My last minute guess:

The name "iOS" will die alongside the switch to "year-based" versioning.
It will become "iPhone OS" again, matching iPad OS, watchOS, visionOS etc.

There's only 4 things that I really really want:

- Ability to add more than 4 icons on the dock

- more calendar widget options, specifically i like the fantastical widget that shows full month and list side by side

- more widget interaction. Like on some 3rd party widgets I'd like to touch, select and scroll right from the widget... not sure if that's an apple limitation or the developer

- and last but not least true multi tasking, I should be able to open 2 apps at once on a pro max size screen

A few more hours to go

my prediction:

new icon glints and glimmers will be optimized to only run well on iphone 16 and newer, to 'motivate' new hardware sales.

throughout beta, everyone will say its just the beta code making it run choppy. then it will launch just as choppy and everyone will say 'lol thats what you get for running a phone more than 1 year old'

More likely that iPadOS dies. Foldables will make it so that when you open your phone, you have an iPad. So the OSes will need to merge again. Might as well do it today and pave the way for the future. This would bring split-screen and stage manager to the phones, which was already rumored for external displays.

That could be the reason nothing has “leaked” yet.
yeah tbh i just expect the "redesign" to be nothing more than glass buttons where the buttons are now lol.

Their most important app, Messages, still continues to look as dated and boring as always.

I hope not, I like the distinction between iPadOS and iOS. Luckily, I think they will keep them named separately. 👍🏻

We’ll see in a few hours, but all of the reports that have come in specifically say the changes will go beyond a mere paint job, and options will likely be moved and consolidated.

If it's just a name, that's fine. But Gurman has already said the focus will be converging all the OSes so they look and feel the same, so I don't think you will find many distinctions anymore. I don't expect them to all be the same on day one, but by iOS 27 or 28, maybe we just have One OS to Rule Them All.
