I wouldn't be surprised if the iPhone 17 Pro models get as much as 16 GB, thanks to the new 2 nm production process. The iPhone 17/17 Slim models could up their RAM to 10 GB using an improved 3 nm prodution process.
It's already said that N3P is for Series 17, since N2 is starting production in late 2025/early 2026.

Many people complain every time Apple releases a new iPhone that Apple does not innovate anything, or come up with anything original that makes it worth the upgrade. They continue this rhetoric bashing Apple.

Yet, when Apple releases an iOS update that takes advantage or utilizes the hardware in the new phones, people think their old phones should support these new features.

Maybe, just maybe, people should complain less and upgrade their phones instead of moaning and bashing Apple. That way, they can enjoy these new iOS features.

Or maybe, people should ask themselves if they really, really need these new iOS features ;)

This time the complaining is different. Apple is telling everyone to hear that they’ve been working on AI for years. Do that bags the question why isn’t last years iPhone 15 and some phones before not able to run AI? The A-series surely can but it’s the amount of RAM that’s holding it back.

In my opinion it’s planned obsolescence and forces you to buy the newest IPhone or 15 pro purely for the 8 GB RAM.

The 16 comes with 8 GB RAM and it’s the minimal requirement for using AI. I won’t be surprised it will even need more RAM next year. That’s one complaint.

My second one is that a 60 hz refresh rate in 2024 is something only Apple can get away with. Even entry models from competitors come with 120 hz superamoled displays these days as with 16 GB RAM.

My third complaint is the little progress Apple made in one year. If they are out of ideas (which seems in my opinion for the whole range) they could at least offer better specifications like more RAM, better cameras, more storage.

All the above proofs to me that Apple has become a lazy, greedy company and not the nimble innovative Apple it once was.

It's not just Apple. Nowadays it's getting harder and harder to introduce many new stuff, since most of them reached maturity. I'm pretty sure they have the hardware/capacity to give you everything now, but than what? Imagine if Apple gave you the best camera, SoC, screen and best features for one model. It's obvious they have to keep something for the next year. It's business.

So why is everyone out innovating Apple these days? I hear the excuse that the development of mobile phones have reached majority every time… but when comparing iPhones with competitors Apple is offering the minimum in specifications compared to others. Apple has become money driven. They could easily give their phones more RAM and storage, better sensors for the cameras, etc.

The fact that last year iPhone 15 Pro can’t even handle AI proofs that.

Time to vote with your wallets for a better Apple!

So you think there is an absolute "best" spec component that Apple is delaying until next year that they could have provided this year?
So why is everyone out innovating Apple these days?
Let's debate. Name everyone's features and functions whereby that can demonstrably be shown across the competitive landscape that they are out innovating Apple.

It has been shown specs alone do not make a better experience.
Apple has become money driven.
So are you suggesting apple has somehow forced its' customers to buy it's phones. Because vote with your $$$ works very well in sending a message. Ask Blackberry.
They could easily give their phones more RAM and storage, better sensors for the cameras, etc.
To what end? The spec sheet?
The fact that last year iPhone 15 Pro can’t even handle AI proofs that.
It proves nothing.

Yep, I'd give the post a like for this one statement, but the post itself is generalized nonsense.

The iPhone 15 Pro could've handled "Apple Intelligence" last year if it existed. It can and will handle it going forward starting with the release of iOS 18.1.

Time to? When it comes to smartphones, people vote with their wallet about every three years or so on average.

Last years iPhone 15 can’t. That’s planned obsolescence by Apple.

I hope people will use their brains and vote with their wallets. Nothing to see from the iPhone 12 SSSS this year and probably underwhelming next year too when the 12 SSSSS comes out.

Your comment (and my reply) was specifically about the 15 Pro. The 15 Pro and Pro Max absolutely can handle "Apple Intelligence."

With Apple increasingly leaning on services for revenue growth, they're probably regretting skimping on RAM now.
If they had put more RAM in previous iPhones, there'd literally be billions of potential Apple Intelligence customers from the get go.
Now they'll instead have to wait many many years for them to upgrade.

Not really, they just use that as a reason to upgrade. Oh, your're phone won't run XY? Then here is the latest model which has ample capability to do so! I remember the first iPod touch that lacked a simple physical volume button or the first iPad which had no camera which seemed like it should have been included, even in some sort of basic form.

They've always sold feature upgrades as the latest and best model.
