How about a swipe at the bottom of the screen like how one would swipe at the top of the screen for SBSettings on a jailbroken phone? Nice concept btw, I do quite like it.

I thought of that as well, but if you noticed with notification center, playing games that use the full screen sometimes causes the NC to come down mid-playing. Don't want to do that again with launchpad.

The better idea would be to get rid of the Spotlight, integrate it into the Notification Centre where it belongs and make the home button a switcher between the Launchpad and the Widgets homescreen.

And BTW, why is this a "MUST SEE!" ?

Personally I like it. It's somewhat Android ish but as I've and many have said, there are plenty of items from the Android OS that Apple could take and make better.

The notifications bar alone was ripped right from Android, but Apple made it a few steps better IMHO.

I still like the idea of seeing my weather/the time/my calendar/etc. right on one of the home screens. I shouldn't have to launch an app just to see what I am about to do in the next few hours. I shouldn't have to launch an app to see what the weather is going to be like, nor talk to Siri repeatedly.

Lastly, I hate to see pages upon pages of apps sprawled across my home screen; same thing with folders of apps. It's really quite tacky.

I hope to see Apple using more of this kind of design in iOS6 on an iPhone with a bigger screen and less of a bezel.

So let me get this straight... You want an iOS feature that emulates an OSX feature that emulates an iOS feature.

Thanks.

Yeah if we had a 4" screen it would be perfect for this concept, it looks better on my iPad 2 mockup then on this iPhone 4s.

Having a 4" inch screen would only help this feature if they bumped up the resolution in the bigger screen. I don't see Apple doing this because it would create a nightmare for the App Developers.

OK- I understand why the new resolution would be frustrating, but- if they keep the same aspect ratio, would it really be a "nightmare?" I mean, when they doubled to the retina display they simply scaled everything by 2x and gradually app developers added in the bitmap graphics as updates to their apps.

If apple went to a 4" screen, I would imagine they would go from a resolution of 960 by 640 to 1280 by 800, or maybe 1280 y 720, IF they increased the resolution. So the apps could just scale the native iOS graphics and stretch the bitmap graphics until developers upgrade their apps with, say, a "3x" extension...

I don't know- I just think that as long as the aspect ratio is maintained, unless I am missing something, it would not be a huge nightmare for developers.

I'm not entirely sure how it would work, but I've seen developers on this forum fretting about having to include 3 sets of bitmaps in their application for each resolution, I guess a dev would have to explain if the iPhone would be able to scale down the resolution of the graphics in the app.

It's not revolutionary. It's basically just the current iOS homescreen with a weather widget.

But, it is something I can actually see Apple doing. Launchpad coming to iOS is not a completely ridiculous idea, imo. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but nor would I be shocked if iOS looks like this one day.

Yup, one can only hope!

Thanks for the good idea, OP! It would be cool if iOS allowed for a certain degree of flexibility like this, but not go quite as far as android.

Do not like.
Do not want.

I don't need more steps between myself and my apps.

One extra tap on your homescreen is really exhausting, right? You realize with something like this we can have a settings widget eliminating the need to even go into settings for basic things like WiFi and Bluetooth.

I like the launch Pad idea. I don't really see the point of the Weather widget when they could easily have a "live" icon like the calendar one.

I prefer having my main screen full of icons so I can get to them easy. The others are on page two for a reason :D

Looks good though!

Once again, it's NOT the resolution bump thats the problem, it's the aspect ratio change that'd make it a nightmare

Hey, if I wanted an Android phone I'd get the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket 4G LTE (try to say that four times fast).

Why would anyone want 8 apps on their home screen? Sometimes I don't even feel like swiping over to the next 2 pages of apps I have, a setup like that would mean I'd be doing it all the time.

Though, I guess some people would like it.

Also, I still don't get why people need to check the weather every time they look at their phone with the omnipresent weather widget. Stick your head out the window.

Ah- well, at around 4", are there any screen resolutions in existing screen panels made that maintain the aspect ratio? I agree that the aspect ratio change would suck.

And, even if the screen was a non-standard resolution, someone would make it as he market just for the one new device would justify it. So if it does not exist, what would be the resolution it should be?

I don't get it either. The only time I can see the need to check the weather is in the morning,at night or if you're going on a trip somewhere. If its the later then there are much better apps that will give you a better view of what it will be like.

Having the weather in the NC is the perfect place. Out of the way but there when I need it.

If widgets are going to be in the next big update. They need to be scrollable in spotlight. I can't see anything that a widget could come in handy for that isn't already implemented in NC and especially NC that's jailbroken.

Android is horrible about organization. Yes ,4.0 fixes some of this with folders but it's still not up with iOS.

Launch pad is already on the iPhone. It's called the springboard. OSX emulates this with launch pad. Not the other way around.

If iOS 6 will look like this I won't upgrade to it!

Fortunately I pretty sure it won't.

Thank god this is only a concept, and not a real visual of what I'd like to see OS 6 to be. But it's pretty close.
