For the amount they are paying for cdn, these should be no problem. They do have a bad track record on server-load though.

But the way you described it, a Windows or GTA V launch wouldn't be possible.
So I think the key is the bit in bold. We have Q2 call coming up on the 21st July? (I think that's the date) they had a successful launch so now from an investment point of view this gold. Perfect launch.

As for your latter sentence, it depends on pre staging, location of distribution and other factors. When Microsoft launched an operating system it comes from regional distribution servers, most likely some form of WSUS or SCCM hosted by them on their Global infrastructure so this depletes the amount of bandwidth coming from a single datacentre. I'd imagine it's similar to GTA V/Steam or any other vendor as they replicate out across the global.

Edit: At launch it was estimated around 53.8 million installed Windows 8 (across the launch month). which is a lot agreed, but if you consider 800 million is a potential hit for Apple in one day (yes, I know not all 800 million are going to hit Apple Music in the first day) they need to consider every aspect.

Again this is me just assuming this, it's a theory, I have experience, personal from doing launches of applications and other things in a global company and these are the kind of things we look out for.

I'm pretty sure at this moment, we're very far from 800 mil users.

Think Spotify or Netflix then, don't think they have a problem distributing their stuff on a on-demand streaming basis.

Apple implements the same CDN technology and mirrors around the globe anyway, so it's comparable with a GTA or Windows launch.

I have a gut feeling it's something to do with DRM, they don't want people downloading the ENTIRE iTunes catalogue at once in the beginning. They want people to get used to all music on-demand forever. We're still not sure whether offline tracks are DRM-free right? (This is regarding no iTunes launch)

Looks like Apple Music had an outage last night for 30 minutes. This is why they staggered it I believe.

There has been talk of some Amazon or other backend services going down and affecting various sites and apparently Apple Music.
Yep, the EC2 environment which I talked about in a previous post seems to be affected. Would love to know more details for an analyst point of view, sadly I was fast asleep when this happens so I couldn't check AWS to see what was going on.

The Amazon environment and other services were affected by the leap second adjustment. A bunch of services depend on atomic time so when adjustments are made and a second added it can force some systems to trip over themselves for a bit. Looks like music services were affected by the adjustment.

Ahh thank you. That makes sense that it was the leap second that caused the issue. Spent the last few weeks upgrading our Cisco environment to avoid that issue haha.

To be fair, we don't usually have a completely new service launching like Apple Music while the Betas are running. Eddy Cue confirmed a new ios 9 seed for apple music.

I really can't see them making ios 9 users wait almost a week before giving them access to Apple Music. We'll see ios 9 beta 3 either in an hours time, or alongside 8.4 tomorrow. I guarantee it.
Hasn't anybody learned it? You cannot just assume when an update is coming out. It annoys me to see people hypothesise or try to make educated guesses or in this case even guarantee it, and get people's hopes up. The updates follow no particular schedule and will be released as and when they are ready.

"Updates typically come out 2 weeks between each other"
"Well last year we saw updates as close as one week between each other"
"Apple music is a different beast and will probably be released at the same time on iOS9 beta 2 at the same time"
"Twitter says update is coming boys, here's the fake version number that was quoted.."

Ugh. I wish people would just relax, test the damn beta software and just wait patiently for beta 3 and beyond whenever they decide to arrive.

If apple release new beta software like a sturdy clock, every singe step is fully predictable, then no one would take care of the software release date.

Unfortunately it is of course, not.

Plus, expecting it is an interesting topic for a group of members. And everyone testing beta is hoping next beta version could be better, and can't wait to update.

Or you could just skip over posts that might annoy you.

Haha really got you boys going haven't I. Good, complaining about me is going to serve you a lot better than all this this futile speculation. Glad I could be of service, you might feel the betas come a bit quicker now ;)

Don't know what's your problem, it's coming Monday, we are calm. You're making a scene for no reason.

Where does Monday come from? Some additional information that came out recently?

Last I recall was him mentioning "early next week", which can certainly mean Monday, but can also mean Tuesday (and potentially even Wednesday), and that's assuming something hasn't changed since then.

What's your point/problem?

This thread is clearly aimed to discuss the release of b3, with our thoughts and opinions on the release date.
