Well, I won’t completely write off a release tomorrow, but I think Apple’s going to break the x.4 beta on Thursday trend this year. I don’t see them waiting all the way until next Thursday. I think we might get the beta tomorrow, but more likely Monday or Tuesday next week.
Every week they say “next week”. 😭😭😭

Tim really wants to press the button and is wondering why the engineers are taking so long.

Maybe next week, Tuesday seems likely. They’ve gotta disappoint us one last time just for fun.

Yes, but now we are closer to the final release window. Wait too much longer, and you’ll have a very short beta cycle. If we begin the beta cycle soon we could possibly fit in 5-6 betas. That’s a fairly standard beta cycle, but cut a week off and you’re looking at a relatively short beta cycle. Not to say it’s impossible, but I don’t think it’s very likely they would cut things that short.
There is no requirement to have 4,5,6 or 8 betas and there is no such thing as a "standard" beta cycle. Not sure where you are coming up with these long or short cycles or that it needs to be a Thursday because the last ones were on a Thursday. That has zero to do with when Apple will release this. They test this internally and do not really NEED the general public's input to "test" their OS before they release it. Developers will need it at some point to test their own apps with the new APIs and verify they work with this particular version but as far as the Macrumors forums users needing a longer testing cycle to "report bugs" before Apple can release it is just inaccurate. Sorry but we are just not that important contrary to popular belief. :) Apple will release it on their time and with how many betas they deem necessary to make it good enough to release.

Is this the severed floor??
Coming in May from Apple

“Murderbot” is a sci-fi thriller/comedy about a self-hacking security construct who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable clients. Murderbot must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe.

The worst part of the release would be anything meaningful delayed to 18.5.

While 18.4 only expands existing crap to other non-english languages.

hopefully not...
Surprise English is not the only language Apple supports - I would be happy to see finally Apple intelligence here in Germany

One more interesting thing would be iPhone Mirroring and FaceTime Screen Sharing coming to the EU. There has not been a word about this just yet from Apple, right? We only have Apple Intelligence confirmed?

I think you’re misunderstanding what I’m saying. I’m not saying our imput is critical or anything. But it is true that Apple will want to provide us with likely at least 3-4 betas to test so that developers actually have time to prepare their apps, and so that Apple can get some feedback and fix bugs where needed. I don’t think we’ve ever had a beta cycle that was less than 4 betas, at least not for an update like this. If Apple releases a beta soon, we will get about 5-6 betas tops before early April release. That would be a normal beta cycle for an update like 18.4. And given the already long gap, I don’t see why they’d want to wait any longer. Developers are going to need some time to update and test their apps, so hopefully we should be getting a beta soon so that they actually have time to do so…

Are you forgetting that even if you are not actively providing feedback to Apple any issues of unexpected system or process’s is automatically sent and collected by Apple against the greatly expanded device pool with hardware/software variants then what Apple tests internally with? Yes your forgetting what beta testing is mostly about is to capture and documenting rarer situations? Yes it starts with devs, then the even more public testers.

For all the Gurman fans out there he has giving you hope for a Friday beta release. 🤦🏼‍♂️
That’s good to hear. And yes, that would be extremely rare, but as others pointed out, the build numbers suggest there have been lots of revisions and delays. They’re probably anxious to finally release this.

For the record Gurman is predicting a Friday beta release with practically nothing new. Let’s see if he’s right.
