I've been searching this forum in readiness for release later in the week and was wondering if somebody could point me in the direction of a good installation guide? I have heard it is best to do a clean install rather than a straight forward update etc. I don't really know what I am doing in all honesty :p

I didn't want to start yet another iOS 7 thread to ask what is probably a simple question :)

just do the over-the-air update and everything will be fine :) no need for a clean install

....and there are about 100 separate threads where people have asked the same question...:p
Yeah and you show me how to find it answered amongst all this madness!! :p

I did a search and no single thread title came up for me. There are many threads asking if people should upgrade, or why they are not. I did end my post saying there was no point starting another thread myself if it could be answered quickly on this one.

Go for the update but if you experience problems such as bad battery life etc then go for the clean install.

Don't know if someone noticed this before but with GM on my iPad when I run iPhone applications there's no more the "2x" button, apps just run in big screen with high resolution. I like it.

Call blocking is VERY welcome...

I dunno about other countries, but in the UK if you ring up your provider they WON'T block numbers that spam you... so annoying.

Today I got a cold call, and onto the block it went ;)

I heard you could block numbers directly from your cell provider here (maybe depending on who you have) but I think they charged for it. Some may not even allowed it at all so this feature is definitely welcome.

Best way to get rid of all bugs from the current version you're running, do a clean install. It's the best thing you can do when a new OS is released. I always do it and never had any bugs or problems with past versions. ;)

Just as many people always simply upgrade and also don't have any "bugs" or issues (without the extra hassle of a clean install or anything like that).

So I have opinions for both now. I think I will look into doing a clean install. How do you do it? Do you back up the device and then wipe it, before installing the new OS and syncing apps and contacts? :)

Usually I download the OS, install it and when it asks if i want to use a backup, i simply set it as a new phone and then sync everything into my phone. I am not in a hurry, so syncing everything is not a problem for me, I can wait.

After all, developers will have to update their apps to be compatible with IOS 7, so I'm in no rush :)

And yet, I have never done a "clean" install of a public release since the first iPhone and have never had any issues.

Doing a clean install is a waste of time, just like it is on OS X. Especially if you are restoring from a backup.

Good for you then. I said it was the best to do, not what to do ;)

Well...that's my point...everyone says that, but never with any proof that a "clean" install as a new phone and then restoring solves any issues more than a straight update.

Honestly, I can't find ONE expert, programmer, hardware employee who can give one example of an instance where "bad code" was addressed because of a clean install.

And I am talking about a GM here...not beta installs...that's a different story...

Personal experience: installed IOS 5 with a backup, constant bugs and freezes. After a clean install after each OS release, never had problems.

Just my 2 cents.

Ok Siri don't get so full of yourself

Couple of annoying issues:

- The same switch that controls cellular data for iTunes radio also controls it for automatic downloads of new music and iTunes Match. I want radio separate! I often listen to radio over cellular but automatic downloads and Match can wait til I'm on Wifi.

- Moments has the last 1000 photos or so duplicated, because they exist in both Photostream and the photos that I sync to my phone from Aperture. The software really should check EXIF information and weed out duplicates. :p

Other than that, it should be a fun GM day tomorrow :)
