Yeah, this is one of the problem of the iPad Pro.
Stuff that is native on normal computers, you have to get a monthly / annual subscription to get a basic functionality.
FileBrowser Pro is a one-time buy, Go is subscription.

You are referring to the subscription for the Go-version of 50p per month? ?? Well, buy Basic or Professional. I am seriously flabbergasted that there is someone who thinks that a secure solution to a serious problem isn’t worth 6$ a year. You’re joking, right? ???Yeah, this is one of the problem of the iPad Pro.

I pay over $100 per month on subscriptions already. So don’t need more subscriptions.
On Mac, I can do all of that stuff for free.

FileBrowser GO/Professional to your rescue. ?
Agree with that - that's primarily what I use my 4TB HDD for with my iPad, video streaming directly from it when traveling (stream from NAS at home).
I haven't run into the exFAT corruption problem with any video playback, just on transfers and then only with the Files app (none when using FileBrowser Pro). I use nPlayer for external playback.
He probably has, but majority of his content has been centered around how limited iPadOS is.He has pointed out solutions.
Not really. I don't want to copy full quality 25-80GB 4K UHD and 1080p Blu-ray rips to the iPad. I just want to play them back directly from the external drive so this has to be fixed on the OS level.
Yeah. At home, I just stream from NAS. Before, I used to bring a laptop with Plex on long vacations. Would be nice to be able to skip carrying the laptop.
I only watched like 1-2 minutes of video just to test and the drive was only plugged in for 5 minutes tops. I suspect the issue was iPadOS was still busy indexing the drive and writing all the .DS_Store, etc. when I unplugged it from the iPad.
I think NTFS in read-only might actually work better since I mostly use Windows anyway. Just need to use a test HDD first so there's no risk of corrupting the drive I regularly use for the laptop. Data's on the NAS, too, but copying 3TB+ over 1Gbps is a major pain.
While I second that, Filebrowser or e.g. FileExplorer will replay 1080p from the external media. Not really. I don't want to copy full quality 25-80GB 4K UHD and 1080p Blu-ray rips to the iPad. I just want to play them back directly from the external drive so this has to be fixed on the OS level.

4k UHD and subtitles for sure, the files I have use AAC Audio @48kHz in general, I have no files with the other characteristics you give. With full support for chapters, subtitles and whatever original audio format was used on the (4K UHD) Blu-ray (TrueHD, DTS-HD MA, etc)? I somehow doubt it.
Okay, but for the record, I don’t use either.People are using terminal, console, and shell interchangeably. In everyday conversation, no problem. Here, in the context of this conversation, it’s causing confusion.

But independently: what’s your point? Someone describes a problem (file system corruption), someone else offers a solution, and then something completely unrelated is brought up…
I can easily and fast reencode whatever movie I want to watch it on an iPP. But I don’t have to, because when I encoded my DVDs and Blu-rays I put some thought into what I need and what is sensible for the hardware I actually have and plan to switch to in the near future. Heck, I just checked with VLC… so chapters etc. doesn’t seem to be a problem.
It's just external storage that's the issue. Same as @sparksd I just don't trust iPadOS not to corrupt non-Apple formatted drives. The media playback app used (Infuse, nPlayer, VLC, etc) isn't the issue. The OS itself is.
So far, I have not run into a corruption issue using FileBrowser Pro when doing head-to-head tests with Files and where Files corrupted. However, I have run into the "drive needs repair" issue when then using the media on a Win10 device - though no errors are found on repair, it's clear that a clean closure on removal from the iPad is not occurring; this regardless of me waiting for drive light to signal no activity, putting iPad to sleep, closing out all apps, etc. It's absurd that a modern OS has these kind of issues - this is not rocket science or blue sky technology.
Yeah, the issue I encountered was full filesystem corruption. Drive was showing as not formatted when re-connected to Windows and I had to re-initialize the MBR just to get it to work again. Frankly, while FileBrowser may work with not corrupting actual file copies, I don't think using FileBrowser could've prevented the filesystem corruption upon disconnect.
I've also had an issue with the Files app locking up and crashing both the iPad and the Kindle Paperwhite (FAT32, tens of thousands of small files). Thankfully, the PW proved to be resilient since that was able to recover after a couple of restarts.
I've never once had a file corruption in macOS, iOS, or iPadOS, but I do keep an exact copy of my external drive contents up in iCloud as well just in case. I would cry if my Affinity Designer project files got corrupted.Yeah, the issue I encountered was full filesystem corruption. Jeepers--a reproducible file corruption bug? That's brutal.I can readily repeat the corruption problem using an attached drive formatted as exFAT.

Same here… ?My standard test has been to copy 165 RAW image files (2GB) from the iPad Pro to exFAT storage using the Files app. I usually see about 5% of the files corrupted on the storage. But when doing the same test with FileBrowser Pro, I don't get any corruption. Been this way for over a year now, with multiple iPadOS versions. I no longer use the Files app for anything unless absolutely necessary for internal transfers.
I have been subscribed to File browser go for a couple of years but I didn't use for external storage (only for network files). I have tested it now and no corruption so far. It is no replacement for the file app for local files, but it seems to be a better option for external storage so far.My standard test has been to copy 165 RAW image files (2GB) from the iPad Pro to exFAT storage using the Files app. I usually see about 5% of the files corrupted on the storage. I'm curious... what made you go with the Business version over FileBrowserGo?Not sure about filebrowser go - but Biz links itself into Apple Files locations and you can then copy files without corruption within Apple files.
If I copy them same test set via Apple Files directly I end up with corrupted data. ??
