Still don't see the issue. There's a bunch of Apple devices released every year. Would 1-2 months gap between releases really make that big of a difference?

Personally, I set aside funds per paycheck for entertainment expenses (including tech) and I just work off an annual budget. Besides, I don't need to buy every single device that Apple releases and I certainly don't need flagships in all product categories.

That's true, but it's not just a matter of money. Some people who might have bought the Air 4 just because it's the new shiny thing are going to lose interest as soon as they see the newer shinier iPhone. When the Air 4 had it's time to shine all anyone could do was look at pictures and view pricing on the website. Kind of feels like it will be overshadowed when it's finally available.

That's the MacRumors POV where shiny and new reign supreme. ;)

I expect the Air 4 will sell just fine to consumers who need a new tablet. The 2020 iPad Pro hasn't been shiny and new for a while and it's still on back order, afaik. Most lay people likely aren't even aware that new iPads and Apple Watches have been released. :p

I’m confused why you think there’s a huge overlap in people looking for a tablet vs looking for a new phone?

If you’re looking for a tablet, you aren’t going to buy a phone instead unless all you’re doing is impulsively throwing money at things to try and fill some void in you.

You or I won't, but you might be surprised how many people are just looking for a new toy. Why do you think some people buy a new flagship smartphone every single year? No one actually needs that. No one who has an iPhone 11 right now actually needs an iPhone 12. No one who has a 2020 or even 2018 iPad Pro needs this new Air, but some are getting it. It's just wanting to have the newest thing.

Not gonna lie. Getting the Air 4 because I want a new toy. The pandemic's giving me cabin fever. Will likely wait for a sale, though. :D

However, the iPhones and computers only get upgraded as needed. I don't use those as much as I do iPads.

Also not gonna lie, it's a bit of a factor for me as well. I have an Air 3, so I don't really need an Air 4...

However, my dad could use an iPad (will be getting my Air 3) and given that I'm a teacher who is now teaching remotely, my iPad has become a very important part of my workflow, so having a better model actually is helpful for my work.

That being said, I generally don't upgrade my devices frequently or on a whim. I will likely upgrade by phone this year, but I'm currently using a 3 year old 8 Plus, which pretty much needs to go to my mom as a replacement for her 6s Plus with a busted camera.

I pretty much update each year for phone and watch. iPad is every other year and normally pass the other ones down. Being able to sell my phone and watch for 50% of cost makes it easier to upgrade.

Lol, everyone's pretty happy with their current iPads and don't want to change devices so I no longer have that excuse. ?

The iPad upgrades are more or less planned and is my splurge category. I use it a lot so I don't mind the $3-4 cost per day to buy a new one every year.

I stayed on the iPhone 7 for 4 years. The desktops and laptop, 7-11 years. Don't have an Apple Watch and have no plans to replace the AppleTV 4K. For streaming video, I really don't see any benefits to upgrading that one.

Apple products have value in longevity and that's why they are perfect for resale of hand me downs. Being we're in a Apple forum means we're the first movers on these new shiny products but everyone down the family or resale food chain benefits from our decisions.

I'm really excited to get one, Hopefully Friday is the release/order day.

The wife will be getting my iPad Air 3 when I upgrade to the Air 4, for which she is very lucky as it is a fantastic device!

Considering buying the new iPad Air when it arrives.
I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro 13 that is connected to my OLED TV in the bedroom today via HDMI (1080p @ 120hz). (when I do not use it as a laptop)
Uses a Magic Mouse 2 and Magic keyboard with the Macbook.

Can I use the iPad Air in the same way?
- Can I use the Magic Mouse 2 and Keyboard at the same time on the tablet?
- What resolution do I get on 65 "4K OLED when I connect iPad Air with HDMI?

Looking forward to your answers.

I do not see anyone discussing one potential issue with the new Air. Look at https://www.apple.com/ipad/compare/
Wifi + Cellular version has * mark. And at the bottom of the page there is a footnote:

* Wi-Fi + Cellular model coming later this year. iPad Air (Wi-Fi + Cellular) has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. iPad Air (Wi-Fi + Cellular) is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained.

For me this suggests that cellular model may not be available in October at all :(.

i view this as an “Apple just hasn’t updated the site to reflect current reality” type situation rather than a delay

Yikes, I hadn't seen that...

Personally, I wasn't interested in the cellular version anyway, but that sounds problematic for those who are.

She'd be luckier if she got the Air 4 and you kept the Air 3.

Haha yes she would, but its not like i wont let her use my Air 4. At least she will now get her own personal ipad that she can log into with her apple id and use as she pleases.

I don't know about your wife, but my wife couldn't care less about latest and greatest technology. I tried to get her to let me buy her a new iPad 8 and she said that her 1st gen iPad Air does everything she needs. I could use a dose of her common sense at times!

Agree, I found myself forcing new items on her, I just recently stopped.

Lol, my mom's the same (on iPad Pro 9.7 though).

Mind, even with the Air 1, she probably would've answered the same way. The only reason I was able to convince her to upgrade from the iPad 3 (A5X, 1GB) was because her banking apps have stopped working.

Her iPhone gets replaced more frequently but that's primarily due to battery issues. The iPP 9.7 doesn't last as long now compared to when it was new but it still lasts a darned sight longer than her iPhone.

Talking to myself here too, with this post. I don't understand the impatience and all of the "conspiracy theories." Apple announced the iPad Air 4 will come out in October. It's only October 6. Come on people, chill out. Time goes by quickly. It will be the end of October in a blink of an eye. Enjoy life and the many things we have to make it better, or at least we think it makes it so. Seriously, it will come out when it comes out. Does it really matter if we get it today, or in 30 days? Will it make that big a difference in our quality of life?

Surely you mean ‘Time flies’, right?

I’m not married, so most of my old tech goes to my parents. They would be angry at me for (in their words) wasting my money on them. They’re not techie at all so they don’t even know the difference between one iPhone/iPad or another, as long as it meets their very basic needs. If I tried to give either of them a new device I would have to lie and say it’s one of my old ones or else they would refuse to accept it.

Anything is possible, but this disclaimer does not suggest a later time frame for the Wifi + cellular model. They are simply being clear *right now* that they are not actually advertising for sale a product they legally cannot sell (right now).
