Well, it’s 20 August today, so we can have:

iOS 18.0 DB7 today
iOS 18.0 DB8 next week, on Monday-Tuesday, 26-27 August (more likely on Tuesday)
iOS 18.0 RC after the event on Tuesday, 10 September.
This 100%! I can't remember last year all RCs were after the event. That is when everyone realized that the Ultra 1s got the modular Ultra watch face. But I do remember RCs being after the event.

However iOS 18 isn’t ready, but that gives Apple a little over a month from today when iPhone 16s ship.

The new phones are likely already in production. Whatever flavor of 18.0 is going on them is likely complete and ready to load.

We should have 18.0 beta 7 today (8/20)

Beta 8 next Tuesday (8/27). Then a two week hiatus until the RC on 9/10.

The RC has to come after the event because the RC has to have on it any new iPhone feature that is announced at the iPhone event. The RC will be feature complete.

I forget this, but you are 100% right. The final version is already loaded on 16, so whatever we get is beta 7,8, RC was already planned out.

Yes, hence why I mentioned the watch face. Not iOS directly related, but it stood out as something big from the event that got added to the RC that no beta had before it.

They might release both 18.0 and 18.1 betas today, as they did last week.

I would not be terribly surprised to see that. I think that the people who are looking for 18.1 in late October are going to be pleasantly surprised when it arrives early (either late September or early October).

We are already at beta 2. A typical .1 release has 4 (16.1) or 5 (17.1) betas. Even if we allow for 6 betas (because 18.1 is special), if we got beta 3 next week (8/27) and went weekly from there, we’d have beta 6 potentially by .. surprise, surprise .. September 10th.

Seems awfully convenient, does it not?

Let’s assume it goes 7 betas and stays on an every other week schedule until 18.0 launches. Then it might look like this:

Don’t forget we can also get an iOS 18.0.1 forced download for all the new gear, so Apple can still tweak iOS 18 in September, if needed.
Oh yes, usually there is something. Last year was the heating issues with 15 pros (never truly got fixed 🤦‍♂️), but yeah always a small one in September.

Oh man getting a little bold here! I think today will answer the big question if 18.1 goes weekly. I think the only possible way it goes weekly and RC here for 9/10 would be if they add no other AI features to it. If they add Genmoji or Image Playground, it would most likely be October.

*Just guessing for those that take my post as facts. ALL guesses.

Obviously that is what the DEVELOPER PREVIEW was created to permit. Though you really should be reporting any bugs you find, to be honest.
I report more bugs than the VAST majority of dev beta users. But they are nearly all to do with issues with swift/Xcode and how they pertain to my apps. I have enough to do without filing additional reports because mail unread count is incorrect etc.

First they must be completely convinced that the production in India is satisfactory, they are training the teams and let's see what happens from here to the launch of the iPhone 16 (at least that's what I've read)

Not sure this is tracking what the person you responded to was saying.
