Funny I seem to think its the opposite that Apple keeps breaking the support as they release these incremental betas. I know it was working with iPadOS 14.0 then upgraded to 14.2 beta 1 with exact same app version and it is no longer working. That doesn't point to Google in that instance. Probably blame on both sides maybe?

Nah, we were seeing changes happening between iOS builds. The instance you mentioned was just coincidental. Apple are not changing anything with the VP9 support, it was in officially as part of iOS 14.

Guys, I see my IPadOS 14.2 beta 2 with YouTube 15.39.4 is now working again!

Not on my iPad Pro 2018. 😫

Still, goes to show its server side, as no app updates or new beta builds.

Having the same issue. I had 4K playback options throughout all of the Public Beta, & when iPadOS 14/14.0.1 came out, those options disappeared.

Deleting/reinstalling the app, power cycling as well as enabling VP9 in Safari Experimental settings does not seem to have worked.

As it’s server side, there’s no point messing with the app on your device or power cycling it.

Just have to wait for YouTube to decide to enable it. Only way to know is to check a video regularly.

Since this is a "merged" thread I have no clue if it covers tvOS 14 too, but I noticed yesterday that after installing 14.0.2 that I now have the 2160p option within YouTube. I don't have a 4K TV, so I raely checked prior to tvOS 14.x and reading the issues. I don't remember seeing the 2160p option before, but it might have been there and I simply didn't notice it.

Still no 2160p option or 1440p option on my iPads, both of which have 2048 x 1536 screens, but I realize that will have to be fixed on YouTubes end.

I can play Youtube videos on my iPhone 11 (14.0.1) at 2160P as of today. Anyone else see this yet?

A few days ago I could only play videos at 1080p. Is this legit or some bug? Thoughts?

UPDATE: Auto set resolution is now at 1440p use to be 480p for me. And there is a new upper limit 2160p message as well.

This was a thing in 14, and even the betas for iOS 14. Though there may be several factors at play as to why some aren't seeing it. For one thing I believe the YouTube app limits the option to Wi-Fi only but I may be wrong. Second YouTube and many others often do tiered update rollouts

i think for mobile ios world...1440p is enough...for imac etc its another thing

I agree. None of the iPhones even have 1440 pixels in the vertical. The 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max have enough for 1080p, but the iPhone XR and 11 only have enough for 720p. So even 1440p is overkill for the iPhones. The iPads all have enough pixels for 1440p, but none have enough for 2160p, so 2160p is overkill for them. Although the iPad Pro 12.9” comes close to 2160p, so maybe it would look better than 1440p on it.

The iPhone 12 models might come with more resolution, but I doubt they will have enough to take advantage of 2160p.

My MacBook Pro 15” Retina doesn’t have enough resolution for 2160p either, but I can get YouTube 2160p when using the Chrome browser, although it doesn’t look any better than 1440p on it. Using the Safari browser I occasionally get 2160p, but it isn’t consistent yet.

My TV 4K running tvOS 14.0.2 sometimes allows me to select 2160p on 4K videos, but sometimes it only allows 1440p. Not that it matters since my TV is only 1080p.

No 4k for me on an iphone 11. It was enabled a few weeks ago but they disabled it since then.

On this video I’m getting 2160p HDR on my iPhone 11 Pro and the same on my 2018 iPad Pro, but it’s not giving me the HDR option.
