There is an app called Preview Mini in the App Store. But what functionality are you missing from Preview? iPad opens PDFs and you can use Markup to annotate. With the Pencil you can fill in fields. And if you specifically need more PDF functionality there are apps like PDF Expert.
Preview Mini is just a consolation app. It is not the full app as in the Mac. Yes, an iPad can act as a laptop, but cannot replace it.

It has "Mini" in the title, of course it's not the full app. But tell us, what Preview functionality are you missing on the iPad, that you're insisting isn't possible to do?

I won't as it can't.

You are right. As long as people keep entertaining the annoyances, the annoyances will persist. Ignore them! They will get bored and go looking for attention elsewhere.

Just made a video of the "preview" functionality on the iPad. On the iPad OS (and iOS also), the preview function is called "Quick Look". It may not be as robust as preview, but with Quick Look you can sign and mark up pdf's and photos.

And @Webcat86, that Preview Mini app is an excellent little app. Thanks for sharing that!

I just downloaded the app myself, didn't know it existed. Did you both opt for the In-App Purchase?

And @bondr006, why do you have two FileBrowser apps? I had the Go version... was getting billed annually, deleted that app and went with the Pro version instead (one-time payment).

I am just trying Mini Preview. If I find myself using it enough, I will purchase it. And for File Browser, I used the free version for a long time, and just recently upgraded to the Pro version. I need to transfer files over to the Pro from the free, and have been too lazy to do it.

Nice app. Your video is nice too!
One has to get by with what's out there.

Preview app is one of the best apps, and came free with macOS. :)

That doesn’t always work though. Try it on an avatar here.
Your avatar doesn’t work but one with an actual image does (save to photos). I tried this on my MBA and had the same result i.e. doesn’t work on your avatar but does on one with an image.

Can you elaborate on the need/utility of File Browser compared to the native Files app?

I'll add my 2 cents - I had problems with the Files app corrupting files on copying from exFAT external storage. File Browser worked without an issue. Have had occasional Files lockup/failure on cloud transfers - none on FB. FB shows transfer progress (time to go, percentage). FB Pro has a synch capability with external folders. I use it as my general file manager on my devices.

I don't mind stage manager on my Mac mini with two 27" external monitors. I rarely use Stage Manager on my M1 12.9" iPad Pro. I think on the iPad's relatively small screen and Stage Manager just don't work well. Oddly when using Stage Manager on my M1 12.9" iPad Pro the dominant window won't allow me to take advantage of the empty space on the right side of the screen, or expand the bottom edge to the outer bottom edge of the screen.

What am I missing here, Is there away to take advantage of any empty screen space for an open window and still use Stage Manager???
In Stage Manager, you cannot go all the way to the screen edge with a window without going into Full-Screen mode with one app. There will always be that little strip of unused space.

and when you open a PDF in Apple Files you can rearrange, delete, copy, paste/add pages in it. This is something other file manager don‘t do for the moment on iOS/iPadOS (otherwise FE File Explorer or FileBrowser run circles around Apple‘s Files).

I’m not sure I understand you. When you open a PDF in Apple Files, it opens in Preview, right? Preview Mini lets you do the things you just mentioned on iPadOS. But that’s Preview, not Files/Finder

The PreviewMini app you mention is the one from Marian Koenig? Is it worth it having iPadOS? It’s just 9,99 the pro version, I could get it if it really adds to the iPadOS stock tools…

Yes it’s that one. Whether it’s worth it is up to you — will it fill a need that you have?

iPadOS -> Apple Files -> open a PDF in it -> open the thumbnail side view -> use your finger/pencil to select&rearrange, copy, paste pages. No other apps are involved or needed.

Go “all in“ -> open 2 Apple Files instances in Split View -> open 2 PDFs -> drag&drop pages between both, rearrange, paste, annotate….

I misunderstood you at first, I thought you were saying Mac lets you do that but iPad doesn’t
