Maps is behaving strangely on my phone. I’m seeing European speed limit signs for speed cameras, and whenever I load a previous destination route, the camera zooms out to the globe and sends me to…well, take a look below!

It’s like all previous destinations are now appearing as though they were part of a multi-stop drive, even though they weren’t.

I’ve never seen the globe zoom issue, but in the last couple years I’ve had the reverse speed limit issue-I’m in the UK but could see US style speed icons at speed cameras. I mentioned it here in the iOS 15 thread (you even gave a reaction emoji!) and I think I was intermittently still getting it in 16 (but haven’t noticed it in a while so might be misremembering):

The globe zoom out is occurring in CarPlay as well. Happens when trying to select a route, and happens again if you hit the button to zoom out to show the whole upcoming route.

The design and font of some of the road name labels has changed slightly. And the zoom and camera behavior on CarPlay is definitely changed from iOS 16. Will have to experiment more, but I was actually seeing some lane markings while driving straight on local roads, and the camera was zooming in more approaching turns. Unfortunately, while driving straight, the colors of the buildings are still very muted compared to what you see on the phone itself. In positive news, the long standing issue of the sizes of the road name and POI labels seems to have been resolved!

And I’m definitely not in Africa.

The globe zoom out has been corrected, it seems.

I’m happy so far with Maps look and performance. Definite improvements over iOS 16, but I still feel the maps while navigating just look better on the phone. In DCE areas, the buildings just aren’t showing their colors enough, and it makes the map a bit bland. I believe this has more to do with the camera angles on my super widescreen CarPlay, as there are certainly times when the colors pop more.

Also, I’ve been wondering why the “turn arrows” are simplified on the CarPlay screen, while the turn arrows on the watch accurately depict the intersection. It’s not always the case. I remember Maps on CarPlay showing complicated intersection arrows in the recent past, but not so much anymore?

I also think I liked the Maps on watch display better on WatchOS 9.

Simple left turn:

Left turn shows the shape of the intersection:

Here, the arrows match. But a lack of building color….

Here, the building colors pop! And lane lines are visible.

Is…Maps showing to pull over to the curb at the destination? haha

My maps won’t count down distance when I’m travelling along a route. It just stays stuck at the distance from the last turn… eg 450m turn right (it says that the whole way).

Anyone else experience this?

After using it for the past few days, seeing the bugs ironed out a bit, and updating today to iOS 17.0.1…this is the best iteration of Apple Maps on CarPlay in years.

The bug with the POI name sizes is finally, FINALLY gone.

The camera has changed a bit between yesterday and today. Now on local roads, I’m seeing lane details and much more color on the buildings.

Camera seems smoother and less choppy. Zooms in nice and close on turns.

My only complaint is that Siri no longer says “Arrived at home”. It’s just the generic arrival message now.

I don't have any screenshots to share, but I notice for me in CarPlay the maps no longer tell me what street to turn on. The dark gray box in the upper left corner now only shows the arrow and the distance before I get to the turn. Only way I can get it to show me what street I'll be turning onto is to shift it into dashboard view. Any tricks into getting that to work again?

Push the gray box and it'll open up and show the street name

Maybe less of a Maps issue, since I noticed it was just as off in Google Maps, but my location has been bouncing all over the map and is rarely correct. I wouldn't mind it so much if I wasn't traveling out of state at the moment, so I rely on navigation a lot more than normal. Getting around yesterday was a nightmare.

I’m in Vegas, driving my usual rental car BMW 5 Series. I’m seeing some unusual/different behaviors.

When in the top down view approaching a turn, or while in junction view approaching an exit, nearby road names are displayed as words on the street, similar to normal map mode, instead of the usual bubble labels you see while navigating. Is anyone else seeing the same thing currently?

I don’t have CarPlay, just wanted to say that the MGM Grand looks cool in that view and I thought that stadium was a big can of tuna at first .

This is how the top down normally looks. But when it zooms in beyond this level, the bubble labels disappear, and then all street names appear as flat text on the map. Even roads you’re not intersecting with.
