I much prefer the dots, easy to see at a glance.

Extended? Don't you mean Edge?
Given that the signal strength isn't all that meaningful in a lot of cases (since, for example, depending on the network, you can still often place calls just fine with even no bars/dots) seeing whether there are 3 bars/dots or 4 of them is practically meaningless in a lot of cases for a lot of people. Perhaps seeing something close to extremes might play a bit more of a role, but even with nice compact and standardized bars it's fairly easy to tell 0 or 1 (or even 2) bars from 5 or 4. The exact count is of much lesser importance (if really any at all) compared to the general gist of the overal strength.

----------

I now often get "Extended" signal when on my phone. I can imagine that the "LTE", "3G" or what ever symbol will be on top of the Notification Center bar in the lock screen.

I saw a screenshot of that happening to someone. And it looks awful and just...not Apple.
I bet it looks rather bad with the use of GPRS (when applicable) label there in iOS 7 now too (combined with the dots and some sort of longish carrier name).

Do not confuse your own opinion as fact. Just because you stare it is meaningless does not make it so. A couple of examples of usefulness is to see if I have enough signal to make a FaceTime call, as being on 2 bars 3G is a big difference to full bars. Additionally if my browsing slows, I know whether it's my signal or a glitch on my network. Also, if my call fails, I get an idea if it's my end at fault.

At least the GPRS text is more useful than the random dot. So many friends had no idea what that was

Don't have iOS7 Beta buy been lurking on here to see what to expect!

Can someone confirm something for me please?!

Currently, in iOS6, when you go into the Photos app, along the bottom, you have 'Albums', 'Photo Stream' and 'Places'.

In iOS 7, do the photos which you have placed into albums in iOS 6, stay sorted in their relevant albums or do they just get jumbled into that 'timeline' feature in iOS7 (I have created quite a few different albums and don't want them to all get jumbled together!!)?

You can easily tell the difference between 2 bars and full bars even with a glance. I guess it's great for some who might care and see something like dots before useful to them in some way, but not so much to those who don't and are perfectly happy with the standard bars that are used industry wide and don't take up extra space and bring any more attention to themselves than those people want to pay them.

As for GPRS (even though this isn't the aspect it's all about in this discussion) how many people have a clue as to what that even is, and how many will even mistakingly start thinking it might somehow even be GPS/location services related (and perhaps be even more confused).

The dots are much clearer at a glance, which is the obvious purpose. Again, you're dismissing that people care out of personal preference masquerading as fact.

GPRS is much better that a random dot, people who don't know what GPRS is can look it up online much easier than dot in status bar, to see what it is. Much less confusion

You'll be happy to know that your albums will carry over. On the bottom of the screen in iOS 7 you have "Photos" and "Albums." (I don't have photostream turned on, so that's probably why I don't see a "Photostream" button.)

I've just noticed that the cellular options are on the main settings page and not buried like in the past. And on my phone is says 'Mobile' rather than 'Cellular', which is definitely new, as we don't use the word cellular in the UK yet its always been called that on the iPhone.

Interesting, have you noticed any other instances of UK English cropping up? I see it's still Airplane Mode rather than Aeroplane Mode... Although I always though Flight Mode was a nicer term for that feature that would be consistent across the pond and here in the UK.

Aeroplane Mode wouldn't sound right IMO. Airplane is just fine for me and people know what it means, whereas Cellular is just confusing. It's a word we never use over here. Could Carrier be changed to Network? Or is that going too far?

Glad to see Apple making these localisation changes.

IOS 6.1.4 to IOS 7 beta 4

Hello,

I come here with this question:

My iphone 5 went to repair, and it had the IOS 7 beta 4, so before i took it to the store, i did the backup of all the content and later i did a downgrade to IOS 6.1.4. Now my iphone has arrived, but the current Beta is Beta 7, so my question is, how can i install the ios 7 in order to keep all my info and the latest beta and not brick my iphone?

Thank you for your time

Download the .ipsw and update through iTunes.

That's strange. My phone still says Cellular and I'm in the UK with a UK iPhone?

I don't understand what you mean by 'Extended' signal? Carriers need to shorten their names, or Apple need to make the text smaller.

----------

So I download the beta 4 ipsw, update through iTunes to beta 7 and then restore all my info(contacts, apps, images, etc) to my iphone?

Download the iOS 7 Beta 6 IPSW, update using iTunes, and then restore from backup.

There is no Beta 7.

Stange indeed. Are you on beta 6?

When I go into 'Mobile' it now says Mobile Data and not Cellular Data. Basically they have replaced the word Cellular with Mobile across settings.

Thank you so much, i've lost the count of the betas, my mistake. :D

Idk sometimes when Im having bad reception the "Sprint" name changes to "Extended" but briefly.

Just noticed this... When you scroll slowly through calendar in month view the next month is shown at the day it begins... When you scroll fast the name centres itself at the top...

So I have read through a ton of these pages and I may have missed this but I just found something VERY useful..

If you receive a text you can clear the lock screen. Just drop the notification bar and slide it back up and it's clear.

* I do have a complex pass code and turned off text notification in notification center.

Cool! I never noticed that. Thanks for pointing it out!

Handy quick view but disappointing you can't leave the calendar on that screen and use it that way!

Hmm...I just exited calendar and even went to lock screen...and it comes back up in list mode when I go back into the app? Not sure if there is a time limit, but it does seem to stay up even after exiting.
