Bill Gates predicts the decline of current AI and bets instead on metacognitive AI for the future.

Bill Gates challenges the limitations of current AI models and invites us to imagine a new horizon: metacognitive AI.
Bill Gates, one of the most influential visionaries in the field of technology, predicts a significant change in the development of artificial intelligence (AI).
Despite not being in the direction of Microsoft, Gates continues to set trends in technological innovation.
In his recent statements, he has talked about the potential and limitations of current AI and has proposed a revolutionary approach for its future.
Bill Gates' impact on technological innovation.
In a recent episode of the Next Big Idea Club podcast, Gates expressed his amazement at the rapid evolution of AI and its transformative potential.
However, he also pointed out an important limitation in current AI models, such as ChatGPT or Llama: they are non-deterministic systems that simply replicate pre-existing data patterns.
Gates described them as "stochastic parrots", capable of generating coherent responses based on vast data sets, but lack true understanding and originality.
Bill Gates proposes that the future of AI should focus on metacognition, that is, on developing systems that are aware of their own knowledge and thought processes.
This ability would allow AI not only to replicate information, but also to apply knowledge in an innovative way to solve complex problems.
According to Gates, metacognition is "the Holy Grail" of AI, crucial for these systems to be more than simple automation tools.
How metacognitive AI will surpass current AI
The tycoon emphasizes that the real revolution in AI will not be to achieve greater speed or processing capacity, but in how these systems think and solve problems.
Currently, AI models generate responses through continuous computing of data sequences, without a true understanding of the context or intention behind the tasks.
Gates argues that future models must be able to "take a step back" and holistically consider the problem before generating a solution.
Despite the exponential improvements planned for current models, Gates believes that they can only advance in terms of precision and learning to a certain extent.
Metacognitive AI, on the other hand, could address problems more effectively by evaluating the importance of information, verifying its responses and using external tools to improve its accuracy.
This capacity for deep and contextual analysis is, for Gates, the "great frontier for General Artificial Intelligence"
Bill Gates and the comparison of AI with Aristotle's thought.
Gates compares this metacognitive approach with Aristotle's problem-solving method, which is based on the analysis of the first principles.
This process involves decomposing a problem into its fundamental components and recomposing them to find innovative solutions.
This approach has been key to the successes of entrepreneurs such as Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, and Gates believes that it is essential for the development of a truly advanced AI.
The future of Artificial Intelligence, according to Bill Gates.
Bill Gates envisions a future in which artificial intelligence is not only able to learn and replicate data, but to understand and apply knowledge in a creative and effective way.
The transition to metacognitive AI represents a qualitative leap in technology, which could transform not only process automation, but also the way we approach and solve complex problems.
Gates' vision invites us to imagine a future where AI not only enhances our capabilities, but also helps us reach new levels of innovation and understanding.

@gwhizkids I've already prepared it for you.

I predict 18.0b7 only, 18.1 is still biweekly (so next week).

Reap what you sow 18.1 junkies, begone and enjoy your laggy beta schedule.
I kind of think you are right about the 18.1 not going weekly yet.

I won't go that far on 18.1 users, but I have said before that you have to be brave to try 18.1. It's unknown length of time being on the beta, and AI is totally new on the iPhone. Not a fun progress to roll back to other versions of iOS if it's a mess. Just a lot of risks, but more power to them. May thank them later.

3/4th of all beta testers are almost useless telemetry collectors that don’t directly contribute towards the greater good anyways.

Won't disagree, but still thankful for the ones that actually submit feedback to make things better for the rest of us. I am still on the fence with AI on my iPhone, but I sure as hell want it solid if I put it on my phone. I don't want some janky ass experience that makes my overall OS worse.

It seems to me that you speak without much knowledge of the facts, there is a lot of enlightened, and you must know the person to whom you want to make a comment like the ones you have made @TimFL1 !!!

No. Based on what I’ve seen in these forums, @TimFL1 is likely correct. Most probably put the betas on their devices to get new features early. Some comment here if they have an issue. Fewer probably file active feedback (as opposed to automatically collected feedback).

What you have to refer to is the Feedback that users who (do not install to try new things) bring errors and improvements of options and features, at least that is my task, that's why I say that you have to know people and not evaluate them directly as "those who want to try new things on their main devices", I agree that there are people like that and if I have done that "clash" of today the beta x of 18.1, it is simply because of how expectant some people are in it coming out. Neither more nor less. So @TimFL1 and @gwhizkids are still friends!!! ;):cool:

Maybe we should set up a poll...I'd like to know how many report "bugs". However, Some bugs that you might see could be acceptable to me and vice-versa.

EDIT---poll created

Zero to do with iOS 18 speculation.

3/4th of all beta testers are almost useless telemetry collectors that don’t directly contribute towards the greater good anyways.
A sizeable proportion of beta testers, myself included, are testing their apps against the latest OS. They are not necessarily going to provide feedback to Apple.

3/4th of all beta testers are almost useless telemetry collectors that don’t directly contribute towards the greater good anyways.
And what about the others that don't come here to vent and they do file feedbacks? I'm sure Macrumors is not even 5% of all beta testers. While your statement has some truth to it, it's not good data to make an assumption.

So when does this party start? 😉 🥃🍺🍻🥂🍸😂 I predicted .1 beta for yesterday or today because I think they need to start testing Private Cloud Compute and the AI implantation in .1b2 is still only local…so…big hopes for today guys!!!

Speculation Apple event September 10th. So… iOS 18 should be out week after event on new iPhones. If this is the case iOS 18 next beta will be RC.

And we will see iOS 18.1 betas drop faster. 😁
You think we aren't getting 7 or 8 betas? I dont think 18.0 is ready for RC.

If they are syncing .1 with .0, we should see both today. Be interesting to see if that is the direction they go. I think they both need a few tweaks.

Well, it’s 20 August today, so we can have:

iOS 18.0 DB7 today
iOS 18.0 DB8 next week, on Monday-Tuesday, 26-27 August (more likely on Tuesday)
iOS 18.0 RC after the event on Tuesday, 10 September.
