Since we're pushing to keep this thread on track, let's put the bug discussions in the appropriate beta release threads, folks. 😊

It's worth keeping in mind that there is still the infrequently-used 1 PM Pacific release window for Apple to push new builds out today, but I wouldn't put actual money on it — at this point all I can guess is that we'll probably see a new build sometime between tomorrow and next Tuesday (remembering that Monday is the U.S. Labor Day holiday).

I wouldn't think so — that's a backend services infrastructure issue, handled by a totally different part of the company from the software release pipeline.

It could just be one of those occasional blips in the beta testing schedule where they need some extra testing time before pushing a build out, or it could have been in the schedule all along.

I tend to think the latter explanation. My guess is the number of times each year when Apple does not hit a date it puts on its own schedule is probably less than five.

So seems like Gurman is right and it’s tomorrow Wednesday! See ya tomorrow with beta 8 and beta 3 18.1

Honestly it feels almost disrespectful not to have a new 18.1 beta yesterday or today. Disrespectful of their customers and their customers time. We have jobs and a life and we can't constantly plan around targets they miss.

We are commiting to test there software as soon as it comes out to tell them the bugs in time for them to fix it. If we do our part to install right away and plan our lives around it they need to do their part too and actually give us the betas on time.

What targets have they missed?

Apple is under no obligation to share their beta release schedule with anyone outside the company, and as far as I am aware, has not shared the 18.1 release date as anything more specific than "this fall" (which gives them until November 30, if it doesn't slip further).

The only people for know for sure the (current) targeted release date for 18.1 are the iOS/iPadOS product managers — everyone else is just guessing.

You should read what terms you agree to. Apple explicitly tells you that this is for developers to test their apps with and to use the builds on development devices.

IMHO it comes across as the 18.0 beta 8 and 18.1 beta 3 are still having underlying issues that are causing the delay. We also should not look at this just though the iPhone perspective, this is across the board (iOS/iPadOS/MacOS). Its certainly suggesting that when 18.0 get released there will be point releases before some transition to a unified seed instead of the with or without AI features which so far (18.0 vs 18.1) is not absolutely to die for. (18.2?)

No new Beta today? That's sad knowing how bad works keyboard on Dev Beta7... and I doubt they will fix it and few more issues before RC.

They did well job fixing:
- heating (most of times fixed)
- ControlCenter widgets playing hide and seek, being removed out of sudden or reorganised after system language change, restart, force restart or during respring during overnight charging d or not being able to be set freely
- Lock Screen battery widgets not having device selection or possibility to set in such order we want (regression to iOS 17)
- Safari having flashing reloading of webpage miniatures when scrolling
- Calculator app not having working Currency Conversion
- Apps removed due to not using them for long time were losing their icon
- grey/ white widgets when system has Dark Mode
- HUGE EMOJI KEYBOARD
and many more

Reading through the thread, and running the betas. This has been a rather weird beta cycle. 18.0 along with 18.1, updates sometimes on Mondays sometimes on Tuesday and now Wednesday, and rather weird schedule for 18.1. The presentation on 9/9 should be interesting to say the least. AI seeming to be the theme of the show, hope they are ready to release some of the AI stuff at that point.

Maybe the delay this week means added features to 18.1?

I’m afraid to update so I don’t lose the fixes. Especially the mobile signal drops 🤣😂😂

I’ll watch the forums for reports anyway

First I'll be the guy that says I don't plan my life around a beta, there are items in life that are way larger than a beta being released / not released. I will also say that we should be thankful they include us at all. They could easily say hey if you don't publish a app to the App Store, no beta for you.....

They could also do this in a bubble with zero interaction with anyone outside of Apple.

They did not miss any targets that we know of because they don't release a public schedule. Therefore saying they missed a target is not accurate. If it comes tomorrow, the plan may have always been tomorrow. We do not know....

My point is no one has been disrespectful, we are along for the ride and we need to enjoy the privilege of Apple allowing us to do so.

It does not come across that way at all. Where are you coming up with that? Because Apple didn’t release betas on dates it didn’t tell us it was going to release the betas on?

Recently Apple is pretty consistent with dev seeding on Mondays or Tuesdays.
iOS 17.0 beta 8 - Tuesday August 29 2023
iOS 16.0 beta 8 - Monday August 29 2022
iOS 15.0 beta 8 - Tuesday August 31 2021
Is it improper to be pessimistic with unexpected tardiness? Unanticipated discovered issues late in the beta cycle? It not like it never happened before. :D

Is this post sarcastic? They haven't committed to any cadence to provide beta updates. This is something we enthusiasts choose to do.

I really hope it was a joke 😂
Nonetheless, no one is forcing you to install any Developer or Public beta releases and report bugs to them. Saying ‘we are committing’ is very exaggerated. There are lots of people (including myself) who are still running stable iOS 17 releases (at least on primary devices) and will wait until September or even longer to jump onto iOS 18.

Ok, I know it’s a thing today to find something…ANYTHING…to get bent out of shape and complain about, but wow. Just…wow. If you’re planning your life around a beta release…you have some SERIOUSLY out of whack priorities.

Who’s to say yesterday or today were even Apple’s intended target date?

You really find that unusual? There are a lot of techies that delight on being more cutting edge and reporting issues they encounter with beta software. Think of them as being in the fast lane getting ahead and learning, rather then following everyone else that will eventually complain about OS/feature changes months later. :D

No one flipflops as hard as gurman.

He implies that B8 is the eventual RC build, which happens almost every year (the last released beta being an identical build to the eventual RC), not that it’s the RC.

A week ago that flopper said B7 is final?
He has to make sure he has all of his bases covered that way he can claim he was correct (even though he speaks out of both sides of his mouth).

Currency conversion in the calculate app works for me on beta 7.
