So after this, I'm sure Apple will see that new OS will require much more RAM, leaving those with 8Gb whether it be M1, M2 or M3 with limited functionality, even with their magic RAM.

Will though be poetic justice for those whose muddled thinking suggested 8Gb was fine when even a few tabs open and some software already suggests 16Gb.

No complaints or posts to me, send them straight to Tim. He can no doubt ensure that the existing 8GB Apple Magic base configuration on most computing devices now has the propensity of 8Gb equivalent to 32Gb of real world RAM. (tic)

Don’t worry 6gb is just like 12gb as 8 is just like 16gb right Apple? Everything will run on all devices because of magic apple ram
So magic it just works Even in works Requiring 16GB of RAM. Wait, I thought Apple says their 8GB of RAM is equivalent of 32GB on windows PC?
But some guys will defend it, so please apple go back to 6gb ram, for iphone 16, it is plenty.
PLENTY GOOD ENOUGH for sure. What’s this ”AI” thing, not important.

Silly Apple. You’re not going to get me to upgrade until my iPhone 14 Pro Max dies.

But seriously, this is typical Apple greed.

So, a phone that is only a year old in the product line (iPhone 15 / 15 Plus) won't be able to run new AI features… You should be ashamed of yourselves Apple! You're not winning hearts and minds with that one.

So glad I bought a 15 Plus and didn't pay the Pro tax for features I don't use. I'll wait until the AI features trickle down to cheaper models in about a year (like Dynamic Island did).
As if Apple ever cared about whether their actions are shameful or not, or moral high ground is ever something Apple pursued at any point…

Just wait for the feature to be tricked down like you said. No harm is done Either way. All you need is to wait 1-2 more years.

you pay for the device in it's current form when you buy it.
Yeah, if ONLY Apple never nagged users to update its software or check updates automatically And produce red dots on settings app that can’t get rid of unless updating the software. If there’s ever an MDM to let me control when the update is installed, I’d use it. But there’s none.
People make the mistake of thinking they are entitled to all future enhancements and updates, but in reality they aren't
Yeah they aren’t, until you realise companies have conditioned users to keep their software up to date, regardless of the hardware capability where The updated software is installed on. Update update update and oh snap I miss out on new features!?

Apple didn't allow Siri on the iPhone 4, only the 4S. Because it was too slow. Then jailbreakers were able to get the Siri running on the 4, saying it works on 4 and Apple is just forcing this limitation to sell more phones. Then people tried using it on the 4, and it was garbage, super slow, didn't respond, didn't have the power needed for a good experience. Just because some can run on older hardware doesn't mean it's good at running on older hardware.

Also with the recent AI device that were released that had horrible reviews, and made some companies go under because of them, I think Apple would rather limit the AI to the best hardware to avoid those reviews. Make lots of money be selling new hardware is just a bonus.
Amazing it was “too slow” yet worked fine as an app before apple bought it. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid, they love customers like you who buy into their BS hook, line, and sinker.

Luckily Apple also supports devices for 6+ years with updates, sure you can't get every new feature on every device.. But you still get most new features and all security updates and base OS support.

On Android you'd be lucky if the device you buy will get one new major release. Or even that it will run the newest version of Android.
A quick Google search shows that isn’t the case on android anymore. Both Google and Samsung (the two major players on android) support devices 4+ years. Also, I never said to expect to get every feature but to limit it to just the newest and last generation is laughable (the 14 pro and probably even 13 series) has plenty of power under the hood to handle these things.

It will most likely get everything but AI.

The reason is clearly related to the neural engine performance and making most features offline/on-device, because generating text and images can take quite a lot of time and become frustrating in the end. Even with these huge servers, I find myself getting frustrated at ChatGPT and DALL-E. I had bought an image generator on my M1 iMac and it was so long to generate (1-2 minutes) that I uninstalled it.
Maybe you’ll need a snapdragon X elite with windows co pilot for that. Apple is making it tempting to switch if this all is true. I’ll wait for WWDC to see what the future holds. But if Timmy is using this as an excuse to take more money from customers he has passed the line for me. I’ll bet google and Microsoft don’t have these large demands and their software will run just fine on older devices. It all depends on WWDC 2024 for me. Enough is enough Timmy!

Considering Apple’s history of launching something significantly new, e.g. Apple Maps, Music or Stage Manager I would not worry about it for at least another year. Also, the most widely used iPhone model worldwide as of now is iPhone 13 (ChatGPT numbers), and I seriously doubt it that everybody with a lesser than iPhone 15 Pro model would have a sudden urge to upgrade. I mean, it will take it at least a year for an average iPhone user to realise they are “missing out” on something potentially fancy.
Or switch to the other side where google is offering their pixel phones or Samsung. I’m done with the endless pipeline of Timmy. Apple is slow, greedy and not placing its customers first. WWDC will be a make or brake with Apple and their greedy behavior for me.

Considering I've yet to see a single thing about AI I'm actually interested in .... I'm not too worried here

Should be some great deals on preowned phones!

It looks like my venerable iPhone XR will be able to run iOS 18 but probably not the fancy AI. Excellent. Another reason to hold on to it.

This is different.
It will require a HELL of a good neural engine. Trust me, with larger language models, you don't want Siri to suddenly take 30s-1min to answer. You want it to be instant.

Or buy any Android phone with Gemini but your requests will all go online and you will be the product.
Apple uses your data the same way google does. Privacy is a buzz word introduced by Apple to let you think it’s safe. Pure Apple marketing.

I’ll wait for wwdc to see what the future holds. If it’s true what’s being said I’ll have a definite breakup with greedy Timmy and their gang of crooks

Fail. Apple's goal should be good customer experience
Good customer experience..... In order to increase repeat customers and increase sales... It all comes back to making more money despite what you may think or how they present themselves.

I wonder what this means for AI integrations on Apple TV via Siri. New AppleTV perhaps that can handle it? I assume this will also have an impact on Homekit (one of the few applications that I think AI would be a massive plus).

I'm due for an upgrade, therefore I'll be getting a regular 16 (moving from a 13) in September.
That said I'm not too much of a smartphone power user.
I'd be more interested in knowing what I can achieve on macOS.

A sandbox app it completely different than a system level thing, that interacts with entire system. And it was much slower on iPhone4 almost unusable, are you saying that Apple intentionally made it run slower on the iPhone4 knowing that someone would install it on a jailbroken phone, and not disable there "intentional" slowdowns?

Ok so ONE feature allegedly unavailable on most devices, suddenly those devices stops working entirely? That’s brand new to me.
No not one feature. It’s is the most important feature giving you endless possibilities and is able to help everyone. It would be a big mistake only to introduce it with the 15pro and up. There will be an exodus from iPhone to Android if Apple neglect their existing base. Why did they always mention and brag about their bionic processors if they are not capable to find use for it?

You can't reason with these people. Your best option is to hit the ignore button as they pop up, so you never again have to see their content-free opinions.

Of course we have been through this before. Live Text features have never been available on an iPhone before the XS models (because they need 2nd gen ANE or later).
Look at the comments in eg

Same cluelessness about hardware (utter ignorance of the difference between the Lattice Semi neural processor in the iPhone X and the ten times higher higher performance ANE in the iPhone XS), same cluelessness about the actual software details, same insistence that it's all fake, all just a cash grab, same claims that it's just "Apple copying other software".

And yet life went on. The stupid will always be with us. All you can do is mute them.

Almost likely cheating people on batteries
