I have a feeling it’s gonna be more minor of a redesign than people expect
Same, I am expecting to be disappointed. Heaven forbid companies ever give consumers what they want.

Edit: I am hoping for stage manager on external displays for iPhone.

PLEASE and thank you!!!! if there's any feature Apple needs to take from Android, it's this one. I will gladly sell my S24U if this comes. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
This would bring tears of joy from me lol. I've been asking for this for years. I use it all the time on my work galaxy

If it's just a name, that's fine. But Gurman has already said the focus will be converging all the OSes so they look and feel the same, so I don't think you will find many distinctions anymore. I don't expect them to all be the same on day one, but by iOS 27 or 28, maybe we just have One OS to Rule Them All.
Oh sure, I’m sure of that, I just like the sseparate naming, and I’m sure there will be remaining distinctions in UI optimizations and such since the iPad has a larger display. Even the largest foldable iPhone would likely be around iPad Mini sized. 👍🏻

I had the opposite (hopefully false) prediction that they'll just rename every operating system to iOS.
There were rumors a few years back (when rumors were spreading of Mac’s moving to Apple Silicon) that Apple was going to unify all of their platforms under one “AppleOS”. While I don’t think Apple will be unifying them completely under one name like that, that is basically what seems to be happening. All of the OSes will feel more like one, while retaining the benefits of independent OSes that can be fully optimized for the different hardware platforms. It will be interesting to see how this unification ends up moving in the future. 👍🏻

A few of the things I’m excited and hopeful to see, not particularly in order of priority:

- Menu Bar for iPad.
- More system apps like Journal, Preview, FontBook, etc. (looks like Preview is coming).
- Improved Home Screen design, hopefully with easier ability to pin files, folders, notes etc. like we currently can do with websites in Safari (systemwide “Add to Home Screen” option).
- Stage Manager improvements.
- New UI design revamp with frosted glass elements (hopefully with somewhat neumorphic app icons similar to ones currently on macOS, but likely a bit different design). Possibly accompanied by a custom icon picker in the “Customize” menu.
- Note color tagging in the Notes app. (Haven’t seen any rumors about it, but it could come).
- More system apps improvements for system apps like Files, Safari, etc.

I can’t believe we’re only a few hours out!!! I’m so excited! I’m really hoping to be able to watch the keynote live, but I probably won’t know until last minute. 👍🏻

I saved a local backup of my iPad last night, so I’m ready to go and install the beta when it drops! 👍🏻

Is the release of the first beta expected, or am I just getting my hopes up?
Yes, usually Apple drops the first developer beta after the keynote. Note, installing this beta requires a developer account, a free developer account has worked for the past couple of years, so you should be able to install it as long as you have a free developer account. 👍🏻

Since when? It didn't for iOS 18. Did I miss a headline?
The developer betas require a developer account as far as I’m aware, but anyone can get a free developer account, and that should work. Public Betas are separate beta releases that anyone can install without a Developer account, but today’s release will likely be a Developer beta, and public betas usually come at least a couple weeks after WWDC. That’s at least how I understand it, maybe I’m wrong. 🤷🏼‍♂️👍🏻

It did, but with ios 18 they introduced a free tier developer account, so you no longer had to pay...But you were still required to sign up for a developer account
Yeah, and I may add, they first added Developer Beta support for the free Developer account at the beginning of the iOS 17 beta cycle, I know because that was the first beta cycle I participated in, and I set up a free developer account to do it. That was part of the reason I hopped on that one. 👍🏻

That's all Greek to me. I have no developer account and have been on developer betas for a couple years now.
Maybe you got the profile online and installed one, and then kept installing new ones from that? I don’t know, but developer betas sourced from Apple in the Settings app definitely officially require a free or paid developer account.

I used to just grab the profile back in the day, it was pretty easy to google it and get lol.
Stopped with 16.4

No profiles installed.

Maybe I enrolled and forgot. I enrolled for betas, but I don't think I ever enrolled as a developer. I still see both channels whenever I go to check for updates. I never installed the Developer app.

Yeah, I think that’s it, cause I looked it up, and this is what the Apple Developer page says:

PS. Developer app definitely isn’t required, I didn’t install that until sometime in the iOS 18 cycle, you just have to sign into the Developer web app, which is essentially the same as the native app, but it’s a website. If you sign into it once with your AppleID, then that’s all it takes, so probably you had signed in at some point. 👍🏻
