In my OP I posted a video on iOS 5, what's your point?

The point I'm trying to make is this has been going on for years and there's evidence to prove it. The reason why it's a never ending cycle, is because it continues to happen. Again, the difference in this thread is to provide visual documentation, rather than opinion which is what people usually do on the forums.

What the heck? ;)

Don't get me started on Android.... :p. I would never argue about Apple's performance vs Android.

Although you may think that I don't like my iPhone, I love it and I am perfectly happy using 8.4.1. Even though Apple slows down their devices, it's something I'm willing to deal with because it's clearly the best option out there.

P.S.: You seemed pretty upset about your "slow wake bug" ;). We all are OCD at some point.

Anecdotal documentation which still doesn't mean it's the same for everyone in all the cases. That said, all of this has been known and discussed with the same type of videos year after year. There's really nothing new and nothing that will affect anything one way or another.

Ok. Thanks for participating.

You keep saying the same thing over and over. What are your statistics to show that iOS 9 is faster than 8 in that video? I provided mine, please provide yours. Until then, no point responding to you.
I'm waiting for a video that shows a real use case, not booting the phone, serially opening and closing apps and calling it a day. I guess you keep saying the same thing over and over as well.

That is your video and if you look closely you will see the finger is hitting the phone on the right after the phone on the left in some instances; thus making the test null and void, or at least tipped in favor of iOS 9.

I'd be 100% more interested to see battles between the final versions of each OS, or the very first version of the OS.

7.1.2 vs 8.4.1 vs 9.x.x
7.0 vs 8.0 vs 9.0

Every X.0 release since as early as iOS 7 has been a total lagfest, but by the end of all the updates they round out most of the outstanding bugs/performance issues.

To compare a final version of an OS to the very first of the next one is unfair.

Side note: I always encourage every update due to the increasing amount of security vulnerabilities/fixes that get released.

But you can't stay on an x.4 release if you want security updates.

Apple should support the previous major version with security patches, so that users have the choice to stay on stable and performance optimized versions of the OS at all times, if they can wait for the new features.

There is really no excuse why the richest company in the world cannot back port security patches to at least one prior OS version. They can do it with the Mac, and it's making them less money than iOS.
then you can stick with any Android phone and enjoy the only one upgrade that they will concede you (if any) and all of its security ....

Apple want us to have the latest iOS available. Like it or not.
If you don't like it, there are alternatives....

I was waiting for you to join the discussion :)

I'm comparing the two final releases of the previous two OS's running a device that has seen significant slowdowns since its release. As the videos show, each year the 4s has gotten slower.

Instead of arguing over whether the video is scientifically accurate or whatever defense you might come up with, I would love for you to show me a video of any iPhone performing better on updated software.
Not going to follow you in this ridiculous YouTube war ...
I can see with my eyes how my iPhone runs iOS.
iOS 8.4 on an iPhone 4S ? I phone 4S is a phone from 2011 and you are using an iOS from 2015: slowdowns are to be expected. You should THANKS Apple for supporting a smartphone for 4-5 years on a row.

The only broad set of comparisons I've seen that have any degree of objectivity are those posted by Ars, which show that on most devices, in most scenarios, iOS 9 is at least as good or faster than iOS 8.4.1. I understand the limitations of benchmarks, but I also understand the limitations of YT videos. http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/09/ios-9-thoroughly-reviewed/8/#h1

Honestly, iOS 9 feels better than iOS 8.4.1 on my iPhone 6+. There is a little lag here, and a little slowdown there, but I also understand that I'm comparing a x.0 software version to a x.4.1 version. It'll get better over time.

Smart thing to do!! Make x.0 lag like hell, people go out and buy new phones..
Weeks later, x.1 puts everything back to normal.

Profit, literally.

Except most people aren't exoeriencing that with iOS 9, whether because it's not there for them, because they don't notice it, or because it's trivial enough that they don't really care about it.

Someone had to spew the FUD. You I didn't expect.
I've had Android devices that had 0,1,2,3 major updates. I get security updates via the Play Store, via the Carrier, via the OEM, and now Google's monthly updates. It's different than iOS. So what.

indeed.
Ars made a good review as usual.

except Apple did exactly the contrary to me: after iOS 9 Im not so sure to change my iPhone 6 for a 6S ...

While it was obvious on my iPhone 3Gs that every iOS has slowed it down until it became completely un-usable, I can't say the same with my iPhone 5. I put 64GB of stuff in it and on iOS 9 it's still lightning-fast, 3 years and 3 major iOS releases later.

So regarding the speed and responsiveness of the device, I couldn't be happier. Regarding the bugs, that's a whole other story (and it's been worse with my new 6s after only one day of usage).

Thank them for turning the 4S to a lag fest with no option to downgrade?Sad fact is that I have a iPad mini 1 with iOS 9 and it's slower than the Galaxy S3 which wasn't updated past Jellybean. So it's either a device which runs like molasses but incredibly secure or a device which is insecure but still decently fast .

the only credible test I saw about iOS 9, Ars Technica review, said a very different story, with iOS 9 on par or better than iOS 8 on almost every product.

But sure, I should believe serial complainers like you instead .... lol

iOS users get the new OS when it's released with no waiting, then find things that they don't like and complain.

Android users complain they have to wait for new android updates well after its released and complain. There's also no guarantee that their device will get an update.

I guess no matter what boat you're in its never going to be good enough.

Summary: People like to complain.

Huh, who knew?

I never understand how people obsessed with lag aren't using jailbroken phones. I'm running a tweaked jailbroken iphone 6 on 8.4, and with all the tweaks that speed up the interface, it's almost impossible to go back to a stock iphone because its so ridiculously slow.

Sure, I'd love the new features on 9. But I actually kind of like being stalled on 8.4, where everything is working—this yearly update schedule is brutal. I also get to wait out the first couple of revs of iOS 9 until the consensus is that it's smooth.

I guess I'm saying that I understand why normals don't all jailbreak. But if you're the kind of person reading this forum, or even moreso arguing about youtube videos of reaction times...I mean, these are the kind of people who would *love* being jailbroken.

My iPhone 6 is noticeably slower than before. It's "laggy", sluggish. Also the damn Siri pops on the screen all to often when I press the home button. WTH, Apple??!! This is crap! Is this by design? Apple puts out update to slow down our devices so that we'll buy new devices? I call for class action lawsuit unless Apple fixes these issues or at the very least provides a downgrade option.

Most people aren't having these types of issues.
