No one flipflops as hard as gurman.

He implies that B8 is the eventual RC build, which happens almost every year (the last released beta being an identical build to the eventual RC), not that it’s the RC.

A week ago that flopper said B7 is final?
I believe he stated that B7 was "feature finished" and would only be addressing bugs and optimization going forward. Not that B7 would be the final build.

Recently Apple is pretty consistent with dev seeding on Mondays or Tuesdays.
iOS 17.0 beta 8 - Tuesday August 29 2023
iOS 16.0 beta 8 - Monday August 29 2022
iOS 15.0 beta 8 - Tuesday August 31 2021
Is it improper to be pessimistic with unexpected tardiness? Unanticipated discovered issues late in the beta cycle? It not like it never happened before. :D

Apple has never attempted to deploy something like Apple Intelligence before, or anything that ambitious. You are perceiving tardiness without any awareness of Apple’s internal scheduling. Personally, I would not do that.

Is it tardiness when Apple never says when they will release betas? When and what days. I don’t see it as tardiness, just making sure things are the way they should be.

I am with you on this one. If this year has proven anything, it’s that history doesn’t dictate the future for Apple.

This is a rather far stretch, but given the development of Apple Intelligence and iOS 18.1 simultaneously to the 18.0 beta release, perhaps we could see the 18.0 RC today and the general release on 9/9. If not then I'd guess 18.0 b8 and 18.1 b3 today.

I need .1b3 to drop today. I just restored my home folder from an external SSD to a new internal SSD on my Mac Studio and I couldnt restore the 15.1 firmware to the new SSD, so I had to deploy the last 15 beta. However, my iPhoto library is 15.1 so the Photos app from the regular beta is not able to connect to the new .1 library. And I cannot update the 15.0 beta 7 to 15.1 beta 2 because the build number is older! Very frustrating.

iOS 18.0 DB7 runs fine for me as is, except for the battery life, but I do hope the iOS 18.1 lot get their beta 3 today.
I still think we will get iOS 18.0 DB8 today and the RC on 09.09.

This release cycle is a carbon copy of iOS 13, which had 13.0 stop at B8 (which turned out to be the eventual RC) and simultaneously seed 13.1.

Back then it was due to sanctions, now it’s due to AI. I assume we see B8 today and that will end up being the RC, but it wont be labeled RC out of the gate today.

Historically RC is the same build as B8 with the “a” removed. It’s maybe been 1-2 builds newer some years but not always. So one way or another, RC is virtually today, then then release day .0.1 with a few builds newer.

With iOS 16 and 17, the RC build has been 3 builds higher than beta 8, on 15 it has been 4 builds.
Last time, beta 8 has had the same build as RC was with iOS 14.
and basically those incremental 3 or 4 builds are what go into a likely 18.0.1 for the new phones when they arrive

Hoping badly for a beta 8 with a good amount of bug fixes especially for heat on my 15 PM and therefore battery drain

Not sure if we will see those fixes in this beta. Seeing that apps can’t update for iOS 18 yet, the optimization is still not there. That on top of all the logging the beta is doing, I would think our best hope would be for the RC to address these issues in a couple of weeks.

What targets have they missed?

Apple is under no obligation to share their beta release schedule with anyone outside the company, and as far as I am aware, has not shared the 18.1 release date as anything more specific than "this fall" (which gives them until November 30, if it doesn't slip further).

The only people for know for sure the (current) targeted release date for 18.1 are the iOS/iPadOS product managers — everyone else is just guessing.
