 betas...
Yeah, at this point 6 betas would get us to an April release, it wouldn’t require a full 8 betas. But 8 betas would be better considering the rumored scale of this update, we’re going to want a complete beta cycle before it drops to the public.

Alibaba officially announced their partnership with Apple to bring Apple Intelligence to China, so that could be another good sign of a beta drop today. Between the Safari Tech Preview yesterday, the Alibaba Apple Intelligence announcement, and the previous x.4 Thursday release trend, things are looking fairly positive. 👍🏻
