The worst part is that they not only screwed up the Music app, but also their music API—so lots of 3rd party apps, even being superior to the official one, have to deal with stupid inconveniences and bugs that annoy the user.

Oh, Apple…
Does the new SDK with Extensibility change that in any way or too early to tell?

I knew what one of the questions would be just by looking at the title. I filed a bug requesting that Apple change the Album view back to what it was in pre-iOS7 days and it was classified as a duplicate. Someone here told me that this "feature" was always in the iPad version of Music. Apple isn't interested in fixing this. Whoever is responsible for this needs to be awarded the king bonehead award of the year.

Quick question , does iOS 8 have the ability to add a currently playing track to a playlist?

I really hope they collapse the artist albums so we don't have to scroll because ain't nobody got time fo dat. Well tbh even if they changed it back like ios 6 I'll probably still continue to use picky app.

What do you mean by fullscreen contact caller ID?

To the rest of you suffering with the horrendous music app introduced in iOS 7, I strongly encourage you to use Ecoute. It has better browsing options, better GUI and includes options like "play next" and "add up next". ;)

Mate I just want to say thanks for getting me on to Ecoute! Finally an app with up next and add to up next!

I got Ecoute. It's pretty awesome although I still have a habit going back to the stock app time to time. :/

I would have gone for Picky, but the icon for it is----not nice.

Why would you go back to the stock app if? It's just terrible.

Because as I said it's a habit. But I haven't touched the stock app today so that's a good step lol

Right, but that's completely irrational. If you know that something is inferior, you don't have to use it just because you've been doing it in the past. I mean, think of all the pain you'll suffer using that abomination, lol.

iOS 8 Music App Questions

Does the new SDK with Extensibility change that in any way or too early to tell?

I'm curious about this too. My only gripe with third party music apps is that Apple won't grant them access to features I use regularly. The most important two for me are:

1) ability to update play counts/history, and
2) ability to rate songs (I have a small but significant # of songs that need rating)

In each case, these two help me manage my large library since smart playlists regularly cycle songs in and out based on these criteria.

My two biggest wishes that would make the stock app useable (for me) would be:

1) Artist->Album wouldn't show all songs, and
2) Sort Albums by Title, instead of chronologically [or at least a) give the option to toggle the sorting, or b) allow me to edit the year used since they are often based on remaster date, not original release date, making the listing seem random if you know the catalog well.]

I've already sent feedback.

Does iOS 8 fix the white bars on album art that doesn't fit? Previously on iOS 7.0.6 the white space would be part of the whatever the wallpaper.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I've noticed a HUGE improvement at least for me. When editing a Playlist, FINALLY you can now add songs from other Playlists whereas before you could only add songs from Artist/Songs/Albums. This is huge for me because when I purchase a few songs and want to add them to my workout playlist I don't have to remember what they were and hunt them down individually, I can now just go to my Recently Added playlist and they're all right there to add.

Does anyone else have this issue, I'll play a song and then as soon as it ends the app crashes forcing me to reopen every single time
To hange songs.

I asked this question on the previous page this thread ;) and, while nobody said "no", nobody said "yes" either, so I take it that it is not possible at the moment.

Another great music player to try is Smart Player. I have been using it for quite a while and the latest release added ratings, which has left me NEVER opening the stock music app. When you click on artist, it gives you the list of albums including the number of songs on the device from each artist.

I hope they add up-next or it's available for developers.

Smart Player is exactly what you are looking for. It updates play counts, can scrobble to Last.fm, and gives you number 1 above. Not sure about number 2.

I have wanted this for quite awhile. You should not have to go through the cumbersome way they do it. It is simple, clear, efficient if you see the now playing screen and click on something to add it to your playlist of choice. Right now there is the option to add to genius playlist, but that is not good enough.

Also, I think they should store the playlists in the cloud. Just like they do bookmarks. Make them genuinely sync-able on any device. Right now, my Macbook, phone and mini all have different playlists. And I want them all the same.

SO SAD!!!!

Apple is not listening, they are not listening to the customers. I have 117 albums from 1 artist that I love dearly. The artist tab shows me 117 albums, if I want to get to that last album or even in the middle....what a complete waste of time to just scroll and scroll and scroll, cascading and cascading down and down I go, to FINALLY get to my album after wasting so much time, where is the ZEN?
ZEN=Change
Apple is not changing the Music app and that is really sad. The person that designed this and won't change it only has 2 albums per artist in their library.

From what others have posted iOS8 is still the same.
Apple is not listening. I gave feedback 6 months ago about this.
Why can't the artist tab be like iOS6?

Is my phone the only one that doesn't group albums by artist?
Go to Settings -> Music -> Group By Album Artist -> Off

No, do not have that ability yet. I want it too.

I just wish they would add song queueing (or "Up Next" functionality.) I have had that on my Rio Empeg car stereo for the past 10 YEARS and they won't add it to iOs or the iPod....

The world is falling.

this. especially considering that it is available on iTunes on the Mac.
The lack of changes in the music app really baffles me.

I've been asking about the reappearance of the old shuffle icon back in the player. Can someone please confirm that they have now gone back to how it was prior to iOS7 and you can now select artist, song, or album? From iOS7 they changed it depending if you are playing an album from artist or selected the album from the album list.
