titanium is denser than aluminium...why no titanium case to make the air an air?

I don’t think it will happen that fast. The Air 7 might get ProMotion though. Why not? Air 6 will come in October 2023 (soon) with some minor tweaks, followed up by OLED Pros in spring or autumn 2024, then an OLED Air 7 can follow, half a year or one year after the Pros.
That thought crossed my mind. I do know the titanium fabrication process is quite expensive due to its extremely high melting point. I’d think they’d move the Pros to Ti first. But again, that thought did cross my mind. 😜why no titanium case to make the air an air?
Exactly why I bought the Air 5 last November and I’ve been very happy with it. I could have bought the Pro, but couldn’t justify the added cost for features I didn’t need. This is one way of looking at it. Another is that Airs exist for smarter shoppers, who do not feel like spending extra on features they do not actually need.
Nonsense. Innovation doesn’t work on an assembly line basis. It’s more trial-and-error until something clicks. A lot of the tech we use today is mature in form and function so it’s become largely incremental refinement and upgrade. It’s not an easy thing to devise something that is game changing and totally reinvents how people will do things.Apple has lost its innovation.
I’ve asked this question myself and I think the education market has a lot to do with it. Laminated screens are NOT what this market wants, making repairs to the base models easier and cheaper.Right. So why offer both?
iPad mini 6 handles landscape FT calls just fine, and the camera is not housed in the long side. Could it not work the same on Air: camera housed in short side, Pencil 2 charging on a long side? Real question. Is it that the iPad mini’s smaller physical dimensions makes a side camera, when in landscape, less of an optical issue for users on the other end of a FT call? Otherwise, I’m not sure why the camera placement/functionality could be the same on any iPad as it is on the mini.I don’t think so, because it clashes with Pencil 2 charging. That's why the iPad 10 is still on the Pencil 1 despite having no lightning port to charge it.
Titanium is harder so it can be made much thinner than Aluminium and therefore lighter.Titanium is heavier than the aluminum currently used for iPad. Titanium would not make it lighter.
Agree nothing to do with “air” it simply became the midrange iPad. Still have the air 3 which feels quite cheap because sound is coming only from one side. For the money I paid it is very fine but you will get what you pay for. So next time it will be a Pro for me.But why call it Air? Call it… iPad.
That’s how it currently is?iPad mini 6 handles landscape FT calls just fine, and the camera is not housed in the long side. Could it not work the same on Air: camera housed in short side, Pencil 2 charging on a long side?
From personal experience it’s certainly bad on a 12.9”, and workable, though still not ideal, on a mini. One thing is that you have to look at the camera if you want to be looking like you’re looking at the other person, and that’s less convenient if you have to look at the side frame than at the top.Real question. Is it that the iPad mini’s smaller physical dimensions makes a side camera, when in landscape, less of an optical issue for users on the other end of a FT call?
Stage manager, laminated display, more memory, double the performance cores. With the standard iPad moving to iPad Air design (no bezels), what is now the point of iPad Air?
It’s stronger at the same volume, but i don’t think that’s the case anymore if you make it so much thinner that it weighs significantly less than aluminum. In addition, some aluminum alloys rival titanium in hardness. I don’t know what alloy Apple uses for the iPads. I do remember reading they already use stronger alloys for the Pros.Titanium is harder so it can be made much thinner than Aluminium and therefore lighter.
This Air is just a cheaper striped down 11" Pro...seems to have no reason to exist...what I miss most about Job's Apple is that product lineups were actually full of different products, not just cheaper versions of the top model.
The iPod had the Touch, Classic, Nano and Shuffle - all of which had different feature sets and price points. They played with the Nano almost every year.
Outside of just a mini and then every iPad being the same with just cheaper parts, it would be nice to see iPads of really different sizes, folding, etc...
The Watch should have had just an activity $99 band years ago in addition to the watches. People would eat this up.
The Phone and Mac (although this has it the least at this point) have similar issues.
If you look in the outdoor space it's always titanium for ultra light gadgets and not aluminium. It’s stronger at the same volume, but i don’t think that’s the case anymore if you make it so much thinner that it weighs significantly less than aluminum. In addition, some aluminum alloys rival titanium in hardness. I don’t know what alloy Apple uses for the iPads. I do remember reading they already use stronger alloys for the Pros.
For most of the user is enough, we geek are not a good parameter and btw I’ve a 64GB iPad AirProbably the last year Apple can get away with the offensively low 64GB storage option
This could be a great year to offer 128GB as an entry level storage, that would help differentiating more the M1 and M2 models (there are little differences between M1 and M2 SoC), and that wouldn’t be a problem for the iPad Pro lineup as they will probably start from 256GB next year.Probably the last year Apple can get away with the offensively low 64GB storage option
I think his point was that it would be less confusing is this were just a cheaper option of the iPad Pro. I was actually "reverse surprised" to see that (1) the iPad Air wasn't actually lighter than the Pro, and (2) that it had a full blown M1 chip in it. Basically, I expected a souped up base iPad, not a scaled back Pro. But OTOH, this is the only way we can get cool colors for it.Well you just explained why it exists in the first half of your comment
I'm amazed Apple can still source 64GB flash chips! 😂 For all we know, they use 256GB of flash with the software blocking the upper 75%, similar to what companies do with calculators.Probably the last year Apple can get away with the offensively low 64GB storage option
I don’t think it will happen that fast. The Air 7 might get ProMotion though.
