I don’t like round icons because they can roll off your screen.

hehe that’s a good one😁

Anyway iOS 18 I believe was meant to have the visionOS redesign but contrary to what people have said why it didn’t get it Apple Intelligence isn’t the reason.

The Real reason is the 7th Gen iPad. No way Apple will redesign iPadOS VisionOS Style for an A10 Device (and the last supported dual core device withnin the iPhone/iPad/Mac family because A10’s 4 cores don’t run at the same time) and because budget iPads besides the base OS they came out with have maximum 5 Major iPadOS Updates (which may change with the 9th Gen iPad) the 7th Gen iPad had to get iPadOS 18 against Apple’s wishes ( it should have been released with A12).

but definitely believe that iOS/iPadOS 19 will get this redesign with a device using an A12 or later.

Why because A12 is superior. And because we all know Apple will support the 8th Gen iPad with iPadOS 19 and that iPad is the last iDevice after 7th Gen iPad that came out with 32GB of storage. All other A12 and A12X devices were released with 64GB of storage

So that’s it. Too bad iPhone X users won’t get this update. A11 Bionic could easily handle a visionOS redesign. A10X
Maybe but like iOS 7’s redesign it’s all about the CPU ( hence why A12 is the minimum and Apple wouldn’t want to repeat iPhone 4 style when A4 SoC tolerated iOS 7.0 but was steering into iPhone 3G iOS 4.0 territory back then)

EDIT: I hope anyone can reply to this theory 😁

Ouch!

“He also reportedly said it’s not a given that the missing Siri features will make it into iOS 19 this year; that’s the company’s current target, but “doesn’t mean that we’re shipping then,” he told employees.“

Speed to achieve should not be the concern. Apple has always had a reputation of being behind in technological advances because they usually build things better. They build them for their ecosystem and for their users, not to keep up with the neighbors. So far that strategy has worked.

Exactly. I’m glad that they didn’t just do what the other tech companies do and throw the features out there in an unfinished state. Honestly, even a 60-80% correct rate is probably better than the state some other companies have thrown there features out with, but still would likely be disappointing. It would have been easy for Apple to avoid all the tantrum throwing and hit pieces from some in the tech media by just succumbing to the pressure and dropping the features in a lesser state, but Apple is doing the right thing by working on improving the features and getting it right before they release them rather than rushing it with an incomplete and less accurate version. I actually respect Apple more for the way they’ve handled this, it shows they actually care more about delivering a good quality experience for customers than rushing out something with issues to appease some of the vocal tech pundits. 👍🏻

WWDC is going to be really interesting. There is no chance they are going to over-promise again. And with no timetable other that “when it’s done” they might not even mention Siri during the keynote. I expect the visual improvements to do most of the talking for them and a much smaller “bento box” of features.

It will be what they want it to be; no more, no less.

I completely agree with Bridget carries take…
This part especially jumped out to me…
“just two weeks ago, Amazon showed off the Alexa+ AI chat bot as being so smart, it could book an Uber for a friend named Molly at JFK airport…
… I’m sorry, where’s Molly? Who is picking her up? Which car is it?
This was not in the example shown to us.
They are hiding the real work that you still need to put in, because Molly has no idea where to meet this person, or who they are. Maybe Molly is going to get into a strangers Van, and you’ll never see Molly again, so you better cancel the lunch plans.”

She’s obviously exaggerating for a comedic effect, but it’s true.
And even Amazon’s Alexa+ page has a disclaimer all the way at the bottom that says something along the lines of “ features Will roll out over the next year”, just like Apple.

Rumors are really starting to look like the redesign is happening, very exciting!

