I’m surprised no one has talked about the features that might come outside of Apple Intelligence.
A bunch of gesture and animation tweaks, music app and AirPlay improvements were found with an iOS code by 9to5Mac recently…
Of course, there is a pretty big chance We don’t see any of this until 19.0, or not at all, but there is a lot of very interesting stuff in there.

Yeah, I’m really interested in seeing the improved App Intents framework for Siri Shortcuts that’s supposed to be coming. This is supposed to bring a bunch of new app integrations into the Shortcuts app, which could revolutionize automation. Shortcuts is already extremely useful, it’s just that some third party apps haven’t made the most use of it. But it sounds like maybe Shortcuts will be able to more automatically integrate with apps with less or possibly no work required from the devs. Maybe it will be integrated into the coding itself, as a Swift Code feature or something, there’s very little in way of details I’ve been able to find about it, I don’t think Apple said a lot about how it would work, but they did say improvements to it are coming in iOS 18 that will expand third-party app integration with Shortcuts. So this is one of the things I’m looking forward to the most. I’m also curious if there will be new settings under Privacy & Security for allowing third-party apps access to screen recording. This would give users a way to manage permissions for the on-screen awareness features of Siri, but would also possibly allow other third-party AI apps to tap into on-screen awareness capabilities with permission from users. I hope Apple adds a setting like this, it would be useful for some other kinds of apps as well, and I think it would make sense for avoiding accusations of “self-preferencing” Siri. I understand why they’re hesitant in adding a setting like this that third party apps could use, because it very much could be used in a bad way for spying and such, but if it’s allowed or disallowed by the user, it has a level of protection there. And you’re already starting to see more features that involve screen sharing and now even screen control of iOS devices. So having a setting for managing these capabilities and expanding this functionality to third-party apps with an API and settings to manage it would make a lot of sense. 👍🏻

Totally agree. I also think that they should rework the “Apple Intelligence” settings panel as it currently makes absolutely no sense.
They group it with Siri, yet plenty of the features have nothing to do with Siri.
There is a master switch for Apple Intelligence, with no indication of what it actually turns off and on.
Everything should be in their own settings panel, “writing tools” should be in the keyboards setting, the “ photo eraser” tool should be in the photos settings, etc.

Yeah, or a settings section specifically for Apple Intelligence features with setttings organized by category like “Writing Tools”, “Visual Intelligence”, etc. I guess they did rename that section of Settings to Apple Intelligence & Siri, so I guess it kind of makes sense, but maybe improve the organization within that section at least. 👍🏻

I speculate that today may be the day, in approximately 2 hours and 1 minute :D
Yeah, I think a lot of things are lining up! As I mentioned before, you have the Alibaba Apple Intelligence announcement last night/this morning, you have the Safari Tech Preview late yesterday, and you have the previous x.4 beta on Thursday trend. Lots of good signs for today!!! 👍🏻

Alibaba officially announced their partnership with Apple to bring Apple Intelligence to China, so that could be another good sign of a beta drop today. Between the Safari Tech Preview yesterday, the Alibaba Apple Intelligence announcement, and the previous x.4 Thursday release trend, things are looking fairly positive. 👍🏻
None of those normally have any effect concerning seeding, it’s Apple that is holding this up for something. Likely some completion of functionality that 2 weeks ago wasn’t finished. Yes Safari functionality such as AV1 is a example, so is all the app aware functionality for Siri.

I’m not saying these things mean it will drop today for sure, but I do think they raise the chances a bit. Next week is likely to be a busy week of hardware announcements, so I’m not sure if they will want to distract from that with an 18.4 drop. A beta drop this week would be good for a couple reasons. 1 it would get the ball rolling on testing this update, which will probably need quite a bit of beta testing before it drops to the public due to it’s rumored scale. 2 it would allow the press to bring attention to all of the great AI features Apple is working on before Apple announces a new less-expensive iPhone SE that will tap into these features. It would work as great pre-new hardware hype. And it would also allow the press to focus on the beta this weekend, and then focus on the new hardware next week, rather than attention being shared between them.

Also, a Thursday release in this case is actually statistically more likely for this beta than most others since I think it was every X.4 Beta 1 since iOS 14 has dropped on a Thursday. There’s definitely a trend there, though obviously it could change with this beta cycle. I’m hopeful for a beta release today. We’ll probably see in about a little over an hour. 👍🏻

Also, I don’t know that they would hold up the entire beta due to a functionality completion thing. I would think they could presumably drop the first beta without a functionality they haven’t finished or completed yet. It wouldn’t be the first time that Apple did this with a first dev beta as far as I’m aware. They could always release the first beta without said feature or functionality, and then add it in the next beta or even a few betas into the beta testing cycle if needed. So I’m not sure if that would be the hold up or not.

I feel so much more positive for today! 👍🏻. Hopefully we’ll know in about a half hour! 👍🏻
