iOS Custom Keyboard Megathread

Are third party keyboards just another one of the "awesome features"'Apple fanboys had to live without?

Instead of replacing the already sufficient iOS default keyboard, we can use third party keyboards to simply enhance the default keyboard, similar to how the emoji keyboard is just used to enhance the main keyboard.

The gif keyboards (PopKey, Riffsy, etc), for example, are not designed to replace the keyboard, but only to be used when you want to copy/paste a gif into your messenger app. The font keyboards (FunKeyBoard, etc), can be used only if you want to add "fonts" to your messages. Same with the alternative emoji keyboards, etc etc.

What do you think?

Your absolutely right! I overlooked that this keyboard was a swipe keyboard. They also have 90+ language support and AZERTY support not bad! I just adjusted this in the TS. The only downside is that it needs full access to work.

First app I've seen with no screenshots. Anyway, I attached some screenshots, it's not bad. Flesky can be made much bigger too though.

Am I the only one that simply wants a number pad keyboard, that looks like the dialer, some apps have it for numeric only entries, I want it system wide that I can switch back and forth with the regular keyboard instead of using the tiny keys on the top row!!

Swiftkey works great for me, but the default keyboard has no issues too.
Don't see the reason to have that many choices. I would prefer a limited set of styles, to keep the OS consistent through all its interface.

Are you having issues with SwiftKey? I am on 8.0.2 and it still doesn't always appear 100% sometimes I get the default then swiftkey pops up for a sentence or so then it reverts back to the swiftkey one.

anyone know of one made for big fingers?

I just type in landscape. The keys are bigger and farther apart.

I'm having major issues with SwiftKey. Landscape orientation is practically unusable. When turning the phone to landscape, the keyboard sits right in the middle of the screen instead of at the bottom. You have to fiddle with changing keyboards to get it on the bottom. Even so, when typing more than an entire screen worth of text, the bottom line of text runs beyond the bottom of the text window making it virtually impossible to see what you typed until you reach the next line.

iOS 8.0.2 did not fix these issues. I think SwiftKey also needs to work on these bugs and how to deal with apps that are not optimised to iOS 8 yet.

I'm on iOS 8 for now (haven't updated yet on my phone), and have no issues in portrait. It's buggy when going landscape, but I am not having issues of it switching back and forth.
Are you sure you're not hitting the keyboards button while texting?

hmm wouldnt say i am. I only have swiftkey (UK) and emjoi keyboards live, it happens a lot when I am going to my emjoi keyboard, then im presented with the standard one and visa versa...

Go Keyboard has the numbers at the top for anyone that cares. They merged it with the top QWERTY keys. It's kinda buggy, but pretty well done.

Hahaha. I found it this afternoon and was like wow, a long lost friend!

By the way, the bugs seem related to the predictive text. Turn that off for now and it should be OK.

Do you guys have more than the 3rd party keyboard enabled? I have swiftkey and the emjoi one enabled. I am thinking of switching to Flesky and give that a go as i keep having the iOS standard keyboard switch back when i use emojis

fixed - i think anyways...i had the swiftkey and the uk standard keyboard...so removed the standard and now hopefully its stopped clashing

Yep keyboards are still very buggy.