One positive note for us squircle fans, an early leak for iPadOS 19 indicates that iPadOS 19 will be able to pin files to the Home Screen, and it came along with a picture. This rumor makes a lot of sense considering how the Home Screen and Desktop have become more similar and will probably become even more unified with a redesign. But the included photo shows a squircle icon for the file. Also note the translucent background, which is different from the black background iOS 18 currently adds behind icons, yet matches the rumored translucent UI elements in iPadOS 19 and iOS 19. 👍🏻

Also, note that the Status Bar in the top right seems to show a new battery indicator icon, like the one currently used on the iPhone to show battery percentage. Very interesting indeed. 👍🏻

Also, the source has proven pretty reliable in recent history, citing exact specs for the iPhone 16e and correctly leaking the name change long before when people still were calling it the SE 4th Gen. Given the sources reliability of late, and the obvious sense this change makes with the rumored OS changes being meant to make using Apple’s platforms more consistent and unified, I think this is very likely. 👍🏻

While it’s possible the photo is faked, I think this rumor is pretty plausible overall, and so I don’t have an immediate reason to assume it’s faked, especially also taking in consideration the sources accuracy and reliability on other matters as well. 👍🏻

Grumpy today. If round icons are 'innovation' Apple is devolving further. More importantly, using the Vision Pro OS (a failed product) is a bizarre idea.

As I said though, there’s a pretty good chance squircle icons will stay in place. None of the leaks so far have indicated circle icons, just a few people speculating who want the circle icons.

Also, I wouldn’t go so far as to say the Vision Pro is a “failed product”. It was never meant to reach iPhone level sales or anything. It’s a niche “early adopter” device, and it is selling accordingly. 👍🏻

It's going to be more than just more transparency and different icons. But I don't think Gurman or anyone else has seen a working version of anything, so all he can do is give his predictions based on how Apple's more modern OSes look. I wouldn't take any educated guesses he throws out between now and June as an actual rumor.

I think this offers a clue as to what some elements of iOS 19 will look like. I think we’re already seeing some clues in the new additions in 18. Note the light edge around the little suggestions above Siri, and the somewhat frosted transparent look. macOS already features some of these things, like app windows have a bit of highlighting around the edges. I’m guessing macOS and iPadOS will get highlights around the edge of the app windows. 👍🏻

Me personally I would love to see round icons - but just a few months left and we will all see, because in the end Apple decides what we will have to adopt to over the next year(s) 😅

Reposting my wishlist from the other thread…
My hopes are semi-high for the RCS changes I listed with Apple announcing upcoming support for UP3.0 … semi-high only, because Apple is Apple and will surely find a way to twist this in a nasty way to users end up suffering in some form.

I assume the carriers would then all need to update their stuff again. Took me six months to get RCS on Mint, so I am not holding out hope for a quick update.

None of the carriers host any RCS servers, this is purely clientside on iOS. Responsibility lies with Google to get Jibe updated.

As far as icons go, what I want way more than anything is an option for smaller icons and an extra row. I think circles could be a refreshing change, but I won’t be disappointed if that doesn’t happen.

I wonder when Apple will take what MS did for their Lumia series (continuum) and add something similar to the iPhone.
Not saying it should be MacOS (even though it would have been nice) but something nicely packaged that just works Apple style.

I mean you can hook up the camera on the Apple TV, the iPad has something that's a bit like continuum.
Maybe Apples future foldable device can be the "all in one" device, iPhone, iPad and the ability to dock into a USB-C dock. But that's prob beyond iOS 19, the foldable is more likely iOS 20 or a new "foldable" specific OS.

If split-screen multitasking comes to iPhone with the folding iPhone (which really seems essential when you have a screen that is double-width) then I could totally see some kind of dock solution for smaller phones where you just bring your own KVM and run Stage Manager on your phone but on a bigger screen. That's probably more iOS 20 or later, though.

I hope we will get rounded icons 🙏
Looks really nice !
And Apple does what Apple does, no matter what we say, their analysis maybe told them to do a big overhaul and round icons is the next big thing for them - I mean visionOS looks pretty dann nice!

It's not exactly the same, but check out InfiniteX2P. Basically lets you use web apps on an external screen. I briefly considered switching over 100% to this along with a Nexdock as most of my laptop use cases are web based. I haven’t tried it with my 13 Mini, but works great with my 14 Pro. I assume it would work even better with USB-C iPhones, as lightning phones are limited in their resolution output.
