In my dev team a release on a Friday is a no-go (though we do it nevertheless sometimes). But for a beta... let's see.
In past private beta testing outside of Apple never factored particularly days of the week. It was all about fixing bugs with operating gear so it work better at the earliest time for vendors products. Also betas was related to change logs of what’s done to get that release out the door not predetermined build points. Too many so called Apple experts are clueless to think the number of betas is significant only to the scope of changes involved without understanding its continuous improvement process with most consumer electronics? Doing that years before Apples efforts.

Are you forgetting that even if you are not actively providing feedback to Apple any issues of unexpected system or process’s is automatically sent and collected by Apple against the greatly expanded device pool with hardware/software variants then what Apple tests internally with? Yes your forgetting what beta testing is mostly about is to capture and documenting rarer situations? Yes it starts with devs, then the even more public testers.
Yes I am aware of all that. My point was that there is not a requirement for 6-8 (or any number) of betas before Apple will release an OS. It will depend on if it accomplishes what their goal is for their particular release with no major issues. Maybe 1 maybe 8 or more betas. As we all know a new version does NOT mean its bug free but will be acceptable in Apple's eyes to release. And certainly not what a group of MacRumors forum users deem as unacceptable lags or stutters :)

That’s good to hear. And yes, that would be extremely rare, but as others pointed out, the build numbers suggest there have been lots of revisions and delays. They’re probably anxious to finally release this.

For the record Gurman is predicting a Friday beta release with practically nothing new. Let’s see if he’s right.
Gurman is predicting a Friday beta, but I don’t see any reference to it coming with “practically nothing new”. BTW, I said a Friday beta was possible before Gurman did. Even if the first beta is light on new features, we will absolutely need to have new features in the final public release in early April. First, there are new Default Apps categories Apple will need to add in the EU, which they will likely just release everywhere like the other Default Apps categories. Then you have where Apple states on their website that new Apple Intelligence features will come in early April. So there is pretty much zero chance that 18.4 is another 18.3 with no new features…

Languages first and foremost is most requested outside Siri

Yes, and 18.4 will definitely add more language support. And I’m not arguing 18.4 will necessarily include all of the Siri improvements either. But 18.4 should definitely add new features, unlike 18.3. We already know Apple will have to add Default Apps categories, and we also know that Apple has recently stated on their website that new Apple Intelligence features are coming in early April. If Apple was already dealing with major issues that they determined they would have to strip those features out of 18.4 and push them back to 18.5, then it would make absolutely no sense to promise them in early April. So I’m very confident we will see new Apple Intelligence features as well, since Apple told us as much just a couple days ago. 👍🏻

I think there is a pretty good chance we get a beta today! I looked at the calendar and plotted out a couple possible scenarios for an 18.4 beta cycle, and I think it really is likely to start either today or early next week. Here’s how an 18.4 beta release cycle could shake out if they drop one today:

- Beta 1: Feb 21
- Beta 2: March 11 (shift to weekly Tuesday releases)
- Beta 3: March 18
- Beta 4: March 25
- Beta RC: April 1
- Public release: April 8 (Early April)

As you can see, that would be a fairly average beta cycle. So I think there’s actually a pretty decent chance of a beta drop either today or early next week. Maybe they decide to drop it late next week, but that would create a shorter than average beta cycle. 👍🏻

To be fair, you’ve been saying every day is possible.

If Apple is having problems with this build, are we sure it's a good idea to install it on our daily drivers? 🤔 Who's going to be the guinea pigs?

(Yes, I know...should install on a spare/test device, but we all know that doesn't happen.)
NO RISK NO FUN 😃 I always put it on my dally driver. Just do a backup before and you’re good!

It depends on what’s included. If there’s minimal and the AI stuff was pushed back to 18.5, I’ll install. If they’re trying to push the new features on 18.4, I’ll wait.

There will basically certainly be AI stuff in 18.4. Apple just told us a couple days ago they would drop new Apple Intelligence features in early April. If they were having such issues with these features that they decided they would have to remove them and postpone them to 18.5, it would make absolutely no sense to promise them in early April. Now it is up for question what Apple Intelligence features Apple will release in April (it’s possible the Siri enhancements won’t be part of that), but there’s basically zero question that 18.4 will add Apple Intelligence features because Apple just told us as much two days ago. Personally, I think there’s a good chance we’d possibly see at least some of the Siri enhancements in 18.4. I don’t think Apple has to deliver all of them at once, they’ve actually already shown they can slowly improve Siri with the ChatGPT integration. They didn’t try to roll out all of the enhancements at once when they added that, I see no reason they couldn’t possibly improve the conversational abilities of Siri without the on-screen awareness or vice versa, they aren’t really inter-reliant features. But we’ll see, perhaps Siri enhancements won’t come in 18.4. The thing that is virtually certain though is that 18.4 will indeed add AI features, and beyond that will also likely add smaller OS features like new Default Apps categories, unlike 18.3 which added nothing.
