iOS 26 Beta 1 ― Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements

I hope there isn’t… I hated what iOS 18 did with the Photos App. It’s a relief they kinda reversed the changes on 26.

It's basically the same as in iOS 18, accept its better in that there's a separate tab at the bottom for your library of Photos. I hate the iOS Photos app redesign, and I find this version of it more usable... All the new redesigned iOS 18 stuff is still there in its own tab.

Always a tough wait for beta 2. Which will more than likely be another week, since Apple already shipped a revised beta 1.

Yeah, look for beta 2 to drop either on the 23rd or the 24th, with beta 3 dropping in Week #23. Public Beta will most likely drop mid July, maybe earlier with B3?

For those of you who have Windows on your PC, 3utools has been updated today to support iOS 26. The compatible version is 3.26.
I updated my phone with the ipsw file and noticed significantly less heat and battery drain. Maybe it's just a placebo effect, but it's welcome, hehe.

it'll be really interesting what changes and gets refined in the UI. At this moment feels like there is A LOT that needs to be done to be ready for prime time

That’s why you should use genuine battery from Apple, not some cheap 3rd party battery 🙈

I used an authorized Apple Repair provider and wasn't aware they used a third-party battery until the settings app started nagging me about it. So, it can happen even when you think you're getting an OEM component.

This beta fixes the issue when you use the “one more / 15 more minutes” after reaching screen time limit for Instagram/TikTok where the audio doesn’t come back on for at least 5 seconds.

Please create a calendar event. It should have a start time more than 15 minutes ago and last a few hours past the current time.

Does that event show in the Calendar widget? It's bugged me since widgets were a thing that it removes events that started more than 15 minutes ago even if they're still current. (I currently use a third party app to get what I want.)

iOS and MacOS have the same issue, so feel free to try on either one.

Could others confirm that iOS 26 is actually updating applications automatically now?

This morning I checked my application list expecting to have to manually kick off an update of countless apps showing that updates have been available for a couple of days…

FYI… my 16 PM charges overnight and is on WiFi at that time…

Auto updates have always worked since they were introduced. There is a default threshold set for updates (2+ weeks?) before an app is automatically updating on your device (over night with phone plugged into power outlets). Developers can override and extend that, they can also stagger updates based on audience / region.

People keep saying it‘s broken when it isn‘t. No, auto-updates are not meant to run every night for every app.

Source: me, iOS app developer and the Apple Genius of my large family and social circle, setting up devices for everyone and making sure things work (so I have first hand experience with auto-updates working via e.g. relatives devices, whose owners don‘t even know what app updates are or where to manually perform them).

EDIT: Ah, it has no end-time! I guess it's a reminder rather than an event. I don't use reminders with date/time but it's good to know that if I change my workflow they do stay visible.

That feels kind of broken, irregardless of grammar/semantics.

If Apple takes about a week to approve an update and then it doesn't get pushed me to me for 2+ weeks, that is a long time to be behind on my version.

But it seems to be working faster now if nothing else. They have seemingly rejiggered the threshold and re-emphasized timely updates. I normally do a pull to refresh and mass update every morning before I leave the house, but Word, Excel, and PowerPoint updated last night without any prompt needed on my end. And I had just updated Audible manually over the weekend, so there was no other updates available for me prior to Sunday evening.

I’ve set one for an event to start at 19:45 and end at 23:45. I’ll keep an eye on it and let you know if it disappears before the end time.

I don't have reminders showing in my calendar, as I don't use the reminders app for timed things. However, I'm curious now whether they stay visible all the time until you dismiss it. I'm going to check what iOS 18 does!

Maybe it could be a setting? I work 13.33 hour shifts and I prefer that calendar event disappear after 15 minutes because, well, I don’t need to be reminded all day that I’m there.

Makes sense for shorter events though.
