I'm using Beejive and it seems to be working on iOS4.0 with the most recent update - push notifications are the way we're being alerted though, and it definitely looks like fast-app switching is there, saving the state of conversations etc to return to.

It would be nice though if they did confirm it was 4.0 supported and what if any multi-tasking was supported.

It works in 4, sure, but mine does not save state. It has to launch and load each time I switch over to it. In fact, no IM app has updated to work with multitasking yet and it's annoying me to no end.

Tweet from Spotify - OS4 multitasking update officially submitted to Apple, yay!!! Hope it's approved ASAP and I can then download all my playlists for offline listening again. :D

Splash screens have gotten increasingly more aggravating since OS4 was released. Hope we see a lot more fast-user switch updates this week...BBC News not including it in theirs today is pretty lame.

Enjoy Sudoku was updated earlier in the week with retina display graphics and save-state multitasking. This developer is fast with the updates... it's universal too, so works with iPad.

I sat next to this developer a few weeks ago on a flight from Chicago to Houston. Great guy. Sitting next to him made for one of the best flights I've ever had.

ooTunes has been updated for multitasking. I was excited about this update because I listen to Sirius everyday on my iPhone and the official app has only had one update since it was released and that was back in November so I don't see a multitasking update coming anytime soon. I've seen some other people in this topic waiting for SiriusXM to update their app so I wanted to say that there are plenty of radio apps that let you listen to SiriusXM so use one of those if you have one that has been updated until the official app can multitask.

Beejive now supports multitasking and I iPhone 4 optimized with retina display!!!!!

Review: it loads faster and you receive a push notification if the message received but load up time is a lot faster then before, but it only opens back up to the chat if you have it open, any other menu doesn't save state. Unless your in a chat it will open up to your buddies list.

Osfoora for Twitter updated to 1.4.1, supports fast app switching in iOS4, runs great, replaced the official Twitter app now :)

Thank god! All the apps I use regularly are finally updated.

So when an app like Beejive has true backgrounding, does it take up more battery or does it just save the state it was in when switched or closed?

It saves the state of the chat that's open, and refreshes the chats once you go back to it. Has been pretty quick so far . . .

ok so my app didn't update properly. It opens up with save state, but when you switch to a new screen and leave then when you load up beejive it loads the loading screen for like a second then will "save state" on that new screen

Not just that, but their blog has a bit more:

"We know that many of you have been waiting for an update to our iPhone app that supports the latest iOS 4 and background listening. We’re happy to say that an updated app has been submitted to Apple for review. Hopefully we’ll get a speedy approval and to make up for the extra little wait time we’ve added a nice little surprise to make Spotify mobile even more exciting for you, stay tuned!"

Wonder what that is!

Wikipanion supports iOS 4.0 multitaasking and is optimized for the iPhone 4

Yeah I have been watching the AppStore like a hawk hah.

looks like lastfm has been updated for iOS4. Can anyone confirm for me that this means multitasking? I don't yet have an iPhone 4 but will tomorrow so I'll finally get to try out multitasking!

It does indeed mean multitasking, both fast app switching and background audio.

Edit; having played with it some more there is a bug that makes it almost unusable when in the background. Pausing the background audio from the player controls in the multitasking interface closes the currently playing library, unpausing will play music from the iPod from the point it was last paused; and opening the app brings it back to the home screen, rather than the previously playing library. In fact, if the now playing screen isn't being displayed when the app is closed to the background, Last.fm doesn't even show up in the music controls. Hopefully this is something developers will be able to fix this in the near future.

Yep noticed that when I installed it, looks like it can't have gone through much testing it was the first thing I tried.
