Consumers: Here's a chance to finally put these heavily advertised neural engines to substantial use!

I also have a 14 Pro and still wonder why it didn’t get the option to take 24mp photos like the iPhone 15 with the same A16 Bionic and 6GB of RAM. I have a feeling there will be at least one AI feature exclusive to the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. Don’t feel too confident 15 Pro owners that you’ll get every AI feature. That’s not the Apple way.Great. My two year old 14 Pro won’t get the new features. That’s absurd.

Why do people express surprise that an entirely novel feature set won’t work on every possible older hardware revision? It’s ridiculous to assume it would. Welcome to technological progress. Will of course not. Apple will never miss a chance to sell more hardware whether the customer needs it or not.
What? I never take new software coming with new features for granted. You are misreading my last sentence. I say that because users are conditioned To update software more or less unconditionally, and generally software update comes with new features here and there. In short, the overall environment determines that user will likely expect something new when software update is released. Nagging users to update hence is a terrible practice imo.So because the phone nags you to update to the latest software, you perceive this as a promise to give you every new feature that is released now and in the future?
Unfortunately to me it seems that the world is heading towards that direction at a fast pace. If you watched “I, Robot”, which was a movie released in 2004 discussing this very same issue, you can see the aftermath of full AI, and how hard it could be to contain a rouge AI.Humans have already become mindless zombies staring mindlessly at their phones screens for most of the day.
AI will now adds laziness to the equation. It’s only a matter of time when machines will be ruling this world.
I personally do not see what the excitement is about letting a computer dictate a slab of text or create an image which is not your own creation, I will pass on the bugs & the laziness.
Exactly. I don't want this. I don't even use Siri. I'm thinking my 13 mini will be my last iPhone.I have a XR. I don’t care at all about AI. My concern is how much iOS18 will slow down my old XR phone and how much quicker will it drain my battery. So even though I can update, I’ll wait for others to assess what if any are the drawbacks to iOS18 for older phones.
Thanks! Most likely they are referring to the 12.9”, while you have an 11”. The 12.9” 5th gen corresponds to the 11” 3rd gen, because the first two iPad Pro generations were 12.9”-only.
They don’t need to win hearts and minds. Just keep the cash rolling in. Why do people think otherwise. So, a phone that is only a year old in the product line (iPhone 15 / 15 Plus) won't be able to run new AI features… You should be ashamed of yourselves Apple! You're not winning hearts and minds with that one.
So glad I bought a 15 Plus and didn't pay the Pro tax for features I don't use. I'll wait until the AI features trickle down to cheaper models in about a year (like Dynamic Island did).
Apple may surprise you because of their work of running LLMs in low memory environment.Don’t worry 6gb is just like 12gb as 8 is just like 16gb right Apple? Everything will run on all devices because of magic apple ram
Personally think that features that Apple is building AI servers for can be available on broader line of devices even Intel Macs. And even some on device one. Even now system use AI cores for on device features. It is just matter of Memory, performance and power consumption.Great. My two year old 14 Pro won’t get the new features. That’s absurd.
Aren't most Android phones using Google Play and other services as well as Google updates? There is a lot more than Google and Samsung in the Android ecosystem. And yes even today there are tons of Android devices being sold stuck on 2-3 older versions of Android. Sure Google and Samsung have "better" support, but that's only a fraction of the market.
At least the „on-device“ AI features. Older models will require an online connection and might offer less features. We will see. I honestly don’t see all features on the 15 Pros, there will be something locked to sell the new 16 (Pro) models. That is a confusing list! So does this mean that according to Mark Gurman only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max get the new AI features?
It's the same feature just like battery cycles and Smart HDR versions. Nothing is hardware related. Smart HDR5 is on iPhone 15 which you said it's using A16. Than may be you say, that the sensors are different, but no... iPhone 15 Pro on the other hand is using exactly the same camera sensors just like 14 Pro. So yeah, everything is software locked. I mean it's a shame, but for me - I was getting anyway the 16 Pro (Max). Every 2 (3 max) years upgrade is good.I also have a 14 Pro and still wonder why it didn’t get the option to take 24mp photos like the iPhone 15 with the same A16 Bionic and 6GB of RAM. Sure, but Apple does not apply reason, they don't even try. Apple is just, "buy this years device or go to &^^%."Why do people express surprise that an entirely novel feature set won’t work on every possible older hardware revision? It’s ridiculous to assume it would. Welcome to technological progress.

Yeah those darn businesses hoping to make money - keep it coming Apple I have got shares !Will of course not. Apple will never miss a chance to sell more hardware whether the customer needs it or not.
