So an app that passed all of the reviews up front that didn’t contain any malware could inject malware after it was installed, and without any safeguards to prevent it. So JIT is a very big security risk, even though it can be useful.
It’s possible there could be some secure way to allow it in a restricted way, but what I’m saying is that it would require lots of work and need to be well-thought out to make sure it wouldn’t pose a significant threat to security. Sandboxing can certainly help, and apps in iOS are already sandboxed to an extent. But sandboxing isn’t a completely foolproof way of preventing it from doing harm as I’m aware. It could still pose some threats even with sandboxing from what I can tell.I'm not knowledgeable on this type of stuff, would there be a way for them to allow it (based on approval) in a sort of sandbox or "walled garden" for lack of better term? Or would that basically defeat the purpose of JIT and that's how it operates now?
As I said before, I think it’s likely possible to implement in a more secure way, I just think it will take a lot of consideration and effort on Apple’s part to ensure it maintains their high security standards. 👍🏻
Never have and never will. Rightly so.So it'll probably just stay on our wishlists for a while since there's no way Apple will do all that work to give us more freedom by their own will lol
This aged like fine wine.I predict some of the AI features that were intended for iOS 18 will be pushed back to iOS 19. And hopefully they prioritize system optimizations and speed. It’s been a while since we’ve had an update like that. The keyboard lags every once in a while in Safari.
It didn’t. Nowhere in that quote did they say the features would be pushed back to iOS 19. They merely said they had been pushed back. We still have most of a year worth of iOS 18 updates, it would likely drop in a later iOS 18 update like 18.5, 18.6, 18.7, etc. This aged like fine wine.
But if the features are delayed until 2026, wouldn’t most iPhone 16 owners already be updated to iOS 19 by that point? It didn’t. They said nothing about 2026. They said the features would be delayed to sometime later than expected this year (2025). That’s well within the iOS 18 update cycle…But if the features are delayed until 2026, wouldn’t most iPhone 16 owners already be updated to iOS 19 by that point?

No it doesn’t… It means within the next year starting today. The article you’re referencing doesn’t agree with your interpretation…“The coming year” means the year after the current one.
I’m looking forward to this thread getting back to iOS 19 speculation instead of complaining about Apple Intelligence rollout…Looking forward to seeing a commercial where Bella Ramsey uses her iPhone 18 to ask questions to Siri on iOS 20.
Wait, what do you mean they shot and aired those commercials last fall?

I do think it’s noteworthy that they switched their language from “the coming months” to “the coming year” though 🤷♂️No it doesn’t… It means within the next year starting today. The article you’re referencing doesn’t agree with your interpretation…
That’s fine, but nowhere did they say that the features are delayed back into 2026. They very well could come in 18.5, 18.6, 18.7, etc. 👍🏻I do think it’s noteworthy that they switched their language from “the coming months” to “the coming year” though 🤷♂️
I hope you’re right. But at the very least, this confirmed the reports that they ran into issues with engineering these features, so we can put that to bed. That’s fine, but nowhere did they say that the features are delayed back into 2026. They very well could come in 18.5, 18.6, 18.7, etc. 👍🏻
I agreed that the features have likely been delayed. I just think there’s still more chance we’ll see these features rollout in 18.5, 18.6, 18.7, etc. than in 19. I could be wrong, but nothing in this statement from this Apple spokesperson leads me to believe that we are waiting until 2026. If they knew they were running into that big of a delay, I would think Apple would have made an official announcement and changed the wording on the official page so that it’s not still promising these features in “coming months”. Like I said, maybe I’m wrong, I just wouldn’t rush to panic and doomsday just yet. 😉👍🏻I hope you’re right. One thing I hope is that the focus of iOS 19 ISN'T Apple Intelligence. There are so many more things they could be working on.I’m looking forward to this thread getting back to iOS 19 speculation instead of complaining about Apple Intelligence rollout…
Yeah, totally agree about improvements to springboard, spotlight, and the App Library. And an icon picker could be nice. I don’t understand that last part though, iOS looks nothing like Windows XP. And I think iOS does look professional and consistent. One thing I hope is that the focus of iOS 19 ISN'T Apple Intelligence. There are so many more things they could be working on.
I want springboard/spotlight/app library to get a complete rework.
I still want to be able to move an icon anywhere without my whole homescreen moving around.
I want an actual icon picker instead of this tinting stuff or using shortcuts as a workaround.
I want to be able to rename apps.
I want splitscreen on phones.
I want an RSS app.
I want a more professional and consistent look to the whole OS rather than this Windows XP blue/green stuff everywhere that looks both childish and old.
And RCS that is encrypted and just works.
iOS looks nothing like Windows XP. And I think iOS does look professional and consistent.
Meanwhile I don't even like using the dark icons in iOS 18 because it turns a lot of icons into similar looking black squares that are harder to identify at a glance. That level of minimalism might not be for me. 😆Depends on your definition of professional.
The icons in iOS are too big and too bright (lots of blues and greens, as I said). It reminds me a lot of the Windows XP Start button and default theme. I want something more like watchOS or visionOS. Something minimal and clean.
I have pointed out a few times my love for the Android launcher Niagra. It's very minimal, but still has some very information-dense widgets, lock screen notifications, and a lot of customization options.

When scrolling, the letters flow like in watchOS list view.

It doesn't bombard you with a lot of colors. In fact, you can just replace all icons with simple dots.

I'm not saying this is the best path for Apple to take with a redesign, but it fits my aesthetic nicely.

Ok, but if you don’t like the colors of the icons, the icon tinting feature in iOS 18 fixes that. As to size, I think they’re the right size to be easily touchable. But maybe they could add more icon sizes. 👍🏻Depends on your definition of professional.

It can mean either the next calendar year or the next year of duration.“The coming year” means the year after the current one.
