apart from the new iPad being amazing and the new 120hz is insane my iPad 10.5 has yellow tint problem and warmer even with true tone off like every apple product I have and it’s brighter on left side compared to right I’m so sick of every amazing apple device having these issues I’ll try upload pics to show you, lcd is such bad news for screens

I have just restored my new 12.9 iPad from a previous backup, and I have noticed the same !!
I thought I had visions but clearly the left side of the screen is darker ( not brighter ) than the rest of the surface and yes, I can see a yellowish tone throughout the screen as well ..
I did not notice any color nor brightness issue in my older iPad Pro gen 1....
That's the firs time for me... ( sixth Ipad so far...)

Is this an actual issue, and how widespread is this? My delivery is scheduled for today. Should I refuse?
Yes, it is an actual issue... that happens with every generation of iPad. This is one of the reasons why I wait 3-5 months after a product is released to buy it.

Same as the majority of iPads. As long as there are no dead pixels and dust under the screen I wouldn’t bother playing the screen lottery as it’s quite rare to get a ‘perfect’ screen.
That is true at the beginning. But after a while, the quality of manufacturing improves. By waiting a bit, it is possible to get a "perfect" screen. I've never had any issues with mine. Ironically, it is those people who must have something day-1 who are also greatly concerned about getting a "perfect" screen. Those are incompatible objectives.

As has been said a million times before. There's adhesive that takes days to fully cure that can cause a yellow look to the screen. These are clearly fresh off production so I would wait a few days before passing judgment
Nope. With the new screen manufacturing/assembly technology that is no longer true.

I've had every iPad (except iPad 3) on day one including the 9.7 pro and aside from the iPad 2, none of mine had a yellow tint issue.

First, I didn't say it was impossible to get a perfect screen on day-1, just that the odds are against it.

Second, this statement contradicts your previous one where you claim that the yellow is due to the glue needing to dry. So how did your day-1 iPads magically have dried glue? :p

I was referring to people who may have obvious yellowing issues to just hold tight. That's all.

I think it's important member this is a tech website that others will report their issues. And then you will naturally have comparisons of everybody checking their new iPads for yellow displays, which creates tech hypochondria

Most use their iPads daily and never have an issue or notice any yellow displays. My advice would be to try not to look for the smallest issues and enjoy it for what it is. Unless it's an actual defect, then obviously you would have a 14 day return and of course that's what Warranties are for. And Apple will always stand behind their product.

Do not have my 9.7 to compare my 10.5 but will when I get home.

I will post some images of them side by side.

From what I can see the 10.5 is rich and vibrant and looks as good if not better than my 9.7 with even back lighting.

As long as I am happy . . . . .

I also got my 10.5 iPad. The screen is really awesome and super smooth.
The problem is I don't see any color on the display, I can only see a little bit of blue and green. Anyone know how to fix this?

Btw, I'm color blind :)

Hasn't been true for years. In fact, I'm not sure that it ever was.

As has not been the case for years.

Being pedantic, forgivable.
Being wrong, forgivable.
Being pedantic and wrong? Not so much.

Yes, 5 minutes after opening box, setting it up, noticed yellow tint at bottom of screen. Did all the testing, even left screen on for few minutes. Still yellow. Wasn't buying it at all! Called Apple. They'll be sending courier to me to pick it up.

I'll tell them to rather refund me or ship another in 2 months, when production gets this iPAd 10.5 yellow ting/tint screen problem SOLVED. $1400AU for non uniform screen? No thanks!

For now, I'll continue using 9.7.

sorry to ruin your dreams but this issue won't get magically solved by apple after 2 months or anytime soon unless their QC/standards raise.
Apple's been buying their displays from various manufacturers for years and every single release people complain about uneven screens. With every Apple product that has a screen by the way.
For them it's probably cheaper to use non-uniform lcds as most people don't notice that. LCDs are cut from huge sheets so it basically comes down to luck if you are in the group that notices these annoying shifts. Some units will have even screens, others won't.
The screen lottery has been around since companies started using LED LCD. It's just the way it is.

I'm quite picky when it comes to backlight bleeding and uneven backlight. I received a 10.5 iPad Pro and tested with completely white and black screens and I'm very impressed. It's the first time I received a device that is perfectly fine.

I've returned about 20 iPads and 5 or 6 MacBook Pros due to uneven screens throughout the years. Not even kidding. Anymore, I just buy 2 or 3 at first and return the ones with the worst screens. It's an annoying process, and I always dread buying anything with a screen from Apple.

Me too. Now I buy them in pairs. If I can't stand both, I replace them one time. If I still don't like the 3rd and 4th, I just replace the worst one last time for a 5th. Then ultimately return the "final" worst for a refund and live with the least good one. Sad but true.

I was trying to find the article but you summed it out nicely. I remember this as well.

My display looks brighter (whiter) on the left side, and warmer (yellower) on the right with :

1 - True Tone ON
2 - Night Shift ON

With True Tone OFF and Night Shift slider set towards a slightly cooler tint, the screen is perfect.

With both off, the screen is pure milky white all around!
