No assumptions, only guesses.

I think that it could go on sale tomorrow. Releases often happen on Fridays, and even if they are intentionally trying to keep it off the streets until after the iPhone event, taking orders tomorrow will still mean that at best it would start arriving in people’s hands around the same time as the event, so I don’t see a reason to wait any longer than that given that by the end of next week they will likely be dealing with iPhone preorders.

That’s all just guessing though.

I would think so as well especially if only to prevent their store from being slammed with orders.

Imagine if both iPad Air 4 and iPhone 12's are available for pre-order right after the announcement on Tuesday? That might bring the site to a crawl!

I don't follow many launches very closely, but the only comparable example I can think of is the iPhone X.

It was announced at the September event along with the iPhone 8/8 Plus, and preorders didn't begin until late October or maybe early November. Its page on the Apple site was prominently featured the entire time.

Two differences in that case though. For one, the iPhone X was a major tentpole item for them, so they wanted to promote it as much as possible. Secondly, they gave a specific preorder/release date right off the bat.
I don't think is has much to do with the X being a tentpole item. Simply the way Apple does things after a keynote. Product pages and pricing go live even if it's not available to order yet.

Wasn't the Magic Keyboard announced in March and only became available for order in April?

I don’t know. That wasn’t a launch that I followed. ?

I think you’re right though. Once they announce something it gets a page. I just don’t how many times there’s been a page but no release date or ability to order for an extended period of time.

Are most here planning to use the Air for basic email and consumption, etc?

If you’re doing more, is going with the base 64gb enough?

The bump to 256gb is pretty pricey.

Right now, I think Apple's just prioritizing iPhone manufacturing. Even with reduced demand, I expect iPhones still sell millions more than iPads.

My typical use includes comics so I'll be going for 256GB LTE. Will probably wait for a discount though.

I might be out of place here on this question as I only have a Air2 and obviously my habits might not match yours.

But ever since I got my device I always vowed to NEVER have another 64GB device again. I have lots of pictures and use my iPad for surfing the Internet and social media. It just always seems like I’m deleting something or choosing to not download something simply because I know it’s too much. And it wasn’t like this from day 1. It took a year or 2 for me to want more space.

I think Apple knows what they’re doing with the pricing and that some repeat customers will pay anything to get out of the 64GB hole lol. That’s why it isn’t 128 starting space.

Personally if you have the money I suggest future proofing.

It's super pricey IMHO. It puts you within 10% of the 11 inch iPad Pro (albeit with just 128GB).

But yes, if I get the new Air I'll go 64GB, I use iPads for work, study, reading, notes, email, training etc. but most info resides in various cloud storage services etc.

I currently alternate between Air 3 256GB and Pro 10.5 512GB for primary use. The Air 3 is pretty much filled with manga and only has around 50GB free. The Pro 10.5 has the same content as Air 3 plus some videos and has around 80GB free.

Lol, if I go for 11-in Pro I won't be able to stop at 256GB. I'll be compelled to go all the way to 1TB. Which I will eventually get but the priority right now is 12.9 1TB (hopefully 5G).

Would love it if they dropped today. I really can't decide between the Space Grey or Silver colour though.

I originally said green, then decided I was just reacting to everyone loving blue and actually I wanted blue, and two days ago I was back to green - so I have no idea!

I initially liked the new blue colour but looking at it now, it’s far too light in colour and with an official iPad Air leather case on it, you’ll barely be able to see the colour anyway so I‘m now going for Space Grey!
I agree. I think the Silver looks so smart and premium, but always like a Space grey device, and my MacBook Pro is Space Grey too.

The official Apple 2020 iPar Air case on its website (which also currently shows as unavailable).
Isn’t that just a Smart ”cover” though? Or am I completely wrong?

My air 2 had a smart case where the iPad sat completely down inside it and it was the bomb.

It's a folio case. It secures magnetically to and covers the back, while the cover protects the front. It's overpriced, but its so sleek and functional that I'll probably get one.

By the way, Jon Prosser said to get your money ready for the Air 4 on September 29th... Nothing against him, but he keeps coming up with wrong dates for this particular launch.
