Is it right that all third party keyboards don't have the siri dictation feature? wtf?

Yes, Apple currently does not make the Siri dictation feature available to developers, so unless the developers develop their own dictation technology/feature, we might not see them in third party keyboards.

I did a major update on the topic start wiki,
It now is devided in two kind of keyboards (full swype features, other keyboards).
I've also added links to the app store, where available. I also added a few new keyboards.

That one looks cool, do you know it it has the "swiping" function?
Can you use the predictive text from the Apple stock keyboard?

I don't think it's a swiping keyboard when i look at their description in the App Store and see their screenshots.

I purchased Type for .99 in the App Store. I definitely like it so far; it's reliable, hasn't glitched once. Its the same keyboard, but is customizable with various key colors and keyboard backgrounds (only reason I purchased).

I can't find it. Are you sure of the name?

Edit: Never mind. I saw the post above with the link to it.

I noticed that all the keyboard apps currently in the App Store are rated low. The highest I've seen has a rating of 3 stars (even SwiftKey, this keyboard is one of the best I've used when I had the HTC One). People complain of lag and it seems that all of them have bugs. I guess we just have to wait for the updates.

When using safari with custom keyboards and you go to Facebook, you can type but not press post

I've been testing the third party keyboards. In fact, I'm writing this response via the Swype keyboard on myth iPad. I haven't tried SwiftKey due to possible privacy issues.

While the Swype keyboard had the cool factor, and I'm sure I'll get better with it over time. I don't see that the third party keyboard are more effective than the iOS 8 keyboard once it learns your nature of typing.

I understand the third party keyboards were big on Android because some of the stock keyboards were terrible, but are these third party keyboard that much of an advantage on iOS 8?

Swype could be great for a very quick reply, but I don't set that it's extremely effective for more than that.

What say you?

Are third party keyboards just another one of the "awesome features"'Apple fanboys had to live without?

Nope the stock apple keyboard appears on the lockscreen even if you disable it.

Here is what I see with the lock screen (at least when quick-replying to messages) :

If I do a quick reply and I have a third-party keyboard and the Emoji keyboard enabled, but the Apple keyboard disabled, it will switch to the Emoji keyboard, with no option to use anything else, which isn't very useful at all.

If, however, I disable both the Apple Keyboard AND the Emoji Keyboard, then if I try to respond to a message from the lock screen, it will load the default Apple Keyboard (but will otherwise keep it disabled.) So the bug seems to be that it considers the Emoji keyboard an appropriate alternative to the default keyboard if it's enabled.

This is the configuration I'm going to try, since I never use Emoji. I've pretty much given up on third-party keyboards for now since they keep reverting back to the Apple Keyboard no matter what I do, but until now I've always had the Emoji keyboard. I'm curious what happens if there is absolutely no alternative keyboard whatsoever enabled…

I used to love Swype back on android a long time ago. This was before the Google Keyboard came out. I've been on iOS since then, and I must say I'm doing better tapping than Swyping.

You will get a blank space. No keyboard just a useless blank space.

On the lock screen and spot light if you don't have the default keyboard as a option.

It'll be random.

So far it has been correctly reverting to the default keyboard if I try to use quick reply on the lock screen, even though the default keyboard is disabled.
We'll see if this is a consistent behavior…

Can't wait for Swype and Swiftkey.

I've been using these on Android for years. It's amazing that Apple finally caved in to customer requests. After procrastinating for several years I didn't expect them to allow these very efficient highly superior keyboards. Yet Apple isn't stupid, just stubborn. Now some of the customers they lost because they didn't stay relevant will consider returning. Between the keyboard and modern sized displays Apples finally acting like they're not sitting back just because they had customers that would buy anything. It's good to see.

That not so subtle insult didn't need to be there. I always thought I bought an iPhone because I found it to be the best tool for my workflow after careful consideration. Apparently not though. Apparently it's because I'm a fanboy and will just "buy anything." Good to know - thanks for that.

Lighten up, no reason to internalize an observation. Apples making the choices, they've brilliantly collected fat profits for years thereby enabling them to do or not do whatever they like and pull their followers along for the ride. You've got to give them credit for the influence they have.
