4K on iPad started around beta 3 I think. I have been using it. Its not there every time I watch but is there most of the time so its a real option.

The only videos I can get it to work with on my iPhone 11 Pro max are show case videos for HDR and 4K. Completely useless as I'd never watch those videos. I can't get it to work at all with my iPad pro or iPad mini.

This is what I am seeing to, only those showcase videos play at full 4K HDR in my iPhone 11 Pro Max and on my 2020 iPad Pro all is limited to 1080P.

I then tried to play this MKBHD video on my iPhone, it supposed to play at 4K but on my iPhone it’s showing 1080P

Yet on my TV it shows it’s a 4K video

YouTube 15.39.4 came out 1 day ago to replace 15.38.2 is still not working to play 4K on iPadOS 14.2 b1

Likely the same with iOS 14.2 b1

I think YouTube are controlling it their end, rather than it being tied to updates.

Did I disable something or do I need to enable something because now that option in YouTube video playback is gone for me.

Today on iPad Pro 2018 12.9 in Australia. YouTube version 15.39.4. I’m signed into my YouTube account and I don’t have YouTube premium. I’m currently on iOS 14.0.1. This is the first time I’ve ever had 2160p on my iPad Pro and it looks damn good.

The Youtube guys posted (I saw it somewhere I forget, on twitter I think) that it is on the YouTube end.

The device is capable, but suspect YouTube are still detecting "iPad" and not enabling it.

Now its no longer an iPad issue, but the Youtube end needs to be updated. I wouldn't hold your breath, but according to twitter they're onto it.

Still no SDR 4K on iPhone 11 PM, iPad Pro 2020 or AppleTV 4K.

That's with premium and incognito.... Just wish Google would put out a timeline

Just an update iPadOS 14.2 beta 2 (like beta 1) doesn't allow 4K YouTube (15.39.4). Stay with 14.0.1

Nothing to do with iOS updates, it's all on YouTube's end. They keep enabling it and disabling it randomly (well to us, I suspect they are still doing A/B testing, or just messing with us).

Funny I seem to think its the opposite that Apple keeps breaking the support as they release these incremental betas. I know it was working with iPadOS 14.0 then upgraded to 14.2 beta 1 with exact same app version and it is no longer working. That doesn't point to Google in that instance. Probably blame on both sides maybe?
