If it’s true that the more ChatGPT-like conversational Siri will miss iOS 19, that’s disappointing. I’d rather they get it right than rush it, but Apple had lots of opportunities to improve Siri. ChatGPT integration helps, but it still has lots of flaws.
The rumor is that the conversational Siri will be not be in iOS 18 but will be in 19, though not in the first few releases.

There's been an update to that-

Gurman said Apple is no longer planning to unveil the more conversational Siri at WWDC 2025 in June this year, and it appears that the feature is no longer on track to launch as part of iOS 19.4 in March or April next year. Instead, he said that some Apple software engineers believe that the Siri overhaul will not launch until at least iOS 20.

Do you guys really talk about what you referring to?

Or do you mean on screen awareness of Siri?
If that, that will come with iOS 18.5 …

Did they even say it’ll come within iOS 18?
I only remember that they talked about on screen awareness
Good question.
While I do not have insight into that question I don’t much care about conversational AI. I’d much rather it is integrated into the OS to assist me with being productive.

Yeah, hopefully Siri onscreen awareness and such should ship in 18.5. The more conversational Siri was just a rumored feature in iOS 19, and that’s now rumored to be delayed.

A greater level of colour variance in icon customisation would be nice. There is still a 'dark filter' over the top of what should be pastel shades which is a shame. I'd quite like a light icon option as well which makes the icon silhouettes black and lets us control the icon backdrop colour. Yes, just like on Pixel!

I kind of hope Apple go to town with the Glassmorphic/Vision Pro look to iOS. The camera app preview looked really nice but it needs to be OS-wide. I'm talking about frosted glass backdrop options for all the widgets (not just battery), pop-up menus and the like. Heck, a frosted backdrop option for the icons to replace the black on the dark icons would, with the right wallpaper look fantastic.

For once and for all, PLEASE let us add time to existing timers. This is so basic.

And also, let us create timers and alarms across devices. On my Mac, I should be able to say "Siri, set my alarm at 6am on my iPhone". But you can only set it on the device you make the request on.
I think it’s obvious that those that make the decisions to add certain features never use the software they’re in charge of.

So I found out that you can add time to existing timers. But you have to specify the exact timer you want to add it to. Which makes sense if you’re running multiple timers at the same time.

But if you’re running just one timer, you can’t just say “add 5 minutes to my timer”. You need to remember how long you originally set the timer for, then say “add 5 minutes to my 15 minute timer”. Which is annoying.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when you say “hey Siri, what’s the temperature outside?” and it responds with “you need to unlock your iPhone first”. They need to fix that with iOS 19.

You can put the weather on the lock screen and it shows it without unlocking your iPhone. But sometimes I have my phone in my pocket and I want Siri to read it to me.

Are your weather location services set to always?

I figured out a fix for that issue. 👍🏻. You can go to Privacy & Security in the Settings app, go to Location Services, and select Siri from the list of apps/services and select “While Using the App”. Also allow location services to “Always” on the weather app. Then it works. I hope that’s helpful. 👍🏻

It wasn’t, but I turned it on and that didn’t work.

This fixed it! It’s a shame that there are certain very basic things that require these types of workarounds. I mean, asking Siri for the weather is almost as basic as it gets.

Glad it worked out for you.

Awesome, glad to hear it is working. 👍🏻 I think it requires those settings to be allowed, since it has to use your location data to determine your location so it can get the weather for your location. It’s not as much of a workaround as much as just a privacy setting. I understand though that it can be annoying. 👍🏻

And I get that. But I feel like Apple’s software has gotten a little less intuitive. Like they should at least put a message saying “this setting needs to be turned on, here’s a button to get to that setting”, or something like that. And the fact that you can’t add time to a timer unless you specifically say how many minutes were originally on it, even if you only have one timer running. That’s kinda lame.

Several things..

Probably said a million times, but far and away the biggest for me, a universal systemwide back gesture a la android. This would make life so much easier. Eg swipe from the right of the screen with my thumb. I’ve just gotten stuck viewing an image attachment in Telegram as it had gone full screen and there was no way out except swipe out entirely to the home screen, close the app, then reopen. I’m right handed and if holding one handed I can’t reach far enough to swipe from the left, in say settings. Regularly having to go to either top left or right to click some button in an app is jarring and inconsistent, in fact the whole thing is ridiculous for an os that’s meant to be intuitive and user friendly.

Not v likely to happen, but an accessible file system.

Browsers other than those based solely on Safari. I need ublock origin and sponsorblock in my life as it’s extremely difficult to tolerate browsing without them after using for even a short period. I know there’s Hush and various blocking addons for safari, and the Orion browser, but they simply don’t work correctly/fully.

I don’t get it, iOS already has a system-wide back gesture. You just swipe from the left side of the phone to the right, and it takes you back a page.

I agree. It works in most places I use and is not something I even think about.
