iOS 18 Speculation Thread

Thank you. What difference does the exact software version number make? All that matters is that these features are facing delays. It’s still late, late, late.
Yes, it’s very disappointing. I agree, it doesn’t matter if it is iOS 18 or 19 that they come out. Which is why I think maybe it should be in 19 at this point. Hell, I’ve seen some people call for Apple to totally kill Siri and build a new LLM and call it something else.
According to some YouTube channels I follow like FPT, the redesign for iOS was supposed to be in iOS 18, I hope it’s not delayed again because of the AI delay. It’s going to be an interesting WWDC and will be here before we know it.
This is pretty out of character for Apple, but at the end of the day these phones have like what 8gb of ram? Whatever they do end up releasing may not be that impressive, I hope the 17s have a lot of ram. Apple could still do something special if they can get a privacy focused, locally running LLM that works well. It’s not unusual for Apple to be late adding new features, just the messaging and marketing I think people are frustrated with. Them pulling ads is telling.

That means we shouldn't expect it until iOS 19.4 at the earliest. And if you ask me, seeing the disaster that the whole Apple AI thing is being, we won't get to see many features as they showed them at WWDC 24, if they even get to see them.
They better present something really interesting at the hardware level for the iPhone 17, because in terms of software, another year of broken promises is not economically sustainable, and even more so seeing the sales numbers of the iPhone 16 series.
I think Apple has to come out and explain what is happening with honesty and transparency, which is about time. Users deserve it, and even more so when they bought a device promoted for features that we will see if they even get them at some point in the future.

The 17 will sell fine because of the new camera bump and Air model. For iOS 19 they'll probably be more careful about how and what features they announce.
I won't be surprised if they will quickly wind down iOS 18 development to only bug fixes so they can focus on getting iOS 19 right. We might not be seeing much until June.
Pretty sure about that. With the delay of the on screen awareness, there isn’t much more exciting for iOS 18, right?
Would only bet on some bugfixes of the AI features that are already implemented but nothing really new anymore.
Yes, since there is barely anything new in this beta, a rapid beta cycle with no big issues is expected. I presume that we will have a GM within this month.
The delay isn’t necessarily into iOS 19 though. We still could see the features drop in a later iOS 18 update like 18.5, 18.6, etc. We don’t know yet.
If you believe that, you’d believe anything. Apple used the word ‘year’ in their statement for a solid reason.
There won’t be any useful Ai updates until next year for sure.
You don’t need to be disrespectful. I respect your opinion, I just pointed out that Apple hasn’t said the features are delayed into iOS 19. The statement we have from an Apple spokesperson (not anything official on the site like I would expect if they knew it was delayed into iOS 19), says they’re hoping to release the features within the coming year. A big part of that year is still going to have iOS 18 updates, iOS 19 only comes out late this year. So there’s potential for both outcomes. We simply don’t have concrete evidence in either way.
Apologies - didn’t mean that to sound harsh. Was just trying to say that I strongly think that Apple are not going to make big AI updates for a long time.

Thanks, I agree that I wouldn’t recommend people get their hopes up, it’s probably definitely going to be a while. We’ll see which way it ends up panning out. 👍🏻
You won’t like this theory, but what if they didn’t say iOS 19 for a reason? And that reason is it could take until 20?
If the conversational Siri is delayed too that was planned for iOS 19, and now the iOS 18 Siri is delayed. There are rumors they are totally starting over.
I don’t think that would be the case, but as I have said before, we lack concrete evidence, so it’s possible. What we have currently is incredibly vague. It can be interpreted many different ways. But I will say this, in my opinion, if they knew they were looking at that long of a delay, I would think they would issue a public statement that clearly laid that out, and would change their site’s phrasing. It still says these features are rolling out in “coming months”. So I don’t personally think that interpretation makes much sense with the rest of the evidence.
There's a huge problem at Apple, and I'm afraid as it runs now they'll miss the next swing again
First, they floundered the release of a car. Does anyone know how much time and money they invested to come up with zero product and just to pull out entirely? Nothing was ever publically promised, that's a good thing. The three (?) engineers that sold off their R&D to betray their efforts and progress are not the ONLY reason they failed
Now the AI promised, and delayed. They missed all of the first stages, and simply aren't nimble enough to catch up
Then the obvious for those of us that know.. there is no movement discernible for the next most important move: AI in robotics. Elon knows full well how important it is to catch this next wave, and plenty of other companies. Apple has the cash to get in but no one has discerned that they're working on this yet. It'll be a huge huge wave, sure hope Apple manages to get in before everyone proves years and years ahead in R&D
