Update through iTunes on your computer but update iTunes first so that it can support iOS 9. Do that and you'll be golden.

My iPhone 4S successfully downloaded the update over iTunes 12.2.2.25 on OS X 10.10.5. The install is running at the moment.

iTunes just tossed me this error while updating my iPhone 4S but it appears the update is still happening.

So… slow…
Maybe one day updating on the first day won't be super slow…

Apple servers are hurting. I got the iOS 9 update to click on my iPad OTA, but now the App Store is all sorts of screwed up -- telling me there are updates available, but refusing to display the "Update" button (only showing "Open"), etc.

After plugging it in to sync/backup with iTunes, my iOS 9 updated over the iOS 9 Golden Master on both iPad and iPhone. I was getting failures at first.
I'm not at home, so that wasn't an option. Turned my work phones hotspot feature on. Took around 2 hours (lousy coverage area).
