Most of the videos I have seen on YT about the new M4 have done a real disservice to the iPad, in my opinion, because the videos have been framed as a laptop replacement test. The YouTubers are doing it to get revenue and unfortunately, a lot of people will disregard the iPad as a very simple video player, when there is so much more it can do. I think the new iPad can be the main device for many, many people, even on MR.

Agree on this, YouTube reviews are very often terrible. The reviewers want to get their videos out first so they do superficial ones and don’t make any effort to see what’s capable. Some do, but they’re the exception.

It’s the same thing with the durability videos. Why are we seeing people take a naked iPad and intentionally break it? It’s irrelevant to everyday use and there is no meaningful conversion from “full strength grip trying to bend a naked iPad” to “accidentally sat on my iPad while it’s in a case.”

This guy at 9to5Mac (Fernando Silva) is my favorite iPad Pro Youtuber. Used to have his own YouTube channel, but is with 9to5Mac now. Give him a try. I think you may like him.

He is one of the exceptions. I have seen several of his videos and for being a big Apple fan, he does try to be fair and balanced, instead of the typical all is roses with everything released.

I don't find this at all - that entire web site is run by hard core Apples fans (which is fine), but unbiased is definitely not their strong suit.

Nothing wrong with being a fan of the devices you like to use. The world is full of them. Fernando is enthusiastic for sure, but is also very honest, fair, and balanced. He will call out Apple when he see's a need for it, and I have seen him do just that many times.

I can’t stand the same thumbnails over and over again. Like he is full of himself. I only watch the videos when I don’t see him in de thumbnail. I know.. its a me problem.

I personally stay away from those durability videos; those are click baits!

But for the most part... I like watching DailyTekk channel, Chris does well when it comes to showing what the iPad is capable of. And Christopher Lawley is a go-to source for iPad-focused content as well. And @bondr006 mentions a good one, I liked when Fernando had his own channel.

He did better when it came to tutorials and stuff, I think now with a bigger audience... it's just not the same anymore. And I can't really decide on why exactly.

This gent is excellent. He mainly does tips and tutorials. In less than 6 months, he has gone from about 56K followers to over 356K. No hype, no fancy camera angles showing unnecessary Apple bling products to show off.

Yep those are some exceptions, I’m a big fan of Lawley too

I find the tips and tutorial videos to be useful at time. I skip the review videos as I really don't care what their opinion on the device is - I'll make my own judgement for myself.

Yeah, I came across his channel before... I believed I watched his iPadOS 18 video.

I like it when reviewers take their thoughts away from the video (be critical of the device, but not overcritical of it) ... not to say I don't care for any kind of personality but showcase the tips and any new tutorials. That's it.

I will no longer be using my iPad as a laptop replacement after getting my S9 Ultra. The experience and functionality is night and day. I can't believe I wasted this much time with the iPad when a far better experience has always been on the other side. I guess better late than never but boy I have been missing out all this time. S9 Ultra has a perfect file management system and can easily replace my laptop. Full mouse support on Android, I will never use a mouse on any iPad again.

I'm happy I returned my S9 Ultra.

Considering you have been posting relentlessly about the same subject for what seems like an eternity, with a misguided hope you could convince others that your purchase would persuade others (or more likely - convince yourself), we can only hope that you will now leave the iPad forum and frequent the S9 forum.

I totally agree with you. 👍🏻. I moved to an iPad Pro as my primary computer a few years ago, and I haven’t looked back since. I do still have a Mac Mini, but don’t really need it for my workflow, just is more a nice-to-have thing to stay current on macOS and to save local backups of my iPad to when I’m testing betas on my iPad. 👍🏻

I second this, I really appreciate his approach. He’s definitely my favorite YouTube iPad reviewer. He tends to be very fair and balanced, and also careful to not overstate his position in either direction. He’s able to strike a really good balance. 👍🏻
